Government employee thread! (Being a government employee is sweet) (1 Viewer)

The head of IMB said in October he wanted to inflict pain on bureaucrats. He wanted them scared to come to work and to experience trauma. So it does seem like he’s looking to carry that out with the treatment of the govt employees. That’s an incredibly combative email to send to your entire staff. Good grief.

Can you share the link please for that?

“ If federal employees are feeling traumatized right now, Russell Vought, the new head of the office of management and budget (OMB), probably has something to do with it.

“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected,” Vought said in a video revealed by ProPublica and the research group Documented in October. “When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work, because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down … We want to put them in trauma.”

"“We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected. When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work because they are increasingly viewed as the villains. We want their funding to be shut down so that the EPA can’t do all of the rules against our energy industry because they have no bandwidth financially to do so. We want to put them in trauma.”"

I feel sorry for all y’all. There’s no good use for this besides to be fed into an AI machine.

Will this apply to enlisted military?
Not to military, enlisted or officers. Just civilians.
I just checked and did not receive that email.
The emails appear to have been sent in batches. I received mine in the afternoon, others appear to have received it hours later.
I received mine while working on the weekend to cover some priority items, earning some comp time.

Just got a notification from our command messaging system.

They are in contact with the dept of the Army and OPM and no one should reply to the OPM email until further notice. More guidance will be issued Monday.
Army here, our SES requested we wait to respond.

Demoralize until they quit. Seems like the Government likes this method.
“The government” doesn’t like or dislike anything. Individuals in different positions seem to want us to quit.

On the off chance we do respond and my response is read by certain people, it wouldn’t surprise me if they started targeting our jobs. Not DEI or anything like that, just clearly something not valued by those running this —— show.

Government comment was more a reflection of how they proceeded with covid vaccine holdouts as well. They couldn't really fire those employees, so it was reduced to threats and making their lives as inconvenient as possible.

What exactly do you do? If you can say...

From my last conversation with other civilian deputies, we're probably going to write 5x generic bullets that cover 95% of what we do as a whole since we work in a classified environment. Hopefully that satisfies the requirement.

My gut tells me this email was widely distributed for legality sake and they are likely targeting a select few sectors. Opm won't even read half the replies.

One thing I don't miss about working for the feds is reading all the emails about barbecues and fundraising events coming up. Maybe it's changed, but years ago I'd sort through so many emails and quickly delete the millions sent out to "all" without really reading. This "productiviity" email could very well be accidently deleted. Ha ha

They’re probably assuming 10% don’t even read their emails and this is an easy way to spot them.

It seems like a compulsive, ill-informed email based on a power trip based on the entire history of the individual involved. I doubt any level of thought even close to this took place.
Yea it’s crazy to me people keep trying to assign rational thoughts to any of this.
On the surface it seems really dumb, but I don't think Musk is a dumb person. It makes me think there is another angle in play.

No, he's not dumb. At all. That said, he tried to back out of the Twitter sale once he figured out its real monetary valuation, but he was already locked in because of merger and acquisition law and had to buy it. By something like that alone, he's shown that he can do tempestuous things without really running through every scenario.

Right. Seems rather obvious that they are telling us who they are. Believe them.

Also some of his recent appearances do have me questioning his current state of mind and I’ll leave it at that.

I don't always see mine in a timely fashion. I work in a SCIF with limited unclassified access. Not everyone has an unclassified computer.

If you look at how he uses X, he’s very prone to making declarations or big statements and just firing them off to millions without what most would consider the proper vetting and forethought that most CEO types would take.

It also seems there's evidence that the initial departments being targeted are about ideology and not financial.

I get that, but he isn't the OPM director either. That person/chain should be the sanity check and they are doing a terrible job.

I like Musk, but the thing I just saw (with the chainsaw) was super cringey. He's quite the awkward fella.

I don't know about everywhere else, but we're not allowed to send emails in that matter. You can hang something outside your cube about a fundraiser, but there can be no direct contacts

Yeah, there are rules against using government systems for non official purposes. Personally (not the law) I’d be against almost any fundraising .

