GM's thread about nothing (18 Viewers)

Are we searching trunks without consent/warrants now? Also, was the pill bottle just loosely in the trunk, or did he go through a bag or something to find them?

You soccer fans are a feisty bunch...yeesh
You're pretty troll-y in there. I'm not sure what you were expecting.

I like that one guy who doesn't like soccer who started the thread with pictures of hot soccer broads.
Trollings usually not my thing but that escalated so quickly I felt I had to keep going. I can see where it would be fun from time to time though
People are probably a little more amped up during a game to begin with so not surprising.

I'm definitely a seasonal soccer fan; it's always been a bit like curling, luge and ski jumping.

This has been an amazing WC, though. Unreal how many late goals there have been.

So long as the stop is legal and there is probable cause (here, "smelling marijuana smoke"), police can search your entire car including locked areas like trunks and glove compartments. Apologies to Jay-Z.

There is a new case that supposedly says that a warrant is needed to get information out of a cell phone, though I haven't read it.

Not sure if I saw it posted here or somewhere else, but a few years ago I recall seeing an article written by a law student or some such that went line by line through that Jay-Z song and pointed out all the incorrect legalities in the lyrics. Was kind of interesting.

I'm just surprised at how easy it is to get PC and the citizen basically has no recourse. So the "I don't answer questions" guy... Had the cop said he smelled marijuana he could have forcibly removed him from the car just to mess with him?

For some reason I thought if an officer suspected marijuana odor they still had to get a drug dog to come and confirm it. And even that seems kind of shady.

Smelling marijuana is "evidence of a crime," so probably yes.

'Murica!

That's a relatively recent change right? I'm also not sure how marijuana smoke gives pc for an area out of reach like the trunk. I'm not questioning your knowledge of the law. Just how it seems to be being applied.

Had to put Junior the Cat down today. He had acute kidney failure. Only had him here for about 6 weeks. Mata's had him for over a decade and she's wrecked over it. Doc - pretty, Taylor Swiftish-looking - was pretty blunt about his chances.

TWP to roboto & Sac & everyone else.
Sorry man.

Perhaps posting pics of the doc would make you feel better?

Also, how's your mom doing?

Didn't think to take a pic.

My mom is doing ok, thanks. Gonna finalize Dad's obit tomorrow morning.
Nice obit, GB. You write that up? 52 years - going to be hard for your mom, especially this year.

Funerals and grief are brutal, but hoping you are finding ways to recall the fond memories. Hang in there, pard.

"A friend was smoking it yesterday when I was in Colorado. I've been driving all night and haven't showered. Being in the presence of someone legally smoking it isn't against the law. Is not showering? 'Cause something smells like fried dough and powdered sugar, so it seems like you might need to write yourself a ticket for that one, too."

Coworker wants to order from a local BBQ restaurant for lunch. The place has a bad reputation for service and apparently their owner is cracked out, rude, etc.

I took a look at their Facebook page to see their menu and/or daily specials, and now I'm probably going to spend the rest of the day looking at her posts. Did I miss a memo on effective forms of social media? What business model is this? bentley?

Stumbled into the Hobby Lobby thread briefly. I need a hug.
What a ####show. BTW, K4 had the most awesome FB post on this yesterday:

Sigh. I understand if you don't wish to read the Hobby Lobby opinions (majority and dissenting) in their entirety. Boring, right? But if you haven't read them and/or don't understand what they say, then please stop posting about it. Here's a little quiz to see if you should be posting:

Question 1: Was the majority opinion based on First Amendment religious freedom grounds? If your answer was "yes", then stop posting.

Question 2: Does Hobby Lobby's insurance cover birth control for its employees? If your answer was "no", then stop posting.

Thank you.

My cousin got pulled over in WV not long after they had stopped at a doughnut place for the kids. There's literally a box of doughnuts sitting in the back seat of the car, my cousin is trying to be all respectful and answering, "Yes, sir" and "No, sir", and his wife is sitting in the passenger seat going, "Bribe him with a doughnut. Kids, give me that jelly frosted one that we got."

