Depends on what resolution you want... I've seen Netflix look like the TV My pop used to keep in the garage in the early 80s at one guys' house.

I think Netflix sends out the packets in 1 resolution. how your tv interprets that is on your side. the data transfer though is nothing more than youtube. its not streaming 1080p quality

They have multiple tiers for streaming. IIRC it's something like 1.5, 3 and 5Mb/s I think they also have a Super HD which is something along the lines of 7 or 9Mb/s. There is no way for them to send out one resolution, if they did and bandwidth wasn't sufficient then you would have horribly pixelated content or lots of pauses and buffering.

I don't know if Netflix did an upgrade for the app or if my app just started working correctly now, but I'm loving this thing. Best $30 I've spent in a while.

HBOGo has been working better of late, but still has some small wonky issues (randomly freezes for a few seconds, sometimes drops out of casting completely)

Well, prior to last week, I could only start a movie. I couldn't pause it or stop it. So if one of us had to go to the bathroom or get something to eat, it was similar to being at a movie theater. Whatever changed this past week, I now have full control. That makes a huge difference. And while it's not the best thing I ever bought, I really can't complain for $30. And that's coming from someone who loves to complain.

I still think this thing is amazing. I can't get over the fact that I can que up a movie on my phone (which is itself amazing), and then throw it to my tv with pretty good picture and sound with no wires. Crazy. Me and the family must have spent 2hrs over the holidays just watching cat videos.

I agree. My daughter asked me how it works and I told her it was magic. I'm fairly confident I was correct.

I tried this and I could not get it to work. Seems the chromecast was tied to my home network and wouldn't work on the hotels. Now I am not saying it WONT work, but if you take it from your home network and try to use it elsewhere you may have to reset it etc to get it to work.

To date there's been almost no developer support, as the SDK was not widely available. That changed yesterday: http://gigaom.com/2014/02/03/chromecast-apps-sdk-google-cast/
I'd anticipate a slew of cast-ready apps in the near future.

Mine has been fine too, even though I plug the power into the wall so it doesn't turn off with the tv.

Haven't been following this thread, so apologies if this has been asked/answered, but would this work for buying Sunday Ticket on your phone and casting to the TV? I'm moving into a new house and am REALLY trying to figure out a way to run Sunday Ticket without having to use DirecTV - is this a solution or am I better off just streaming through my PS3?

How do you buy Sunday Ticket without Directv? I had it this season with Madden, but I'm assuming that was a one time thing.
FWIW, the Sunday Ticket ap did NOT have Chromecast support this season. That doesn't mean it won't next season though.
I used my laptop. Pulled up Sunday Ticket on a Google Chrome tab, then cast that to tv with Chromecast.

This past season I did that very thing with the Madden 25th anniversary that came with Sunday Ticket on a computer. I just have a Home Theater PC (HTPC) connected to my big screen. It's obviously more expensive than a chromecast, but it does far more things.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but what's the difference in those two underlines statements? If you can watch it and chrome and thus "cast it", doesn't that means it's supported?

Anything you watch through the Chrome browser can be cast to the Chromecast. The Sunday Ticket App is not played through the Chrome browser, though, it is played through an app. Video available through apps (such as Netflix) need to be able to cast themselves.

So when you "cast" something the quality isn't as good as if you had an app?They just need to get the Amazon Prime app working with it. Casting that is no good

The first is a phone ap. The second is a laptop/pc browser window. Anything in a Google Chrome tab can be cast but it runs through your computer, unlike the supported aps that Chromecast can run directly. Cutting out that middleman tends to improve quality and ease of use considerably.

Also, what music apps or whatever can you "cast" or "stream" to this if your TV is connected to a sound system? Can I sit on my deck and "cast" pandora or iheartradio or itunes radio or songs already on my phone to the chromecast on my living room TV and it's sound system? Kinda like a small "whole home audio system" if I have one of these things on each TV in my house?

Currently just Pandora and Google Play I think. Will likely change soon. So, yes you can cast Pandora from your phone to any chromecast device on the same wifi. But I don't think you can cast to multiple devices simultaneously.

As far as I understand, if the app is going straight to chromecast, it avoids the doubling up on the wifi transmission. Right now, I have to play the video on my laptop which comes in through wifi. Then, I have to transmit it from the laptop to chromecast. The quality of the picture is the same, but it was very choppy. This could be a result of my wifi, but it is not slow and plays video fine for the most part on my laptop. Even when I knocked out the high res, it lagged too much for me to stand it.So when you "cast" something the quality isn't as good as if you had an app?They just need to get the Amazon Prime app working with it. If it goes straight to chromecast via an app, it should play better as it is not just reading from your open browser.

I streamed it from my laptop a few times, it worked well but I have pretty good Internet and wifi.
