Greatest Video Game Draft 2011 (1 Viewer)

11.09 Team Fortress 2, Best Multiplayer, PC

The long awaited sequel to one of the best team-based games of all-time, Team Fortress 2 finally released in 2007 to rave reviews.

The game went through several variations before it released, though. At one point, the game looked more like Call of Duty than it does today. Early critics were not sure about the new cartoony approach. While hardcore fans of the original Team Fortress were upset with the removal of grenades and the smooth, fast action gameplay.

The final result, proved to be a success, as Valve took a more team oriented approach, requiring teamwork to acheive objectives over solo play. The game has been a huge juggernaut hit and has even surpassed Valve's other multiplayer PC hit in terms of popularity. With Valve lending constant support and updates to the PC version, the game keeps evolving. This is why I picked it for Best Multiplayer.

Pre-release Trailer -

(This is the best of the bunch, IMO)http://www.teamfortress.com/movies.htm (Official Home to the videos)

(The Meet The... videos are a great watch if you haven't seen them.)

One of the best multiplayer games to come out in a long time for the PC. Ive spent about a total of 2 or 3 months (according to Steam) on this game.

I've never played this, sounds like I should give it a go

A word of advice. I know it's available on console (XBox 360 and PS3), but don't even bother with those versions.

If anyone picking between 11.10 and 12.04 thinks they won't be here to draft and wants to send me their picks, that would be fine. I should be here to make them.

Can not shout this advice enough. Its such an awful game on the consoles. Not just the controls but the whole feel of the game is different.

I don't think so. I have to check when I get home from work.

People blame Valve for this, but the blame goes to EA on the PS3 side and Microsoft on the XBox side for different reasons. The PS3 version was just a terrible port and I know I blamed EA, but I believe they did the port. The 360 version just couldn't get the support it needed due to Microsoft's rules regarding Microsoft Live, so Valve could never get a patch through. With Steam, you can get patched daily if needed.

Yo Mama gets:

Contra + (13.04)

Madshot gets :

His BabyGears of War + (16.08)

Yo Mama, what category do you want Contra in.

11.10 Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fighter/Beat 'em Up/7th Generation FLEX

I don't know where to put this game to utilize it best, so I'm putting it in flex. The best Smash Bros. game of the series, IMO, as far as the fighting goes is improved GREATLY by the "Subspace Embassy" platforming/beat 'em up game.

In Subspace Embassy you control your group of characters (ALL the characters in the game) on a quest through tons of levels fighting bad guys to save the world. Did I mention that you can have a team of Sonic, Mario, Solid Snake, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and Link to fight the final boss with?

That's right, a platforming/beat 'em up game where you can team up Mario, Sonic, and Solid Snake on one team!!!!

:argue:

Add that on top of the fighting system, on top of the crazy amount of unlockables and the characters and trophies spanning Nintendo's history, plus the mini games, side quests, multiple modes. I've played this game for a ridiculous amount of time, and I'm not even close to finishing the thing all the way through all of the modes (I don't even think I have one of the modes unlocked yet...)

This game is ridiculous.

Think I fixed the problem I had with my phone this morning. It should sound when I get the alert tomorrow morning. Sorry, this isn't important to the draft.

I guess I'll use this post to put in my other unimportant stuff in:

Sweet, I just got an email from Best Buy telling me I got more Reward Zone certificates. I now have $50 saved up! Should I get something now or should I wait? hmmmm?

Bears vs Packers is gonna be good. Can't wait. I think Packers win by 4.

You know what's better than random status updates on Facebook? Random status updates on Footballguys. Amirite?

SlaX found a secret stash of "Brazilian Balls" in Mafia Wars! :argue: "Brazilian Balls"

Sorry, got bored there for a second. Or 10 minutes or however long that was. Edit time says 25 minutes. So I guess 25 minutes.

I prefer melee. My nephew and I played melee for about 6 years. We got Brawl when it first came out and played for about a month before we couldn't stand it anymore. It was too slow and the fighting style too bulky compared to melee. We thought maybe it was the WiiMote, so we used Gamecube controllers but even that didn't change it. Don't really like this game. To each their own though.

That's not a bad idea, actually. Hmmm... what games to get? Isn't Red Dead Redemption also on sale this week? I rented it, but I never bought it. Maybe now is the time to get it.

Doing a good job bro. Wanna finish up Lara Croft tonight? At least with me, I'll understand when you have to take breaks to check the draft.

I think RDR is $39 this week. I got it Black Friday for $29 but still haven't played it yet... to myself
I can't say anything. I still haven't touched Mass Effect 2 because I'm replaying the first one so I can have a save file to start the 2nd one with. But I jump to other games, so I'm only about half-way through the first again. I'm really dying to play the second too. It's sitting on my HDD and I'm not playing it because of that one stupid reason.

Will I be missing out if I get the PS3 version? 2 continues the story from 1, right?

Ouch really. I thought about going back to the first just to get to level 60 before I realized the time it takes to go from 59 to 60 is like an eternity. I remembered why I stopped at 59 then.

Same game. Play it anyway you can. Its awesome.

Riskishi has been thinking for a while.

And now he's gone. Guess it will be a slow night.

I wouldn't let that keep you from playing it. I just wanted the added benefit of continuing the story. I already had the first on 360 and when I bought ME2 on PC, it included the first in the bundle. Of course, I can't transfer my 360 save to my PC, so I have to replay it.

Other than the first hour or so, I don't mind. Once you get to the Citadel and get missions, the game eases me in. But every time I start up, it feels like a chore to get to that point.

Sure
Let me go grab something to eat and you can let me know when. Wife wants to go out. I'm fine with that. I've either stared at the screen or poop all day. (don't ask)

Oh yea the game is fun to just play but the xp to get from 59 to 60 is ridiculous.

Know what other category might've been kind of cool? Best cheat code. The Contra 30 lives code would have been a 1st round pick - maybe first overall.

We are still looking for judges in these categories.

Fifth Generation (1993-2001) - Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Game Boy Color, 3DO, Saturn, Jaguar, PC.

Racing

Fighter

Hack and Slash/Beat 'em Up

Yo Mama and AcerFC agree to a trade:

AcerFC gets - (17.06), (18.08)

Yo Mama gets - (12.09), (25.05)

This will help me shuffle my picks a bit since I won't be around as much on Friday and Saturday.

I suggested Best Console and Best (or Most Innovative) and Worst peripherals. It could even been combined to be Best Hardware category. Even suggested we discuss Best and Worst peripherals during long lulls in between picks. I can understand not having a Best Console category, as that may spawn too many heated arguments.Trivia: The Konami Code was first used in Gradius, but was made popular in Contra. Many make the common mistake of thinking Select is required for the code to work, but Select only selects the 2-Player option.

IDKFA!!!
I would've been lost in that category. Unless you count using an emu, I haven't really used cheat codes since I owned a Game Genie. I've messed around with changing game settings, like gravity, etc. and of course the good ol' NBA Jam Easter Eggs. But other than that, I don't use them. Not since the NES days. And for some of those games, you almost needed them. How else are you gonna survive Silver Surfer?

No ####, my buddy got the new NBA Jam a few weeks back, and the first game we played, I entered ARK as my username, hoping to get Bill Clinton...

I don't know #### for codes. But I can tell you the different frames per second breakpoints on the increased attack speed, fast cate rate, or faster hit recovery on every character in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. And that's just the easy stuff. P.S.

I can't wait for D3!