Who is MC Gas Money and are we genuinely entertained by his sketches?
I think he was outed in the thread but I forget who it was. Marginally entertaining, I'm just monitoring for the inevitable conniption when he tweaks the wrong FBG, and subsequent deletions/timeouts. I don't slow down to watch accidents on the highway, but this should become more fun shortly.

My mom wrote it, but thanks - I gave her a few pointers, but it was basically all her. No funeral, viewing, etc... Dad didn't want it.

I talked to my mother this morning and she said "I don't have to be anywhere today". I asked if she was ok with that and she said she was. I suspect there will be days when it ####s with her, but I don't think today is one of them..

My uncle lost his wife a little over two years ago, and yesterday would have been their 59th anniversary. He took himself out golfing and went to have dinner by himself at their favorite restaurant. I know he misses her everyday but he keeps himself busy. He has eleven grand kids (one in high school where he lives), so I give him credit for finding reasons. I listen to Natalie Merchant's Beloved Wife and honestly don't know how people do it, but they do.

Thinking of you, bro. Be there for your mom. Just be there, she needs that.

Apparently some idiot who has been run off under a few other usernames. I don't recognize any of them, which probably tells you how much attention I pay to the rest of the FFA these days. He's got more artstic ability than I'll ever have. I'll give him that. But that's also a bar you could step over. Kinda like saying krista has better pigment than GM.

I don't really get the attraction.

Thanks, my friend.I've never asked my parents about it, but mathematics show I was a shotgun baby. They got married in October and I was born in April. No wedding pics anywhere I know of.

That's some beautiful and noble commitment there.

I was the youngest of four, and born the year the pill came out. At some prepubescent moment I had an epiphany that probably was not a coincidence.

Mostly venting because this infuriates me, but I know we have a lot of lawyers in here so if anyone has advice I'll pass it along..

My little sister got arrested over the weekend. She was driving from Houston back to Dallas after visiting family. Got pulled over by a state trooper in a small town around 5PM in broad daylight. Cop said he pulled her over because she didn't have a front license plate. Then he told her that he smelled marijuana and had probable cause to search her car. She told me she tried weed once a decade ago and hasn't smoked it since. She is not the drug taking type. He had her get out and placed her in handcuffs. She said he went through every little nook and cranny of her car, attempting to locate any fake doors or hiding spots. After coming up empty he searched the trunk, and found a bottle of anti-depressant medicine prescribed to my mom. Arrested, booked, spent all evening in jail and got out late at night.

She said from the very beginning of the encounter that the cop had an attitude and was being extremely rude. To me it's just insane that a cop has the authority to stop a car for such a BS reason, make up a complete lie about smelling marijuana, and then spend so much time completely searching an innocent person's vehicle. Apparently the charge is worse than a DWI. Surely that won't stick though, right? I mean good grief she had a bottle of anti-depressant pills prescribed to another family member in a bag in the trunk, it's not like it was Xanax or Hydro-codeine or anything nefarious.

The more I think about it the angrier I get.
That ####### sucks. I guess one good thing about living in a serious crime area is the cops don't care about stuff like this. Hell, weed is decriminalized in St. Louis. I think it's a $50-$75 fine or something if you get busted for being an #######. I hope everything works out GB.

so the girl usually walks to work every morning, but was tired today and she's on my way to work, so I picked her up (w/ a latte from Starbucks) and dropped her off to save her some time.

i just went out to lunch with a friend and she happened to go to the same place with one of her coworkers.

i'm picking her up from work at 3:30 today for a "doctor's appointment" that happens to be at the local soccer bar, where her friends will be holding down a table for us.

fun day with lots of little bits of unexpected fun extra time with her

My cousin was a Green Beret, pretty fresh out of the service. iirc, the cop let him off with a warning, without the need for a bribe. I'll always remember that story fondly, though. His wife was this little quiet thing, and it always cracked me up envisioning her sitting there going, "Bribe him with a doughnut! Bribe him with a doughtnut!"