He's a super nerd who got somewhat popular and now he thinks he's cool but he's still just a super nerd.

You could make an argument that this is a coincidence of sorts. I don't want to discuss it politically here, but the reputation of the parties is certainly small govt conservatism vs big government spending - so of course if you're just tracking waste, you'd look at all the stuff you think is wasteful first, which would likely be anything that extends beyond the "small govt" ideology.

I think it would be difficult to untangle the two because, for example, one persons idea of waste could be "not achieving the agency's mission in the most efficient possible manner" while another could be "anything in support of a mission that in itself is wasteful".

The FFA probably isn't the place for debating what is or isn't a wasteful mission, but I don't think it's remotely ground breaking, surprising, or sinister that things might line up that way quickly in execution of a huge waste reduction initiative.

Thank you.

I agree with you this doesn't seem groundbreaking it would line up this way.

And please, let's drop it there and keep this to the topic of non partisan information and helping people affected by this navigate. The "what is wasteful spending" or "look at how dumb these people are" stuff is political forum talk.

Please let's keep this thread alive if possible and avoid taking it there.

I'm glad you popped in here because I want to ask a couple tough questions and you are the guy to set the narrative or keep us on track

-#1 I've seen it with people from ALL walks of life on the TV, ALL Networks...with these potential mass layoffs, many of us have family members that we do not associate with a particular political party. They are just regular people like the rest of us. And some of these people are being shown the door or walked out or asked to voluntarily resign.

How do you accept that innocent folks are having their entire lives turned upside down?
It feels very unsettling, my brother has worked for Veterans Affairs for years and I'm afraid that time is coming to an end. He is in IT-CyberSecurity so I have no doubt he will land on his feet but that choice should not have been forced on him IMHO. He sacrifices a lot of potential paycheck by working as a government employee and part of that his dedication to other Veterans that have put their lives on the line so we can all enjoy the freedoms of this country. My brother was a Navy Corpsman

#2 Is it natural to support some of these cuts in government while at the same time also feeling disturbed by some of the folks that are being forced out of their careers?

I believe that is as far as I can really take it. I just want others out there going thru this either themselves or family members, you're not alone.
I am concerned many of these folks are likely living paycheck to paycheck, people with families/children could lose their homes as this unfolds.

Thanks JB

Elon believes in some weird conspiracies.

The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, there is outright fraud.
i had a response here, but let’s not go there.

Won't those people now be alerted to check and respond to their email??

He tweeted this? Bonkers stuff.

I don't know who would not be in favor of reducing government waste, but I would have preferred an internal audit of all expenditures and contracts. Maybe the people in these agencies could point out pork in their own areas.
The government hands out massive contracts in the regular, for inflated costs to friends of this politician or that one (both sides of the aisle, clearly).

The combined salaries of those fired will be a small amount, compared to waste elsewhere. Laying off Americans should be last resort, not the first.

They are starting from a place where they villify people, when in fact they could probably cut a few senior Senators pet projects, and save the same amount of money

Might as well call this thread the new PSF
Really don’t want to see this thread shut down. As is often the case, this thread is a tremendous source of real-life info on a timely topic.

The answer isn’t shutting down the topic. It is giving cascading consequences to folks who can’t control their own impulses and behaviors.

I'm no expert, but I get the sense that it's been known for quite some time that there is a ton of government waste, and despite fancy speeches about it over the last several decades, nothing has changed (if anything has gotten worse).

I don't know if the current strategy is optimal, but it doesn't seem any other strategy has been effective. Will this be effective and/or will there be unintended fallout? It appears we are on the road to finding out.

Do all levels of government employees have access to their work emails outside the office?
No. If I didn’t bring my computer home this weekend, I wouldn’t. No doubt people who do manual labor wouldn’t have access unless their supervisors make sure they do.
Just saying, if people had to do this when submitting their time card, this would have been easier.

That always sounds nice until half a dozen popular posters are suspended and then that creates all kinds of problems and they post about it for years. It's always the "other" person that went over the line while "they" are being unfairly persecuted. It's exhausting and discouraging some people ignore what we repeatedly ask.
