Head Coaches in Fantasy leagues (1 Viewer)

One of the leagues I've been a member of for several years has several major changes this year, including the addition of a Head Coach spot to our weekly roster. I was one of a few dissenters on the matter, but it passed and now I have to figure out how to add this into my draft preparations.

Does anyone have experience with Head Coaches in a fantasy format? Where should I be willing to spend a pick on someone? The scoring system works as follows:

[*]Coach receives +1 fantasy point for a 1-4 point team victory, with an extra fantasy point for every 5 additional points scored over an opponent in a victory (maximum of 6 fantasy points for a 25+ point victory)

[*]Coach receives -1 fantasy point for a 1-4 point team loss, with an extra fantasy point lost for every additional 5 point scoring difference in a loss (maximum of -6 for a 25+ point loss)

Off hand, this seems like something that can be done similar to a defense by committee, since the maximum point differential is only 6 points. Would only a fool grab Belichick or Harbaugh early?

I'd draft them right before kicker and play matchups. Half the guys in the league are going to be picking the "no brainers". I'd go with Vegas odds for my weekly pickup

So the max and min a coach can score on a season is 96 and -96 respectively with all falling somewhere in between, so say 50 to -50 realistically?

Someone correct my VBD analysis since its the end of the day, but that kind of puts them right around where defenses should be drafted. Maybe a little ahead?

I am going to piggy back off your question. I am in a league where the HC gets 4 pts for a win and -4 for a loss. There are only 10 teams in the league. I am thinking of just playing match ups all year long and waiting as long as I can to draft a HC. Does that sound right to anyone else?

Those were the same numbers I came up with, just drop week 17. And in my league, we finish in week 15 so the highest potential number of points is only 84. This seems so devalued in the big picture that I can't find myself reaching for a coach under any circumstances. Think I'd rather have a kicker before a coach, honestly. Especially with only 10 teams!

I do like the idea of selecting a coach based on the Vegas lines, hadn't considered using that as a guideline.Looking over the current lines for opening week posted at Vegasinsider:Bears are favored by 6.5 over the ColtsLions are favored by 9.5 over the RamsRavens are favored by 7 over the BengalsAll have coaches which are unlikely to be drafted highly, and can then be dumped for the next best option in week 2.
