Help, haven't been in a plane in a while (1 Viewer)

Flying Spirit Airline.  We are checking a couple large suitcases.

Was wondering what you can carry on as far as bags you don't put in the overhead.  Diaper bag for our 2 year old?  Computer  bag?  Are these things still allowed without having to check them or store them in the overhead?  Can you even use a computer/tablet on plane anymore?  Does it cost anything to bring this stuff?

With spirit everything costs extra. Try not to breathe too much either, air isn't free there.

You can prob go on there website and get better information than here. They'll also have the carryon dimension requirements - well at least most airlines would, maybe Spirit skimps out on the extra words and pictures to save bandwidth on their website.

I flew United a few weeks ago. They allowed 1 carry-on bag (a backpack) plus a personal item. But they wouldn't let me take my computer on board because they considered the computer's bag to be a 2nd bag.

So I took the laptop out of its bag, then stuffed the bag into my backpack, and I was then able to take it all on board.

Well, there is 4 of us, so we shouldn't have that problem.

Really if we are just able to bring on the diaper bag and computer bag we would be fine.  It's a 2 and a half hour flight, so don't really need much more.

The last time I flew Spirit was few years ago, but they charged for any bag that you carried on except for a purse.

Listen dude, you need to go to the website and read the fine print.  Spirit is very transparent about what they allow, and they follow the letter of the law.  It's how they keep things profitable but cheap.  Don't ask the messageboard, go to their website and read.

If you're carrying on, it will be cheaper to arrange for it before you get to the airport.

Good luck!

I did.  Forgive me if I am skeptical about the things they call "free"

Never flown on Spirit, but a close friend of mine told the following story - he was flying on Spirit with two friends, both of whom happened to be doctors.  The air conditioning on the flight wasn't working and at one point, two different passengers needed medical assistance because of the heat.  One of my friend's buddies was at the front of the plane helping a passenger and the other was near the back.  When they asked a flight attendant for water for the sick passengers, she was happy to oblige...for $2 per cup of water.

Enjoy your trip!

spirit is THE WORST.  they charge you for everything.  i was expecting to have to buy a token to take a leak.
Well, 550 bucks round trip for 4 of us, plus whatever it costs for the two large bags, and hopefully the diaper bag and computer bag are free.  I dont care about the drinks or food or whatever it's 2 and a half hours.

Wait, do they charge for the toilet?  I could see that  :toilet:

Sounds awesome.  We'll have to load up on the water before we board.

Easier to deal with less bags when they beat you and drag you off the plane.

Why are you mad at United? You consider it to be a 2nd bag as well.

Spirit sucks the first time that you fly with them since you're not used to being charged for overhead bag, soft drinks etc.  Once you know that, just factor it in when pricing flights.  If Spirit is still significantly cheaper after building in those costs plus a couple of pre-flight drinks, I'd still fly them again.

Exactly.  You know the deal going in.

1. Dont worry about taking your shoes off at security. You dont have to do that anymore.

2. To save money bring cans of soda and water bottles in your carry on.

3. Bring aerosol air freshener in case the plane smells bad.

4. During boarding make sure you stand right up front near the agent. They actually like when you try to have polite conversation with them. They are used to being yelled at.

5. I would put all of my credit cards and ID in the checked baggage so you dont have to worry about losing it.

6. Other passengers probably would like to listen to the tv show you downloaded, so i wouldnt worry about headphones.

7. Recline, recline, recline. Makes the flight much more relaxing.

8. I try to get on the good side of everybody around me on the plane so i usually bring a couple of apps on board with me to pass. Onion rings, olive tray, maybe a nice peppered sausage.

The one and only time I flew a budget airline was a disaster.

We were leaving from Vegas and when our plane arrived at the gate (which was already 45 minutes late), they let the entire crew including the pilots go because I guess they were scheduled to be off work. A half hour later when a new crew for our flight still hadn’t shown up, they realized no crew was scheduled for it and they had to call all of the previous crew back to do one more flight for our trip.

Needless to say when they all came back they looked PISSED at having to come back to work, and rightfully so if you ask me, and all of the attendants were pretty rude and disinterested the whole flight.  And having a pilot be in that state was worrisome too.

And who knows, 30 minutes off work in Vegas of all places was plenty of time to have found a hooker and be doing lines off her ####. We were thankful they all came back to work.

I think #1 is only true if you're Pre Check.

This rule is for those idiots (usually women, not infer in that all women are idiots) that have two bag that are the size of a large duffle bag and a bulging suitcase trying to get them all onboard.  It is hilarious watching them trying to consolidate down too two then, the second the get in the plane to, proceed to take up an entire bin (god forbid a 5” women have anything by her feet).   Rant over.

Flew them once.  Never again.  After they announced preboarding for old people and families with young children I was the only one left to board. Woman next to me got sick from the food she bought on the plane. Went into the bathroom and stayed there...the whole flight...INCLUDING THE LANDING!  I kid you not. Flight attendants were banging on the door and finally told her to hang on as we were landing. When she came out poor thing had shat on her pants. I felt awful for her.

Did i I mention screaming kids because of the pressure change?  Felt like I was in a horror movie.   It’s like the greyhound of the sky but at least on greyhound they don’t charge you for anything larger than a fanny pack.

I fly Spirit often. They are fine. Flights are delayed often, and the seats are small, but it is often substantially cheaper
