GM's thread about nothing (66 Viewers)

Tomorrow and Friday we're having the accent wall in the master bath and WC painted plus the extra room and bath painted. I suggested to Mrs. SLB that she go downstairs to see what paint we had left from phase 2 of the job since there was plenty of it. She objected to this and started going through the paint swatch cards. She selected three colors for the four different area. Two of the "new" colors she choose are what we used in other areas already and we have almost a gallon of each.

It's nice to know that she's genetically a woman.

She picked out two very different colors for the bed and bath upstairs and asked if I liked them. I reply, "yes, those colors will look good together and will flow with the rest of the house, go with that". Her response, "No, I don't know now....." So in lieu of punching her upside the head I told her I didn't give a #### what colors she picked.

Put a price tag on the old cans, walk out the garage, carry them in through the front door and proudly give her the new cans of paint.

Oh I'm not doing any painting and I'm certainly not mentioning this.

Bob, get me your phone # so we can meet up on Friday. If you guys arrive in Chicago on time, let me know if you want to get some food before the train leaves for Milwaukee. Or I can grab some sandwiches or something to eat on the train too.

Pismo Beach is pretty much "Bakersfield West". What do you want to know?
That's not a really selling point I'm afraid.

But I hate beaches thick with posers and so crowed you can't walk around without kicking over someone's ice chest. I also like piers. I was thinking Santa Monica, but with Venice Beach and the proximity to LA, I'm afraid I would not like it sop much, so was trying to find somewhere I could get an affordable room (150 or less?) with a balcony view of the ocean and some decent bars in walking distance. Looks like pismo is more in the 225 range for the most part.

I expect a white trash contingent at any beach, but as long as the meth is kept to a minimum and no one steals my beer when I go for a swim, I'm cool.
Manhattan Beach?
Have you stayed there?

I think I've figured out a way to keep Albert Oaks. I could carve out three or four vacant lots from the property and sell them. Realtor tells me they'd be worth 250K each. If I could raise 500K I could last here indefinitely and keep my folks in place as long as they stay alive. Anyone want a lot in Austin? I'd give GMTANNERs a big discount and provide a couple weeks a year free lodging at the Oaks until you could build your own pad.How cool would it be for us to have our own neighborhood?
What could I get for $5,000? I don't need much. Broom closet? Chicken coop? Heard it's vacant.
You could crash on the stoner poodles' couch.
We could probably figure an "Option" in that price range. 1% there!!1111

Define 'stay' :oldunsure:

Maybe I should just drive over to vegas. Looks like rooms are dirt cheap for the two nights i want- $22 for Sam's and 95 for Aria. I'd have hundreds of dollars to gamble with from the money I saved on a room.

Havent been to Vegas in a while. What are best hotels nowadays?

How far from the valley? 4.5 hours or so? What about coming back to LAX Thursday around 6:30- pretty sucky traffic then I bet.

Mrs SLB is getting new cans?
She has mentioned that she would like a lift or something.

You have anything againsy Honeycrisp apples, GM?
Too expensive, but very tasty. More of a Pink Lady guy myself.
Absent Honeycrisps, I bought some of these the other night.

They're also apparently called "Crips Pink Apples."

I got home and threw them in the crisper with some Blood Oranges.

When I came down the next morning, it was like a giant fruit salad in there. :poursa40:

Can't you just put the existing paint in your car and tell her you just bought it? I mean, it worked for the jewelery.

"I took PTO all of the week of July 14, 2014 as well as Monday, July 21. Patty and Eric have graciously covered my deals while I am gone next week, and all the TDs with whom I'm working were also aware of my impending absence. I was available by phone or email in case of an emergency next week."

Hit send?

I didn't see the background to this but I agree with you.

We now have two offers on our house, both above the asking price. One is an investor. The other is a family that we kinda sorta know second hand. Investor has offered $2500 more but I'm pretty sure that we are selling to the family. Such sentimental suckers.

Anyone have food recs for Denver? Nothing fancy, just good food. Burgers, Mexican, Chinese, Pizza, Prime Rib, etc. I'll PM Drifter when I am not on my phone.

Liked Prohibition on Colfax when I was out there a few weeks ago. Also went to Thirsty Lion (small regional chain) in LoDo near Union Station and the Oxford Hotel.

It was a Phil from the Future joke. :kicksrock:

(Unless they're both offering cash, I'd probably go with the investor not because of more money but because of more certainty of closing.)

Could easily argue the other way. The family is probably much more emotionally invested in the home. If there is an issue and Bentley doesn't want to fix it, they probably will just do it themselves since they really love the home. An investor may just say #### it and move to the next property.

This is exactly what our realtor told us. Better chance of the family closing.
