Green Bay: Non-football and cheese-related must-see’s? (1 Viewer)

My uncle lives in the Wausau area. He lives on the west side outside of town a mile or so and has a great view of Rib Mountain from his front yard.
I know this is a Green Bay thread but with the talk of Wausau, we went to the 45 90 just west of wausau.  It is 1 of 4 places on the globe where 45 degrees latitude and 90 degrees longitude. Half way between equator and the north pole and half way between prime meridian and 180th meridian.  Cool small park out in a farm field.

Wow, never knew that was there. Will have to check that out when I'm up there next year.

Ended up at the Redwood Inn for dinner per the advice of an Uber driver and a front desk guy. It’s cash only and they’re “protected by the 2nd Amendment.” I’m pretty sure this perch will be awesome.

ps if you have never been here door county is the county literally north of green bay that sticks out in to the lake it is a total tourist trap once you are north of sturgeon bay and has lots of shops restaurants bars etc and should still be hopping in october if the weather holds and fish creek and egg harbor are little towns on the bay side of the county and penninsula state park is between them it has hiking trails lots of pullouts by the bay and water and gives good views of the bay and islands off of the park all of this is a little bit of a drivei think green bay to egg harbor is about an hour and fifteen minutes so someone should stay reasonably sober but its worth it and a fun ride take that to the bank bromigo
What's this now?  Tinder scene?

how was door county bromigo take that to the bank
I ended up spending the day in Egg Harbor. It was perfect weather yesterday for it, too. I opted to pick a place close-ish and just wander around there instead of trying to do too much. I prefer immersion over an overflowing itinerary.

Clearly a tourist area but it was a great day. Spent about an hour at the marina just staring at the water and I’m pretty sure I figured out the universe.

What’s pretty funny to me is whenever the game comes up, I mention that the Steelers aren’t very good and will probably get killed but that’s ok because I’m here for the experience etc etc. And without exception, everyone here is “Oh you never know” or “Rodgers has been up and down you never know” and I want to grab them by the shoulders and shake them “BIG BEN HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT DOWN AND DOWN AND HAVE YOU SEEN OUR ####### LINE AND NOW NO CLAYPOOL” but they’re just so polite and want to make sure I’m not disappointed and want me to go to the positivity bank brohans.

Its the life of a Wisconsin sports fan...we are constantly prepared to be disappointed.

All through the Bucks championship run we all just waited for something to go wrong.  Same will happen with the Brewers in the playoffs.

We are a pessimistic bunch.

Go to Kwik Trip
Award Winning?  See below.

At a Kwik Trip I feel like one of those people Dr. Rick is helping in the Progressive "becoming your parents" commercials.  Thinking how professional the employees are, noting clean restrooms, decent prices for quick food items, etc.  :bag: Wisconsin - Michelin 2 stars.
Link - Proof 🤣

"Kwik Trip Glazer Donuts are among the final four products moving on the Wisconsin Manufacturer’s & Commerce Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest.

Glazers are the number 2 seed in the contest, which is also run by Johnson Financial Group."

hope you enjoyed your trip take that to the bank brohan
@McBokonon How was Lambeau?

Bumping this one up. Headed into GB on Friday afternoon, then out Monday morning. Any updates to good supper clubs for Friday (we have a car) or old style food and drink spots? Expecting to gain at least 9 lbs in 3 days.

This thread already has tons of great recs. Nothing more to add, other than there is a place in Sturgeon Bay called Donny's Glidden Lodge. Supposed to be a real supper club. You won't find many "real supper clubs" in/near Green Bay anymore (in my opinion). Perhaps a current local like @mr. furley can chime in?

I found this list online. Maybe a few gems in there?

Good list!! I’m a traditionalist for supper clubs, and many of these lists include places that are really more steakhouses or supper clubs in name only (eg Union Hotel in DePere WI). Totally defer to folks who are still local. My knowledge is outdated. Place I would have gone historically is River’s Bend, but they closed/changed ownership long ago. No idea if they are a supper club anymore.

would recommend Plae Bistro, Hinterland, Republic Chophouse, Chives, Main Street Bourbon Room for "upscale" local dining.

River St. Pier for dive bar lunch. or Bourbon Street Pub on Broadway. anywhere on Broadway, really, if you want a dive bar atmosphere with locals.

Black Dog White Cat cafe is on that strip as well for a relaxed, casual lunch spot. then head over to Lenny's Tap down the road for some $2 Millers or something.

until now
