I was going to buy the Amazon version of this and then it showed that the Amazon one doesn't support screen-mirroring for iOS. I didn't want to make an ### out of me, so I asked.

Xfinity tv app. I use my phone as a second tv. For example I'll put hockey or football on one tv and the other show on my phone or tableteta: not the xfinity to go app but the xfinity tv app that is hooked to the cloud dvr where I can download or stream live TV or recordings

I have latest Netflix/Chromecast apps.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling everything.

Youtube works. Chrome works. Other #### works

BUT NETFLIX NO LONGER WORKS.

And damnit it used to work too.

I've noticed that it works better x a lot when run from our cheapo android device than from our fancy ipad.

also noticed that running our home videos from the the devices or from our phones (samsung) goes very, very slowly/choppy.

I have broadband 50/5mb and I wonder if there's anyway to get a smoother picture? I've also snapped on the additional HDMI connector but that doesn't help with the choppiness. Changing the Tab casting quality in options doesn't help either.

I'm also casting hulu (not plus) from my android and it looks perfect, but hulu from my PC is also a tad choppy.

Agreed.. one of the biggest shortcomings of the device

A Wi-Fi chip that does 5GHz costs more, so Google might want to account for that in their profit margin. Also, it would consume more power, which may force use of the wall power adapter. This could be a turnoff to many users.

my wife got a kindle as a gift recently, I have not been able to figure out how to do it natively, but it seems as if there are some root options (that I am not willing to mess with)

Anyone tried out the Nexus Player yet? Looks like Google's version of Apple TV. Includes all the capabilities of a chromecast but looks to have a better interface and comes with a remote control (with voice input) and an optional game controller. $99.

That is a very common permission for browser extensions. It's basically the one that the extensions have to ask for in order to interact with the web page, which is the point of most of the extensions that are actually helpful. It really isn't nefarious.

Finally got one of these things. Testing it out, it works pretty good. Had a hell of a time typing in video paths until I saw the Ctrl-O trick. This does exactly what I hoped it would do. Bah-bye HDMI cable.

I'd imagine so. When you're casting you're really tuning the Chromecast, I think.

Ah, I only stream from Netflix and HBOGO.

The Fire TV stick is about a million times better for regular steaming stuff. Especially if you are a Prime user. I guess if you want to put a browser up on the TV Chromecast would be better, but I have yet to find a reason to do that, and ours has done nothing but collect dust since we got the FTVS.

I've been a subscriber to NFL.com's Game Rewind for a few years now. I've done tab casting of the games, but like most tab casting of video, the quality is poor. I was hoping that NFL.com would have a Chromecast app for this service.

This year they finally did it. Game Pass, the successor to Game Rewind, offers casting. I tried it out tonight and the quality is exactly what I had hoped...like DVR'ing the game.
