I am still not sure what the device provides that my 2006 PS3 in my main tv area does not or my relatively basic blu ray player in bedroom does not. And my PS3 and bluray player can stream any local file from my media server as well which is important as I have a pretty large library of tv and movies stored digitally.

All my wife wants to know is "Can we kill Cable TV wit this and just go with Internet/phone? Without sacrificing EVERYTHING that cable has to offer??
My concern is that Cable will #### with my internet speed once they detect the usage there...

Model? I'm looking for exactly that. Blu-ray player that can stream .mkvs from NAS and shows my HTPC records off cable, stream netflix and hulu, and maybe access pandora for tunes.

It is a very basic unit. You just need to look for one that supports dlna (I think most do) and then research what encodings each model supports. I typically wrap everything in either mp4 or avi wrappers and use h.264 as an encoder. These are supported by my ps3 and blu ray player. The exact model of my blu ray player is Sony BDP-S580 but as I said very basic. There are much smarter models out there with a ton of apps if you look around.

Now that I think about it, I might have a use for this. I have a LCD outside that is not hooked up to a a cable box. When I want to watch it, I pull the cable out the bedroom window and hook it up. Looks white-trash and restricts the person inside from using the bedroom Television. i was going to drop a line to it but the installer dudes want way too much money since it's attached to a brick wall. A device like this would allow me to fire up my computer or phone for sunday ticket or netflix and stream to the TV in HD instead of having a cable running outside the window.I'm with you. I have a PS3 and blu ray that do that too, but ordered one. I hate how they always seem to require updates that take 5-10 minutes or so, so see this as a way to avoid dealing with that.

Without reading through the thread entirely, if I get this, I could stream the Canelo/Floyd fight on my comp (for free) and have it transferred to my TV with this device? Wrestling PPVs etc?

That makes no sense. Google should only be so lucky as to have a hardware hit on its hands. if they end up having to subsidize the Netflix promo, they should. Hell, if they need to BUY netflix they should. Furthermore I can't believe with all the data at their disposal they were unable to forecast demand.
