GM's thread about nothing (17 Viewers)

You in Vegas, Kev?
Twenty days out. Time to start practicing.
Where you staying?
Two night at Four Queens, three nights at the Plaza.
 How do the two compare? I've stayed at The Fitz( The D), Nugget, and Golden Gate.

The D is the best value IMO

Nugget is great but sometimes their prices are oddly inflated.

Golden Gate is a dump of a hotel. Love the casino but the rooms were terrible.
The D is a good value. Golden Gate was built in 1906; their phone number was 1. Actually actually true. They have also constructed a mini-tower of suites in back. If you're willing to peel off $100/night, they are pretty cool. They are owned by the same guy, so there is some cross-promotion.

I told my folks the only place I would let them stay downtown is the Nugget.

To answer your question, the 4Q rooms are small, roughly Motel 6 quality, but clean. They also have no resort fee, which makes them the last holdout I'm aware of. The Plaza is recently remodeled with furnishings from the Fontainebleu fiasco. Will report on those. Most importantly, I'm paying a grand total of $25 for all five nights. It may have come up that I'm a bit of a tightwad.

Yep. :bowtie:

I almost went to Las Vegas, New Mexico once.

This, again, feels like a night where I'm going to post a lot.
Want to play the song game?
I don't know what that means.
Originally it's a game my buddies and I used to play when we were wasted and CDs were a thing. You choose a song and play it. It must be listened to in its entirety and then somebody else chooses one. It can be something you like, a crowd pleaser, something you want to turn others on to or something to annoy the hell out of everybody.

Stryker and I did it a couple months back here. Same rules. Post the link and you have to listen to the whole thing before you can post the next one.
Sounds songy

I would have no problem staying at 4Q. I am easy to please.

Hi happy people!!!
I get confused when I see this alias now. I know it but I still always thing "Damn, he's back"
It doesn't matter what name I decide to use; that's the usual thought.
I was trying to set up the joke for someone else. Thanks, hoss.
Oh, I can go away again...because that's what I do.
:lmao:

Wait, is this blubajiks or imp ;)

I am beginning to see a pattern in my FFA life.

Most of the year I come and go in this thread only. Sometimes I'm regular, sometimes I'm sporadic. But its always a warm place to come and visit friends, as they mercilessly give one another ####. Its a great community I'm proud to be a part of.

But a couple times a year (during baseball or football fantasy drafts) I wander outside this thread and somehow end up in threads here that eat a bit of my soul. I get sucked in thinking there may be some discussion on the current events presented, but it always devolves into mean-spirited chest thumping and vitriol. How can people I associate with be so demeaning, ill-informed and petty?. Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in. STELLA!

Typically I'll disappear a month or so to deal with the PTSD and then recollect that there is the refuge that is GMTAN and I should just stay there. Where its safe.
 you, GB. You're one of the best.

Also, ****.

The Plaza has been very magnanimous to me over the years with my drunken shenanigans. The Fremont and Golden Gate as well. I stayed at the Golden Gate in a 2nd or 3rd floor room over Fremont. Fun, but the bed was literally 5'6" long. That was okay for me as I only had 4" of leg and 2" of #### hanging over but my 6'7 friend was not as fortunate. Luck wise the I've won more than I've lost at the Plaza, the Fremont and the El Cortez downtown so they are my favorites.

I also lost $1000 in about 13 minutes at the Golden Gate once. If it wasn't money I hadn't just won at Superbowl squares and if I wasn't blind drunk, I probably would have been more angry about it.

I have a GB whose wife is a hot chick and mediocre bass player. Yet, she seems to be constantly in demand to play in local bands. Can't imagine why.

"Esmae" -- The Black Tibetans

(song starts about :28)

What sucks it they don't have full vids on youtube. If you dig it check them out on Spotify. "Be With You" is pretty slick.

Oh and I want to hug the bass player a lot.
Not bad
I saw them live about 1.5 years ago. Never heard of them before. They were damn good. They based in L.A. I keep trying to find a way to see them down there but it never seems to work out. I think they played the Viper Club recently. RIP River Phoenix.

Playing what?
Blackjack.

It's a little foggy but I had won about $700 at Craps there the night before and had just won about another $400 at Superbowl squares. I was sitting with my buddy at the GG and he was losing horribly and I was winning. I went up maybe $200 or so in a few minutes. After my buddy cursed the GG, the dealer, her children, her parents and everybody within 20' he stormed off. I started play 2-3 hands each and kep winning. Of course, I got confident and soon those 2-3 hands were $100 each. I thought I was treading water but before long (likely 30 minutes) I was out of chips.

I'm functionally regarded and even I recognize that opening line.

K4> How you doin'?
Is Krista giving out love? I want some!!!
 s all around.

I've had a bad week. Feeling weepy (though no actual weeping has occurred) for several days. Think it's just stress of moving, etc. We've told all our friends here other than our closest friends, Jane and Andrew...it was her birthday yesterday and I wasn't going to do that at her party. We have plans on Wednesday and will break the news then; will likely bother me more than them but I hate it. We have new-ish neighbors whom we adore and hope that we won't ruin the nascent friendship with them, but they already seem to think we've died.

Speaking of dying, tomorrow we're climbing Granite Mountain, which apparently kills a person or two a year. I usually wouldn't read about the deaths until after I've climbed it, but for some reason strayed from that course. Generally people die in avalanches, so I guess we'll be OK as the snow at the top is finally gone. I'm looking forward to it but would rather not die, all things being equal.

Anyway, just feeling kind of ####ty over here.

My last trip to Vegas was like that.

Play craps, buy full odds on four rolls and crap out.

Three times in a row.

Down 650 and out in 15 minutes

Never even got my first drink delivered

Much love, Krista.

It would suck if you died so don't do that. Also, smile...stop to look around you and see what you have. It's worth a smile.

But there's the good trips too. This year I had a great one. Won every night. Won at the Superbowl. Post Superbowl I'm playing BJ and go down about $400. Put all my chips out that I was willing to lose for a list bet on one hand - $225. Get an 11 on the dealer's 10. Double down with cash, dealers pulls a ten.... I pull a ten. Much whoops were had. Kept playing and ended up on that night as well. Walked through McCarran the next morning with several Gs rolled up and bulging in my pants.

3 or 4 more weekends like that and I might end up even all time in that town.

Ouch.

My best ever run at craps was there. Keep in mind I am a very low-roller. Wife and I and a friend were there one night. I was trying to be smart and "budget" myself. So after a terrible run at 21. I had like $18 in chips left. I got up from the 21 table and saw my friend having a hell of a time at the $5 craps table. I jumped in next to him and threw down my pitiful stack.

I think I walked after about an hour with like $300. I know it isn't a crazy amount but considering I was playing $5 with some odds and no more than a couple of buy bets. Oh and some hard ways.

But the best part of it is that everybody at the table was having the time of their lives.

Somehow my friend and I started calling out what we needed in "football speak". If the point was 4 we would yell out "Emmitt Smith!". If it was 9 we'd yell out "Urlacher!" Not that it really worked but numbers were hitting like crazy.

At one point the guy with the dice looked at me and said "what do you want?" I told him "hard 9!" The whole table said "wtf". I shrugged and said "OK, easy 9". SOB rolls a 9.

I think your hiking life seems pretty awesome.

And trust me, I completely understand how much it sucks to say goodbye to neighbors that you've grown very close to. At least you'll never have to worry about saying it to someone whose been your neighbor for more than a decade.;-)

Huh, I thought Tanner nailed it...but LD nailed it harder. Well done.
