GM's thread about nothing (60 Viewers)

Technically it was just the herp, not full blown AIDS.

I both put my current house on the market and put an offer on a new house that costs almost twice as much today.

Did Gekko delete all his posts from the True Detective thread? I'm three episodes in and wanted to read his insanity but other than a partial quote of a deleted post he has no presence in there so far.

krista will be so proud. About the real estate wheeling and dealing, not the herp thing.

Poor Guster. Went from having this awesome road trip with Thorn and Rude planned to pretty much flying solo from Cincinnati to Beerhole. :(
wait, what?
there's an outing called beerhole. it will take place in Milwaukee over an upcoming weekend. Guster lives in Cincinnati. Thorn was going to fly to Cincinnati and they were going to drive together to Milwaukee, while also picking me up along the way.

Then I changed my plans to join SLB on the train and Thorn booked a direct flight to Milwaukee. Now Guster has nobody to drive with unless Shuke feels comfortable leaving his wife with the babysitter.
I almost have to go now. What are the dates again?

So I might be out of a job soon.

They are restructuring my division and making it a Center of Technology. The 3 year long project I've been working in has been shut down, as have all new projects.

We are now considered a Global Resource for Technology.

Sure it sounds great on the surface, but I'm a CAD Designer, not Software, Hardware, or Communications.

:kicksrock:
Sucks, man. Are you hired on a contract basis by project? I'm really confused about Center vs. Global Resource.

OK, I know in a thread full of guys I might not get much help, but YSR is here and some of you are good at planning events and such...

Last July, my mom turned 70 and also had her 25th anniversary with my stepfather. I planned to take them on a big trip (safari or such), but then with the getting rid of all my possessions and moving to a third-world country it didn't happen. After throwing out a bunch of ideas this year, my mom told me they'd really rather come out to WA/OR to visit because she has visited all other states but those and Alaska. I've bought them first-class airfare, set up great places to go and cool places to stay, have someone with an "in" at a bunch of wineries who has set us up with private tastings, planned a hi-falutin' bday dinner, etc. They don't really know about any of this other than the flights.

Their trip out here spans not only her birthday but their anniversary, and Mr. krista had the idea of cooking them a crazy "Big Night"-type dinner (Big Night the movie) of a squillion courses. As we planned the menu, it expanded into something where we* are going to make each course have some connection to events or people in their lives, but with the courses "gussied up" a bit. For instance, my mom's mom was known for her chicken & dumplings, which will now be "duck & dumplings" with seared duck rillons, sweet potato gnocchi and roasted duck veloute. I'm going to pair each course with a wine/port or cocktail.

tl;dr Here's my question: what else can we do to make the night crazy-special? We are not planning to eat with them but just to serve. We are going to make a playlist of all their favorite music and have that going. I'm going to get a printer to do some fancy menus. Obviously flowers, tablecloths, candles, condoms.** What else could we do?

*"We" will cook in that I will be in charge of the one dish that will remain unchanged: my grandma's strawberry cake.

**One of these is not serious.
Sounds like a very you way to celebrate. Are you like her mom? What are her favorite things?

I like echoing what her mom made her growing up... What's the need to fancy up chicken & dumplings with duck?
Duck has a special meaning, too, but I did wonder about doing something a bit closer to "traditional" for that. Definitely doing more of my mom's favorite stuff than my stepfather's, since I don't know his favorites as well. I'm trying to work his in as much as possible, though, including that I know his favorite record is Billy Bragg/Wilco's Mermaid Avenue. :)

Just wondering, I don't recall if this has been brought up or not, but has your wife seen a chiropractor? I just heard today they can do wonders for people with migraines.
She hasn't for years. I guess it would be worth a shot, but I'm pretty skeptical about them.

She's actually going in for cervical MRI tomorrow.

Complete Matlock series on Blu ray, imo
Bought them the entire series of The Wire recently. True story. My mom's pretty cool.
25 varieties of weed.
This thread has been around a long time and I feel like I've told this story, but for the benefit of the Henry Fords of the world:

When I was in junior high we had a plant in our kitchen that looked kind of like weed--had five leaves I think--but it was some Latin name. Somehow this came up when I was in college having dinner with my mom and friend Jane, and I couldn't remember what it was called, so asked my mom to remind me. "Krista, it was pot. I just made that up so you wouldn't tell your grandmother what it was."

Tomorrow's fun at work: trying out a reiki treatment (healing touch new agey stuff) and then hitting a bar with friends to watch the US match. Pretty sure I'll instantly undo any benefits from reiki, but it can't hurt things

Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key makes me happy every time I hear it.

GM, Facebooked with Redmond Longhorn tonight and let him know that you'd be in touch, or he might be in touch with you, re when/where you'll be Saturday (gave him the estimates). Not sure when we'll arrive due to hiking/showering but will be no later than 2.

We're going to a soiree on Friday (really, that's what the text invite said) and might be ready for some heavy drinking afterward, so let me know where you guys go.

also stabbed myself with a fork trying to make a baked potato the other night. :bag:
:lmao:

What is a fork used for in the "making" of a baked potato?
Poking holes?
Which does what?
Makes the potato bake better.
Bull####.
yawn
Not buying it. I learned you were supposed to poke, but I haven't done it for years. Urban legend.

When did you move to Virginia?

Man, you know things are slow in the GMTAN when Homer and I are talking legal nuances in the Supreme Court decision thread.

I watched True Detective today. The whole thing.

And two movies. Out of the Furnace and Blue Ruin. Both get a

Never got out of bed except to pick up pizza and smokes. Toughest part of the day was that I kept having to sit up and burp all the time. Heartburn sucks.

Not even to pee????

Update that only a couple of you care about:

Mr krista's GB Brandon initially entered 4 events at the WSOP. After winning one and getting second in another, he entered a fifth event and took third.

He was then convinced to enter the $50,000 Players Championship. Top prize over $1.5 million.

Eight players left and guess who has the chip lead? :pickle:

All sweat welcomed.

This is insane. Is he sacrificing cigars, rum and chickens to Jobu or something? Seems like an unpossible stretch

:lmao: it's 1:30 on a Wednesday night. How's that west coast time treating you?
:lmao: Great.

Re Brandon, it really is a crazy stretch. Could win Player of the Year.
All my friends can't believe that my friends's husband's friend is doing so well. Keep the updates coming

If I recall, he's pretty new to the circuit? Maybe he has some super smart new strategy that is way more effective than the usual approaches. Hard to believe it's just the cards he's getting
