HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (4 Viewers)

Fan of the books forever. Don't have HBO but on vacay and watched an episode. Was good and then hard core porn out of the blue. Is this normal for this series?
I missed the hard core.Must be the HBOGO people were talking about.

:penalty: You've been on the intertubz far too long to call that "hard core" Pick.
Two people totally naked going at it isn't hard core?
It's hard to call simulated sex hardcore. Pretty sure the tipping point is actually seeing penetration.

I wouldn't know. :shrug:But it doesn't matter. I'm asking if that is normal for this series.

Yes, there is a lot of simulated sex from many positions and between all manner of people.

I read the books after season one so it's a totally different perspective for me this season. I find myself being more critical of some of the choices they made be it casting(Some mentioned above)or story related(see below). Also in some instances it seemed less "real" and more like people reading lines to me(Sansa especially).

The story for example, I though Maester Cressen should have had a little more back story. They didn't get across how important he was to Stanis, it would have given more weight to his sacrifice. Also thought the Roz part came off as very cheesy. Osha's constant head tilting when she talks is making her character a bit grading to watch.

Mostly just nit picky stuff, it was still very good, just interesting how the perspective totally changed.
For Christ's sake, you're named after CHEESE, you should know it's grating.
Turrible Grammar and spelling are my curse unfortunately :bag:

There's tons of sex in the books, why would the tv series be any different?

 That's party of why the show is so awesome.

Truth. HBO execs know their audience. I've just never watched an HBO TV series before. But from the sounds of it this is the norm for them. The norm being to have a lot of sex and if it's not there to add some and if it is there to make it "better".

What's more disturbing: The sex or the violence?

pretty fond of the oft used "spent his seed" phrase from the books. Need to incorporate that into my life.

"I was in my cups so I spent my seed all over your pillow"

Can someone explain to me the opening scene with the fat 'knight'? I am not getting why he is a knight to begin with and then why he would be in a 'tournament' of whatever sorts it was for the 'name day'.

The best guess I can come up with is that he bought the title as being from a wealthy house and then the 'king' demanded everyone to send a representative to fight in his personal tournament. How off am I?

Dontos is the last surviving member of his family, and worked his way up to knighthood. But he got fat and drunk.Melee and jousting tournaments are common as part of celebrations.

Yes, but aren't they normally voluntary? I have a hard time believing that he volunteered to fight in the tourney.

I think so. But if you want a little glory and gold... Just hope you don't die I guess.

He gained the title of knight when he was much younger. In the book, the tournament was filled with 2nd rate knights and squires because all the "real" knights/fighters were actually fighting in the war or protecting the king. The king takes it as an insult when Ser Dontos is too drunk to joust and orders him drowned in wine. Sansa saves Ser Dontos with the lie about it being bad luck to kill him and then suggesting that he be the king's fool. Fighting in the tournament is voluntary.

Haven't read any of this thread, but wife and I are all caught up on the series. Can someone PM me and let me know if the conversation in here is for those who have read the books and spoilers are being revealed, or is it just for the TV show and spoilers are in tags? Thanks.

In the book, all the decent knights are off fighting in the war. The Hound does not take part because there is no competition. This is a shabby minor league tournament but the Hand's Tourney in Season 1 was poorly done so the difference is not apparent.

I can't imagine how anyone has enough time in the day to read these books.Even if you do have the time, it must be quite a task to let the pages sink in. It's hard enough to remember all the characters on TV.

The book is actually structured such that you can remember the characters pretty easily. Every chapter is named after the POV of the character in the chapter so it isn't like a Hobbit type introduction with 5000 dwarves with similarly sounding names.

Anyone else catch The Next List on CNN today?

The show was about creation of the Dothraki language.

Cnn.com/nextlist may show rebroadcast times.

I just startes reading the series for the third time and it's funny to me that I am noticing things I didn't the first two times. Mostly just the feel of relationships between some of the characters but it's pretty cool regardless. Looking forward to tonights show.

So after this episode we have how many families fighting for the throne...

1) Starks led by Rob

2) Joeffrey

3) Gay Baratheon

4) Serious Baratheon and his witch lady and pirates

5) Dani across the land

Is that it?

Sounds like the Greyjoys are going back after the North. There's also the mysterious king north of the wall and his army's been swelling from stealing Crasters sons. Lots to keep track of.

Good episode, but not as strong as last week. The biggest issue is that things just seem rushed at 10 hours per season. I had no idea Stannis had a wife and that he was trying to be honorable. I just assumed he was with the Priestess officially. I wish there was more time to develop Dragon Stone and the Renly-Tyrell situation.
