Best Buy cancled my order...#### those guys...
Pennies being thrown?

Did they say why it was cancelled?
I called and they couldn't tell me....it is now sold out on their website.

Had to order from Google and the ship date is now 3 weeks later plus no free shipping.

Really, #### Best Buy.
What time did you order? Mine is still open...

Order Status:: 2 item(s) - Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in 3 - 5 days
I ordered around 11. They aren't doing shipping anymore.

I tried in-store pickup but those ####ers cancled that too.

I ordered mine at 9am... hopefully it will stick. In-Store pickup wasn't even available when I ordered.

I am still not sure what the device provides that my 2006 PS3 in my main tv area does not or my relatively basic blu ray player in bedroom does not. And my PS3 and bluray player can stream any local file from my media server as well which is important as I have a pretty large library of tv and movies stored digitally.

All my wife wants to know is "Can we kill Cable TV wit this and just go with Internet/phone? Without sacrificing EVERYTHING that cable has to offer??

My concern is that Cable will #### with my internet speed once they detect the usage there... :oldunsure:

Then you don't need one

Model? I'm looking for exactly that. Blu-ray player that can stream .mkvs from NAS and shows my HTPC records off cable, stream netflix and hulu, and maybe access pandora for tunes.

From the excitement level I assumed I was missing something cool. This seems like technology every should have had available to them for years now which is why I asked.

I'm with you. Is this only useful for people that dont have a roku or smart tv or ps3 or xbox or br player? Seems like anyone that wants this content probably already has it. Even if it is only $11.

It is a very basic unit. You just need to look for one that supports dlna (I think most do) and then research what encodings each model supports. I typically wrap everything in either mp4 or avi wrappers and use h.264 as an encoder. These are supported by my ps3 and blu ray player. The exact model of my blu ray player is Sony BDP-S580 but as I said very basic. There are much smarter models out there with a ton of apps if you look around.

Now that I think about it, I might have a use for this. I have a LCD outside that is not hooked up to a a cable box. When I want to watch it, I pull the cable out the bedroom window and hook it up. Looks white-trash and restricts the person inside from using the bedroom Television. i was going to drop a line to it but the installer dudes want way too much money since it's attached to a brick wall. A device like this would allow me to fire up my computer or phone for sunday ticket or netflix and stream to the TV in HD instead of having a cable running outside the window.

That is a perfect use for a device like this.

Except I literally got my new DirectTV discounts this morning and just looked and forgot to get her to add Ticket MAX. :wall: Wonder if I can call back and get it added....

Has anyone found out if you can run multiple instances of this off of one laptop? Can I have multiple game streams on my computer (each on their own chrome tab or something), and "sling" each to a different TV at the same time?

If I buy two of them, do I get 6 months of Netflix credits? I'm actually starting to warm up to the idea of this thing.

I have a PS3 and blu ray that do that too, but ordered one. I hate how they always seem to require updates that take 5-10 minutes or so, so see this as a way to avoid dealing with that.

"...all while standing on my head, spitting wooden nickels aaand sexing teh wife"

Without reading through the thread entirely, if I get this, I could stream the Canelo/Floyd fight on my comp (for free) and have it transferred to my TV with this device? Wrestling PPVs etc?

TIA

ETA: I'm a #######. I guess the websites you stream for "free" fights/PPVs could be run through your Xbox or PS3 as well.

Shoot me...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f_DPrSEOEo

Why do you think this new device won't need updates? It is likely going to have bug fixes and feature ads that may require new fw and/or sw.

I wonder if I set up a new Netflix account (which gets 30 days free) and add this if I would end up with 4 free months.

Yes, but depending upon the quality of a stream on your computer, it may be unwatchable when it is blown up to show on your tv.

It might; I don't know. For $10, I figured it was a worth a shot to see if it's better.

It will. They've already said that they will be continuously updating it.

Bump.

Anyone have concerns about your service provider slowing things down based on a spike in usage??

Don't think they've done that in a noticeable way for people that already view a lot of streaming content. Its not like this device provides a new way to watch tv. Its just another device that does the same stuff other devices out there like roku already do.

I used 256Gb on Comcast in June and didn't have any slowdown. I can't imagine people using much more than that.

Netflix deal is over apparently.

So cancelling orders and removing the netflix promo. Hats off to those who got these early... was a good deal. At a full $35 with a month lead time... ehhh....
That makes no sense. Google should only be so lucky as to have a hardware hit on its hands. if they end up having to subsidize the Netflix promo, they should. Hell, if they need to BUY netflix they should. Furthermore I can't believe with all the data at their disposal they were unable to forecast demand.

They're probably losing money on the hardware even when selling it at full price. The Netflix deal must have been raping them.
