China blocks quite a bit of the web for their people, iirc.Sometimes I post stuff in here because I'm adverse to starting a completely new thread.....
with that being said, I was thinking last night and, is there a way for a country, government entity, single person, to turn off the internet? I mean, like a light switch and poof it's off for everyone? And if someone, something has that power, would that pretty much throw the entire earth into chaos just about instantly?
There's a light switch next to Al Gore's bed...Sometimes I post stuff in here because I'm adverse to starting a completely new thread.....

yes to country, government entity, doubtful on person... it's not quite a light switch, but it may seem that way for many...Sometimes I post stuff in here because I'm adverse to starting a completely new thread.....

Probably causes a market crash and unrest at the very least. Assuming it's out for a good period of time. Power outage too?yes to country, government entity, doubtful on person... it's not quite a light switch, but it may seem that way for many...Sometimes I post stuff in here because I'm adverse to starting a completely new thread.....

I don't know about chaos, but it would cause issues for sure, just imagine how much less time people would spend in the bathroom. Productivity would spike in every company.
People can trade when the internet is down? :gasp:Probably causes a market crash and unrest at the very least. Assuming it's out for a good period of time. It will cause a lot of issues, yes.Probably causes a market crash and unrest at the very least. Assuming it's out for a good period of time. Could be a jackpot for someone with their days free.Imagine how bad it would be for all the poor house wives, who won't have facebook, instagram, pinterest et al, what would they do????????
Yeah. No one can really single-handedly turn off the internet. It's impossible.Well, the safe guards are how spread out it is. A single country/government/person doesn't control all the information/ways to get to it.
I believe this is actually required. They still have books, charts, etc in the cockpit.I wonder how many pilots in 30-40 years (Hell, NOW) could figure out how to manually track a course if we are so dependent on the internet.
How the hell does North Korea do it?Well, the safe guards are how spread out it is. A single country/government/person doesn't control all the information/ways to get to it.
Federica Ridolfi.Tillamook Extra Sharp Cheddar is all you need. Plus maybe some Gouda, Pepper jack, and Colby Jack. And some of those italian ones for the italian food like parmesan and that other one I can't think of right now. I think it starts with an R.
I would argue that history is one of the more important topics, but that the focus on dates and timelines makes it a memorization exercise (not sure this is the case). I feel focus should be on understanding history and that the why should be more important than the when. One of the main reasons I wondered about this is this book I'm reading... .LOOK AT ME I READ BOOKS!@@@#!~!......
They said that all available information is readily available online and that schools are weighting the wrong subjects when courses are taught. Classes like History (sorry tanner, it happened) should not be worried about as they are mostly memorization anyway, and that anyone can find dates, facts about history online. Kids should be taught to think, duh, and arts and maths should be more weighted to add to critical thinking, problem solving.
More about all of the companies that rely on the internet now.People can trade when the internet is down? :gasp:Probably causes a market crash and unrest at the very least. I assume NK's "internet" is all internal and exclusively controlled by the government. It's not the real internet. How the hell does North Korea do it? Not only do they stop everything, they make up their own ridiculous internet.Well, the safe guards are how spread out it is. A single country/government/person doesn't control all the information/ways to get to it.
Something tells me there are people a whole lot smarter, with more resources out there than the north korean government.
It was a joke. If you can't trade, the market can't... you know what, forget it. Your face relies on the internet now.More about all of the companies that rely on the internet now.People can trade when the internet is down? :gasp:Probably causes a market crash and unrest at the very least. There are many North Korean people online, as there are always ways to bypass government blocks, as long as there are people willing to assist. How the hell does North Korea do it?Well, the safe guards are how spread out it is. I don't think your fancy book-writing fella understands why we study history. One of the main reasons I wondered about this is this book I'm reading... .LOOK AT ME I READ BOOKS!@@@#!~!......

that makes a lot of sense to me....but wtf happens 50 years down the line if someone turns off the internet?
And don't even get me started on a.i.....
I am curious as to why a certain person with malicious intent couldn't turn it off, what safeguards are in place to stop someone.
And yea, power grids, communications, airlines, gps, everything is online now. I wonder how many pilots in 30-40 years (Hell, NOW) could figure out how to manually track a course if we are so dependent on the internet.
Not tin foil hat time here yet for me, but my curiosity is running overdrive
