GM's thread about nothing (81 Viewers)

On the 4th of July the Mrs. and I are driving up to Mohegan Sun to stay for the night, leaving the kids with the in-laws. First night away just the two of us in nearly a year. Can't wait. Setting aside boatloads of cash to bring up. Gonna eat, drink and gamble like a degenerate.

:hifive:
I like this plan, but you should probably interact with your wife at some point, :lmao:
Back in the hotel room :hifive:

She actually digs sitting at the blackjack table and drinking and listening to Otis talk #### to the dealer and pit boss.

:banned:

Currently finishing up all the beer in the new place...glad I had one accidental in there, because the 18-pack fell just short of perfection.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the tail end of an awesome thunderstorm and just had Neko Case followed up by Margot Timmins of Cowboy Junkies on the random music selections. Seriously, I could listen to either of them sing their grocery lists and be completely mesmerized.

Also, I'm quite drunk and have no furniture yet. Currently typing this while sitting on the edge of my bed and using a couple of beer boxes as my nightstand/desk/coffee table. Good times!
May I suggest Lone Justice era Maria McKee...maybe Dixie Storms for your evening.
Love Maria McKee, discovered thanks to the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, but will have to check out the Dixie Storms.

Grazie!

Btw, if any of you other turdbags have some female singer/songwriters or ######lly fronted bands that you'd like to share, I'm always interested.
Ditty Bops

also Jolie Holland

Beerhole needs more Shuke, Homer, GM, Uni and many others. Got spoiled by Coshole.
I want to really badly. I just don't think it would be right with the way my wife is doing.

We finally broke down and hired a sitter to come over about 20-25 hours a week during the summer.
This is so clutch, brother. Mrs. O was completely losing her #### with my daughters and just had no help (and I was working and traveling a bunch). We got on SitterCity and found this amazing girl, she comes over M-W-F for full days as of right now. Allows my wife to actually get things done around the house, get out and do things for herself now and then, or just take out the 3yo to the town pool or something while leaving the baby at home, etc. Totally more civilized life and she's been like a new person the past couple weeks. Hopefully you're having the same experience.

At some point Mrs. O wants to cut back from 3 days, because she feels like a real princess being a stay at home mom and having help those days, but I've told her I don't care what it costs, if it brings sanity to our house, it's worth every penny.

This is actually just as much for me as it is for her. I just can't do everything. I'm sure there are single moms out there that would roll their eyes at that, but coming home with my wife on the couch with her head covered in ice packs, the kids out of control, a pile of dishes in the sink, and looking at having to cook/clean and get the kids to be was doing a number on me.

I am taking the Bolt Bus to your beautiful city on Friday, arriving around 7pm. I'm staying with my buddy in Greenlake Fri-Sat nights, leaving back for Portland Sunday evening. Plenty of time to hole some corn. My buddy and I will be going to Emerald Downs on Saturday and I would love to have anybody who is interested join us for a day of racing. I know Auburn is a hike, but having been numerous times, I really enjoy the track, the views, the cold beers, the horses and making boatloads.

I'm also up for anything you guys are up for...bar hopping, dinner, you name it. Just tell me where to be and when and the Pale Ghost will be there.

Cheers,
GM

I'm roughly 58 minutes away from Mohegan. Might be worth the drive to go down there and scan the blackjack tables for a guy with big hands and then sit down next to him and make random GMTAN references.

When/how are we meeting on Saturday? Or should we just do like those folks at the Chicago cornhole did and not exchange any info and just hope we run into and recognize one another?

We are definitely in for this and as previously mentioned Redmond Longhorn and hot wife are tentative. Roverfish was in, too. 'ninja could meet us after if we go somewhere, I think.

We're also available-ish on Friday.

First race at Emerald Downs is 2pm. I'll be outside near the finish line with a racing form, beer and perhaps a visor. Just look for the dooooooosh bag. We will probably get down there around 1ish to settle in. I have K4 and Redmond's phone numbers, so good there. To the extent horse racing isn't in the cards for some of you, we can meet up for dinner or drinks later anywhere you guys want to go.

K4 - I'll text you Friday and let you know where we are going that night. I can also post here so everybody can read the plan. The Bolt Bus has WiFi and I'm hoping a pretty lenient policy on drinking furtive mixed drinks out of a thermos.

I'll go to the track Saturday with Roverkid. K4 had my number..don't know if she still does.

Yep, I have it.

GM, sounds great to me. I don't yet have an ETA on our arrival Saturday; will depend upon which hike we do that morning, but I'll choose a quicker and/or closer one so we aren't getting there late. Definitely let me know where you go Friday, too. 'ninja has to work until 5 on Saturday somewhere far from the track, so meeting him for dinner or something later is probably best for him.

I bet Roverkid cashes some tickets on Saturday.
The kid's at horse camp all week this week.

I give her $20 to bet. She goes to the paddock, looks over the horses, and bets based on how they look. So far in two trips to the track she's up $85.
Good enough for me. I'll shadow her picks.
One of roverkid's biggest complaints with the ex-girlfriend: we went to the track last year and it was uncomfortably hot. we stayed 7 races and the ex wanted to leave. in roverkid's world, leaving the track early is worse than genocide.

I can't wait until she's old enough for Vegas.

I will not leave early but will likely be going to shady areas sometimes to protect my translucent skin.

You and me both, my pale sister from another mister.
