Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (2 Viewers)

Here's my writeup I had for it. :lmao: Half-Life: Named Game of the Year by over 50 publications, Valve’s debut title blends action and adventure with award-winning technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players must think to survive. Also includes an exciting multiplayer mode that allows you to play against friends and enemies around the world.edit: I should've also included that it was the first game to sell a "Game of the Year" edition, something that is too common these days. Seriously, how can every game be Game of the Year?

Well since I don't play too many Hack & Slash/Beat 'em up games, and I'm sure this one will be taken sometime, I guess I'll go with...

7.03 - Batman: Arkham Asylum - Hack & Slash/PS3

Not my favorite game, but it's pretty fun beating up The Joker's goons. And the atmosphere is really cool.

7.04 Contra

Not sure if i want arcade, third, or platformer yet. But its a tough game,

If your a girly man! Up, UP, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.

This game is on my to be played list. Everyone says great things about it.

You've got God of War as a platformer
I meant to ask about this before, but I wasn't at a place I could post when I read this pick and forgot...Is God of War really a platformer? In my mind it has always felt like a beat 'em up game where you just go in and massacre a ton of enemies...Where a platformer is something like Mario or other similar games where the point isn't necessarily taking out enemies...

Its a platformer. It fits because you do a ton of platforming, its just bloodier than Super Mario 64.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game
The platform game (or platformer) is a video game genre characterized by jumping to and from suspended platforms or over obstacles (jumping puzzles). It must be possible to control these jumps and to fall from platforms or miss jumps. The most common unifying element to these games is a jump button; other jump mechanics include swinging from extendable arms, as in [deleted], or bouncing from springboards or trampolines, as in [deleted]. These mechanics, even in the context of other genres, are commonly called platforming, a verbification of platform. Games where jumping is automated completely, such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, fall outside of the genre.
Should give an idea. A lot of games can be consider platformers.

I know what a platformer is...like I said, I've never played God of War, I'm going by what i've seen of the game, and it always seemed to me to fit better in beat 'em up/hack n slash than platformer...

No idea where it falls in line with the others since I only played the first two. But scared the hell out of me

7.5 Resident Evil 2 (twooooooooo)-Horror

7.06 Yo Mama selects:

Tekken 3 - PS - (Fighter)

Went with the console version rather than the arcade version. The graphics were incredible (blew me away at the time), sound effects/music were outstanding, with added dimensions and characters above and beyond the arcade version.

With the limit of one version per franchise, this category could dry up fairly quick.

ROUND 7

6. Yo Mama Tekken

7. wazoo11

8. bmarks6161

9. Slax

10. larry_boy_44

11. rikishiboy

12. Mario Kart

13. BlueDredSo

Round 7.07 Unreal Tournament -PC (FPS/TPS)

Developed by Epic Games

Published by GT Interactive

Release Date: 05/22/98

Unreal: The game that sold a thousand engine licenses. Literally. Unreal was more of a montage of fantasy and science fiction-themed levels than anything else. Sure, there was a story hidden away in the tiny dialog boxes, but most of the fun was just exploring the breathtaking levels and checking out the beautiful environments than anything else. Unreal was the first game to have truly killer water effects. The multiplayer netcode was nearly unplayable when it was released, but as I'm sure you all know by now, Epic managed to work the kinks out and even became a leader in the field.

The Test of Time: Pretty funky by today's standards, but still colorful.

OH NO!!I think I'm out of places to put Super Nintendo RPGs and Mario games...What ever will I pick!?!?!?!
There's always Flex. ;)And I wasn't trying to insult your intelligence for a platformer. Just putting the definition out there.
I know... just explaining my confusion...I've also realized recently that, taken very literally, Mario is quite violent... I mean, you kill a TON of things in that game... most of the time by repeatedly stomping on their skulls... :football: = Mario's worst enemy  lol

7.08 Double Dragon - Arcade - Beat'Em Up

The defining two player cooperative Beat'Em up

 there are a couple others that could MAYBE make an argument for #1 in this category... But Double Dragon probably should be #1 and its a travesty if it isn't in the top 2 or 3 of the rankings...

Slax sent me a list earlier and said if he didn't make his pick within 10 minutes he was in a meeting.

7.09 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, 5th Gen PS1

5.08 Halo 3 - XBOX 360 - best multiplayer
:goodposting: I can't believe the original Halo was drafted after Halo 3. It was pretty big in the evolution of console FPS. Like Goldeneye it had hours of playability with friends but you could LAN them so it was a little better. I realize consoles are years behind PC but the majority of kids were console gamers. It essentially brought FPS to the masses. Even MS didn't realize how big the multiplayer was going to be. They thought the campagin would be a bigger deal, which was pretty awesome as well. The huge interest in multiplayer LAN caused MS to alter it's plan for H2 and use it to sign up a millions of people for XBL, which wasn't too popular at first.H3 was the 3rd best game in the series imo. H1, Reach, H3, H2 in that order. If you were near college age during the life of the original Xbox you undoubtedly spent quite a bit of time playing this game. I remember severl friends getting in fights with gf's and even breaking up over Halo. :clyde:

7.10 Bejeweled 2, PC

there are a total of 8,760 hours in a year. In 2008 it was estimated that this game had been played for over 6 BILLION hours. That is a grand total of 684,931 days. And that is as of 2 years ago. Between the various mobile versions, the full PC games (and its updates/expansions), the web-based browser game, and the Facebook app (Bejeweled Blitz), this very well could be the MOST played game of all time.

It revolutionized the industry (creating the "casual game" genre of small, easy to play games that don't take forever), and is known by almost literally everyone who's been on a computer.

also, cool story: http://www.bejeweled.com/fan03.php It took one person 2,205 hours and 51 minutes of play time to beat the game with a score of 2,147,483,647.

edit to add: put it in the "puzzle" category.

the designers didn't think anyone would (or could) play the game for that long... they even made a computer to play the game for them and it seems the computer didnt last as long as this guy did....Any thoughts on the pick? Good, bad??? lol

:relieved:I was worried that it was gonna get universally panned for being too mainstream, too popular with wives/girlfriends, and not "hardcore" enough...

pm'ed madshot two picks so if either gets sniped than put me on skip for tonight. Waiting until 3:24 central time or rikishiboy's pick.
