Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (2 Viewers)

Not much of a gamer ever (my parents wouldn't let me have video games as a child :excited: ), but NHL 94 came out my senior year in high school and we played it all thoguh collegeWe'd have tourneys, skip class to play, invent drinking games and come up with all kinds of our own rulesWe had one tourney where we could all create one superplayer for our teamMost everyone created a 99 level center that would dominateOne of my buddies created a goalie:lmao:We still mock him over this
It lives strong at colleges in 2011.
This makes me happy:lmao:

2.11 - Knights of the Old Republic - Role Playing

My favorite game ever. And my favorite Star Wars story too.

I'm headed out for the night so if it somehow gets back to me, we're stuck.

2.10 - NHL Hockey 94 - Genesis - Fourth Generation

“NHL Hockey 94 was the first game to support four players at once. It introduced one-timers to hockey videogames, and brought to the ice a fast, fun, and fierce gameplay experience that hockey games today are still trying to live up to.”

You know a game is good when 15 years later people are still gaining fans in the age of graphics obsessed whining COD kids. I found a SEGA Genesis and some games in a cardboard box in a friends garage while helping him move. Inside was this gem that I have never played before until 6 months ago. Now it is used to solve our disputes and for drinking games. This game is so simple, but fantastic, so fun and addicting.

OTC: Andy Dufresne,
I strongly considered taking this for my pick. It was a great game, but I there's only 2 other series I've played over and over as much as the one I picked (and I picked a game off of one of the series in the first pick). I would've hated myself if it didn't make it back to me and there are other sports games I'd be satisfied with taking on my list. Chicago Blackhawks owned in NHL '94.

It's great to hear that a new generation has adopted the game. :goodposting:

PC or Xbox?
It goes in Role Playing, so it's just (XBox, PC). That's how I'd label it. Either way, it's sixth gen.
Ya I know. He wants it in the RPG category, but I ask what platform to be more specific for the judges because on some games their is a big difference in quality.

I can tell you one thing, jwb is going to have a crazy time judging the RPGs.
I hope he's already done his homework. I can just imagine the wait for the results. "Wait, I haven't finished playing the games to make a final judgement. Give me... umm.. a couple of years." In fact, better him than me. Urgh.

When I first thought about doing this draft I was considering just being the judge in certain categories like RPG, Best Story, Suspense/Horror, and Sixth Generation because I know way too much about those categories.

Anyone ever have one of those combo NES/SNES/Genesis consoles? My research for this draft is getting me amped to play the older gems.

2.13 Doom (FPS) PC Version - The game that put FPS on the map!

3.01 Mike Tyson Punch-Out (Hack & Slash/Beat em Up) NES Version

/EDIT to add Category for Punch-Out

Please remember to put what gaming platform(console/pc) your choice is for.

If they are only for one then I can easily get it, but some are for multiple platforms.

An apology....Mario Kart originally pmed me his picks after and since he already had a main character, I wrongly assumed Samus was a bad guy. I had played some Metroid in the past, but not enough to remember who was who in the game. His next choice would of been FFIII, which Larry took already. That means Samus Aranus must move to the flex category and I think the word game should be removed from the category...so as to make this a valid pick. Again, I am sorry Mario Kart.

I'm not aware of Doom and Punch-Out being multi platform. Thought they were PC and NES respectively
Doom was also on the SNES, which is how I was introduced to it because I didn't have a computer. Punch out was NES only I believe.
Punch-Out was originally an arcade title. Doom was ported to pretty much every console out in the 90's, including N64, Jaguar, Sega 32X and Saturn, etc etc...

For the fun of it...my picks for best picks each round so far, not that any of you care of course.

Round 1-- Mario

Round 2-- Street Fighter II

Please unpack this a bit for me. From what I am understanding, he didn't really want Samus unless his 1st choice on main character was gone. There's nothing we can do about it now since so many picks have gone by, but Samus is staying as a main character. Each drafter needs 2 main characters, 2 bad guys, 2 arcade titles, and two flex video game titles. All other categories they need one choice for each.

Here's some video of the Punch-out arcade game. It was also made by Nintendo. It featured double video monitors, the normal one and one above that one where you would see the fight statistics, etc. The first video shows both monitors smashed into a fullscreen. The second video shows just the bottom monitor. The sound of the original arcade game was awesome. Also, some known facts about the two games is that the NES had to make changes to port to console. The console version as you know gave us Soda Popinski. Well, in the arcade, his original name was Vodka Drunkenski, as also seen in the 2nd video. There were several changes like this made. 3rd link shows the arcade cabinet. Arm and gloves were not included with the cabinet.

Yeah, he's gotta pick 2 main characters anyway. I know it was a honest mistake, but It's the dangers of turning on autopick.

Locking up 2 of what I would say the top 5 main characters in a 26 selection categories imo is a smart way to bank some points, even if by accident.

He made his first pick himself, then pmed me 2 choices (top choice was Samus) for his round 2 pick.

What!!!??? This is news to me!

I'm going to reannounce my picks, but add video links for the games I'm picking. I meant to do this anyway, but I'm going to do them for all the rest of my picks from here on. Here are the previous picks along with their respective video links.

1.09 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Role Playing, N64

The 5th game in the Legend of Zelda series (no the CD-i games don't count, I don't care what you say), Ocarina of Time was the Legend of Zelda's first leap into 3rd Dimensional gaming on the Nintendo 64. The introduction of Z-targetting really helped make this leap a success where other franchises couldn't find their way. The game was the first game to ever receive a perfect 10/10 rating from IGN. Ocarina of Time will also be given a full 3D re-release this year on the upcoming Nintendo 3DS.

It was fan made. There's like 4 different versions that are of that quality. It really makes you wanna play the game and see that movie!

A classic, was one of my top choices for sports. nice pick

Nfl 2k5 was for xbox.

3.02 I take gta 3. Ps2

This game completely changed video games for the better.
For which category.
5th generation It was released in 2001
GTAIII is 6th Generation, all PS2 games fall in that category. The time frame of 1993-2001 for 5th Gen is there because other 5th gen consoles were still making games into 2001. But the specific console(PS2) is what determines which generation something is considered. I have what consoles fall into which generation in the categories & judges section on the first page.

Ah, got it. Still not many more influential and critically acclaimed PS2 games then GTA 3
