GM's thread about nothing (72 Viewers)

Then I told his mom and step-mom how it went in an email. I didn't know it, but my ex-wife has turned into a Jenny McCarthy disciple and was furious at me for permitting the HPV vaccine. I even got an ALL CAPS EMAIL RESPONSE!!!!1111 I honestly had no idea she had any reservations about this and apologized for not consulting her, but damn....this vaccine is supposed to cut down on teh sex diseases. Not sure why she'd be against that, but apparently, the tin-foil hat is strong in this one.
Oof. Sorry to hear about this, GB.
Really came out of left field. She was never like this when we were married. Both boys were vaccinated on schedule and she works in the medical field. But we hashed it out. Taking the high road with her by apologizing for not consulting her diffused the situation. I just had no idea that she was against this one. Can't wait for Cooper's next check-up...

Kellen had a check-up this morning at 7:10am, so we left the house early, slogged through the rainy traffic and got to the doctor on time. We're very fortunate in that all of our kids have been incredibly healthy so he hasn't been to his doctor in quite some time. The doctor ran through all the normal stuff...eyes, ears, reflexes, turn your head and cough. They drew blood to check his cholesterol which I was a little surprised by, but it runs in our family, so I was good with it. What I was more surprised by was the vaccinations he received today. One was a booster for Tetnas (sp?) and the other was a vaccination for HPV....you know, the disease that affects 98% of sexually active tickle monsters who like to stick their junk in diseased cavities. Gay or not, I figured what the hell...let's protect this kid's cervix.

So he got the shots, got the blood drawn and when it was all over, I patted him on the head and told him the great news - since it was still early, he would be on time for school! His reaction was priceless. Then I told him we should go out to breakfast and be late for school and his face lit up like a Vegas casino. Went to one of my favorite breakfast spots downtown, put our phones away and had a nice, leisurely breakfast. He was still only a few minutes late to school, but it was good getting a 1-on-1 with him.

Late-Onset Autism
Should I encourage card counting?

More likely to be on your bingo card: psychics or people who don't vaccinate?

One of my friends just named his baby "Foley". Gender: girl. Wouldn't have known.
The good news is that she brings her own sound effects wherever she goes.
:groan:

Anti-vaxxers are higher on my list. As much as I deplore psychics they're probably not going to be responsible for some stupid kid giving me some Oregon Trail disease someday.

THE HPV SHOT WAS THE ONE SHOT I TOLD YOU I DID NOT WANT HIM TO GET. It is a new drug that was rushed through the FDA process.

She's overreacting

Sorry for asking, but why does a 10 year old need a shot for something spread through sexual contact? (Not directed at you GM, but rather at the physician)

Oh.

Well she's still got the big bewbs going for her, right?

Since working at UT, I've gotten the bug to go back to school. I've been trying to think through the kinds of programs that would 1.) interest me, and 2.) allow me to be marketable. Considered a few programs at UT, but now I'm thinking about giving this place a try.

Shtick?

(and isn't the age of consent in Switzerland or whatever like 8 years old?)
:lmao:

No, was actually an honest question... then again, puberty can hit at 10 I guess.

more important for the girls, since the virus that causes HPV can cause cervical cancer. the vaccine has to be given before the first contact with the virus.

there's no real reason to wait, and a significant downside to waiting too long.

THERE'S A VACCINATION FOR HPV?!?!?!?!?!?!?

COULD'VE USED THAT ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!
:bag: I think I must've confused this with that other decease that results in cervical cancer (or is it the same)?

ETA: Should have read up...

Nah. I get what you're saying. I think maybe GM's doctor noticed that he doesn't bring in his kids on a regular basis so he figured he give the boy the shot since he might not see him until he's in college.

Gotcha... and I agree btw, I'm all for vaccinations, just didn't realize it was something both sexes needed.

at first they didn't really strongly encourage the vaccination for boys, but I guess the idea is that you lower the risk if you can lower the number of carriers.

makes sense... and GM kid might experiment with the ladies against all odds...

How long does it take to get vaccinated, apparently I have some time to kill while I'll wait for YSR/GM to make their Scrabble moves.

Exactly. If he decides to go straight all of a sudden, he's protected from the disease. And if he IS gay, well...no danger of disease there, so win/win.

Pretty sure the Doctor suspects something:

The vaccine is also recommended for gay and bisexual men (or any man who has sex with a man).

Somebody had to explain How I Met Your Mother to me the other day. I had no idea it was narrated by a baby who is reliving his dad's single life to see if he can pick out his mother from all the broads his dad is banging. That doesn't sound too bad.

Gotta be better than that True Detective crapfest.
DirecTV has a free HBO preview coming up this weekend. I'm hoping to DVR all the True Detectives if it will let me. Free Cinemax too. Which reminds me, I need to get paper towels from Rite Aid.

Not until I get my HPV vaccination it's not.

1. Surprised you don't take them in for an annual check up.

2. Cool about breakfast. I know where you are coming from just spending 3 days with the boys alone. Thusly I've adjusted my Divorce-O-Meter 3000® from "awesome" to "super-duper-awesome".

3. I hope Jenny McCarthy and that doctor that faked all of those "results" gets polio. I seriously hate them.

I murdered that bug a long, long, time ago.

Paper towels? Why don't you just use sandpaper while you are at it.

Puffs plus with lotion down?

His doctor (who just retired) told us after the age of 5-6, it wasn't really necessary to go in every year. That said, I think we probably waited a little longer than is recommended. :oldunsure:

HOLD THE PHONE:

In my 19 years in education this is a first. Today a boy student turned something into the office that he claimed he found on the ground.

It was a fully operational vibrator. The jelly kind with the extra doo-hicky to tickle the man in the boat. This kid is semi-special and comes from a rather screwball household. There's a 75% chance he brought it from home. :lmao:

So in this case, what happens to the, uh, evidence? Will it be used in a faculty White Elephant exchange or will the principal just take it home to his wife?

I've been known to use a paper towel. You got a ##### between your legs?

:lmao: Our counselor has it double-wrapped in paper towels in a cupboard in her office.

What's funny is that my old principal would actually give out contraband items that had been confiscated throughout the year at our last staff meeting (I got 3 'used' Playboys one year). I'm going to say that this "toy"isn't going to be handed out.

That poor mom or possibly dad.
:lmao: Like I said this kid comes from a fairly dysfunctional household. I don't know the whole story but I did meet with his dad once. Not sure what he does for a living but I would guess "apprentice tow-truck driver". At the beginning of the year I had a real problem with this kid losing papers/not returning stuff. His excuse was always that one of his brothers had taken his backpack and 'tore up stuff'. I thought the kid was making all of this up but his Special Ed teacher confirmed it.

Why are you not porning it forward with the rest of us?

I can't relate to this at all.
