For me, it's the lack of respect for truth, for rule of law, for decorum, for rising above pettiness and fear.
Leadership should bring out the best in folks, not incite the worst.
Leadership should encourage folks to higher ideals, to high ethical standards, not the baseness of the current adminsitration.
Leadership should strive to put qualified folks in positions of authority to effect the greatest positive change.
Leadership should not encourage nepotism by putting family members in key leadership roles.
Leadership should foster relationships with folks we share common values with, and should speak firmly and represent our values to those representing regimes with opposing views.
Leadership attempts to embody the highest ethics and behavior, not simply to celebrate that its behavior isn't criminally prosecutable.
The entire Trump administration, nearly from top to bottom, embodies all that I oppose in modern, democratic, ethical and modern leadership. It's banal. It's unethical. It's criminal. It's nepotic. It's base. It is self-serving to a point at which if it's good for Trump, that's all that matters. Call the press the enemy of the people? It's ok it's good for Trump. Insult federal judges based on their critical rulings of Trump, that's OK because it's good for Trump.
The entire concept of country of party, or country over person, or representing American ideals across the world, or leading American's to be better, or setting high standards for those in elected office, or choosing the best among us, or expecting our leadership to know what they're talking about on important issues...all have been lost, in a reality tv leader who knows how to throw red meat to its base, who will in turn ignore any shortcoming of the president.
I don't want Trump to fail. But I will not shrink back from pointing out all the failings of the man as our President. They are numerous, significant, and shameful.
