Guardians of the Galaxy -- tracking at 100% on RottenTomatoes (1 Viewer)

Also in the vein of favorite boyhood characters finally brought to the screen ---

When will Peter Jackson or someone bring Raistlin to the screen? AmIright?
ummm who?
Raistlin was one of the greatest characters ever written for fantasy books IMO.
Just googled it and never even heard of those books. Thats out of my realm.
really nice set of books (the first 6 specifically).
A well done DL trilogy would be mind-blowing. We need something to cleanse our palate after that disturbingly terrible cartoon movie. :wall:

Dang, reading comments on that article nails it. Tom Hiddleston would be #######g amazing as Raistlin. Sadly, I doubt we will see it in this life.

Sorry, never heard of Dragonlance or Raistlin in my life. Maybe someone should set up a poll lol
Dragonlance is not a pop-culture household name at the present. Then again, neither was A Song of Ice and Fire/A Game of Thrones ten years ago.

Fantasy literature has a scene, but its akin to the comic-book scene, the erstwhile alternative music scene, indy film scene, etc. Many fans of these things -- enough to support some artists financially, even -- but swimming just under the surface of a wider cultural breakthrough.

Why Dragonlance should be the next fantasy film franchise

I got to meet and talk to Tracy Hickman and his wife at last year's Comic-Con here in SLC, very cool. Had him sign my childhood copies of the books. No Margaret Weis.
Wizards should have planned an announcement with the release of 5.0
I honestly believe it would be a cash cow if done well. Cannot believe it hasn't been done yet.
Oh god, the amount of love Tasslehoff would get might be sickening.

I missed that the confusion was over QuiNN vs. QuiLL. I read "Quinn" as "Quill". Thought he only knew the character as "Star Lord" and didn't know who "Quill" was.

My bad :D
I typed QuiLL as QuiNN, and started the whole thing. Please continue with your Friday, nothing to see here....

imo, he would be the key to the movie.

If he is casted correctly, the movie likely works, if the casting sucks, he could easily Jar Jar the movie.

The rest of the characters are pretty easy to cast.

I love the idea of Hiddleston in the Raist role, but I could even see Cumberbatch in that role too.

So I'm 15 minutes into this. Aside from the soundtrack...am I missing something?
OK, gave it 10 more minutes.

Are you guys serious about this? This thing is terrible.
STOP texting in the movie. What kind of ##### does that?
Hint: I'm watching it at home.
So you are watching a CAM of a movie meant to be seen on a big screen (ideally in IMAX 3D) and are complaining about it sucking?

I think there is only one Marvel studio movie in the IMDB top 250 and that is Avengers at #186.

After a healthy 78K votes, GOG is sitting at #34 all time.

It will drop as all movies do, but it has a good chance to finish up as the highest rated Marvel movie yet by the viewers.

As it should

So let me see if I have this right:

This is supposed to be a parody of comic book/super hero movies?

If so, then I think I get why it sucks. If you lampoon something that is already stupid it really doesn't work.*

*see "Spaceballs".
No. Watchman is an ingenious superhero parody (the book, not the film). This is just a less serious, fun, goofy, yet still superhero-themed movie.

People like it because it doesn't take itself as seriously as Batman or even the Avengers. It's superhero-y but makes them laugh a lot. Jackson Pollack spaceship. The great Earth hero Kevin Bacon. Et cetera.

Now I don't think it's as amazing as some people, but as a guy who has a pretty decent sense of taste (*adjusts his monocle*) I'll go on record as saying it's an ok movie. I'll probably take my son to see it again.

And that's the thing for me and comic book movies. It's one of the few great male narratives out there and fathers and sons can bond around them, kinda like sports but with more spandex and crap blowing up. The twelve year old inside me finally gets his dream of all his favorite characters brought to the screen (and done well) and my seven year old son gets to experience them for the first time. He's gotten into comics, He reads the goofy kid versions all the time. One of my guilty pleasures is reading Marvel digital comics in bed at night. Yes, my wife finds this irresistibly sexy of me.

And but also sorry for responding so seriously to your limp-wristed fly cast. I feel much shame.
Not fishing at all.

Didn't see it as a parody but rather tongue in cheek about how silly superhero movies are. Not exactly the same but reminded me of The Fifth Element.

If I have to watch a movie in IMAX 3D for it not to suck then it sucks.

How about at least not watching a ####ty cam version of it then?

Would that change the script? Would the "jokes" fall any less flat if I saw it in IMAX 3D?

The trilogy would be amazing with today's movie technology.

Can you imagine the battle at the High Clerist Tower?

Autumn Twilight - Xak Tsaroth, first encounter of Khisanth, dragonfear... this is what hooked me and would be epic.

wtf is quinn?
Peter Quinn = Quinn = Star Lord

A lot of different promotional material for GoG refers to this one character differently, so there can be confusion.

Same thing happened with the Lord of the Rings, when McDonald's toys, et al, called Aragorn "Strider", which IIRC came from a throwaway line in the movie (maybe was Aragorn was often called "Strider" in Tolkein's books).
Strider was how he was referred to at the start of the books until everyone discovered he was the son of the king.
Also known as Stomper in Bored of the Rings. A true classic.

Like Guardians but thought CA2 was better.

Guardians was funny but the action was mostly a mess. Like a Transformers movie. CA2 had great action pieces worthy in any genre.

What was the point of Howard the Duck at the end? Just something he collected?

That was just really random.

I have to say I prefer my superhero movies more like this and less super serious like the last batman trilogy. This was just fun. That last Batman movie was like taking a 3-hour ####.

I was thinking the same thing, Didn't he say he was going to "get him" or something. I was so thrown off by HtD in a Marvel movie that I didn't catch what he said.

Loved the flick, Most fun I've had at the movies in quite a while.

You do know that HtD is a Marvel character, right?

How young would this be OK for? Thinking of taking my eight year old -- crazy?
If he saw any of the other Marvel Avenger based movies and those were fine for him, this should be too.

No nudity, no sex, handful of light swears and tons of comic book violence.

I saw this yesterday. Not a bad flick at small and certainly much better then the previews have it credit for.

I'm ok with a movie setting up a sequal, but I was a little put off by the fact they basicaly some huge facts at the end that would indicate they would definitely have a sequal.

I. Am. Groot.

We are Groot.

Marvel has become more transparent that everything they do is connected and will have sequels. Probably best to view each installment as an episode in a long story. They can each be enjoyed on their own but mean more if you connect them.

Maybe HtD is sitting on an infinity gem?

There's no point at all except a snicker wink wink from Marvel to their core group of pimply fans.
Absolutely incorrect. Howard has been a mainstay of the cosmic side of Marvels Universe. I don't know if he will get a movie of his own but as the Universe expands we can expect to see him.

:goodposting:

My son makes 8 soon, and there was nothing objectionable at all for him in GoG. What swear words were in the movie, for better or for worse, were swear words my son had already come home with from the schoolyard.

The "comic book violence" could be more of an ethical problem for some families, though that's typically a case-by-case thing IMHO. To me, the violence was far enough within the realm of obvious fantasy that few school-age children would be disturbed.
