GM's thread about nothing (25 Viewers)

We won't really know anything for sure until he talks to his doctor tomorrow, but there are a lot of good signs right now:

1. It's Stage III. Stage III is 99% survivable assuming the cancer hasn't spread (this is the real concern at this point I think)

2. They took 12 tissues samples of the prostate and only 3 contained cancerous cells. I have no idea if this is actually a good sign or not, but it sounds like it should be a good sign.

3. My dad has routinely been getting checked every 6 months, so it can't be any older than that, which is good I think.

All in all it sounds most likely that it will be unpleasant for him (I can't imagine the treatment is fun) but relatively not dangerous - assuming it hasn't spread.

Thanks for all the kind words. This thing has me pretty shook up. We have luckily enough to not have to deal with anything like this among our immediately family, and as silly as it sounds for a 37-year old to say this I think I still had that kid mentality that figured my dad would live forever. So yeah. Tomorrow at 1pm we'll all know more, but it's looking positive for a negative.

Dad has prostrate cancer.
sorry, GB.

But, on the flip side, this one has a very good recovery rate and is very common. My dad was diagnosed with severe prostate cancer well over 10 years ago. They removed his completely. He has been cancer free and is a beacon of health now. Will be 70 in October and is doing great.

Hugs, man.

Damn dude, sorry to hear TPW.

And obviously the last thing on your mind, but you mind want to go get checked yourself just in case. After my post vasectomy followup, my urologist told me if there was any history of it in my family to start getting checked now (I'm 35)
Oh yeah, I've been getting checked every other year for a decade. I've come to enjoy our little game of 'poke' at the Dr.'s office. I even tell him 'no glove this time'.

I'm 15 years older than you are, my friend - that feeling don't change.

Oh, and I want to mention that my parents found out on Wednesday, but because I had a golf trip with my friends planned and my brother and his wife were doing a bed and breakfast thing they waited until today when we were both back in town to tell us because that's the kind of people they are.

Also I should mention STL Bob rocked my world with a box of crap on Friday - a taste of St. Louis. Two varieties of beef sticks, some jerky, pasta sauce from a STL place, St. Louis BBQ Sauce, These spicy BBQ chips by Old Vienna of St. Louis that are amazing, and a gooey butter cake. Not to mention a big old bag of office supplies from the finest office supply company in the land that got my daughter and wife all excited. A really nice haul, and I apologize if I forgot anything but I'm doing this by memory.

Seriously? It shows it was delivered at 1:36 on Friday.

 USPS? Maybe the mailman held on to it...otherwise wrobg addy?

I'll let you know if it turns up...thx for the try.

I came inside after spending four hours building a retaining wall. I then proceeded to drink three beers very quickly without having eaten in several hours and I was dehydrated before I drink said beers. Woukd it be wise to go back out and try to work anymore today? I'm pretty sure I would have to have my wife watch me to make sure I didn't put a screw through my hand.

I'm in a startling amount of pain today. Reconstructed knee is bothering me and THe gout is making my feet feel as if they're on fire.

Good times

Some elves just dropped off the package SLB sent. Not sure if a neighbor got it or what...

Awesome haul of stuff SLB! BBQ sauce, whisky, chips, pasta sauce and a whole lot more. Wife says the is the "best box ever"! (She's trying to steal the pens already)

I have four friends who were diagnosed with prostate cancer. Every single one of them was diagnosed at least 3 years ago and every single one is still here. Your dad can beat this.

My mom is tough as nails. Raised on a farm, one of 14 kids, constant manual labor projects around the house, etc. I just had a chance to talk to her one on one. She's a complete wreck. So that's neat.

Thoprawishes GB Frosty. You and the Mrs have always been great to me when I've been feeling down... If there's anything I can do, just let me know.
