Heresy talk. Dropping Tom Brady? (1 Viewer)

He's had his run. He ain't what he was, and has been killing me at the position. He's got some tough matchups in the next three weeks (Min, Mia, Pit). Several waiver wire pickup dudes are out shining him this year. Time to cut bait and pick up Watson or Prescott or Bortles (small leagues) for the stretch?

Deshaun? Not to be a #### but he should have been rostered already if not drafted. Even in a small league.

As for Brady, he was on of my keepers. Drafted mahomes late too. Took me one week to make that switch. This past week was the first time I used TB since week 1.

Gronk is back. Flash Gordon is...flashing. Brady's arrow is pointing up.

But I totally understand. If I knew the Brady owner in my league was on this forum and needed some nudging to drop him, because I needed a QB and I have #1 waiver priority, then yeah, I might post something similar.

I’m pretty sure the pats are playing possum this year. They seem to have really limited their use of Gronk by only using him as an offensive weapon when necessary so he will be heathy for the playoffs.

Don't worry, they have the Steelers coming up in a couple weeks.  Brady and Gronk will be up to their old tricks for that one...

Well, in a 4 team league it might be time to drop Brady.

For fantasy purposes it makes sense depending on the size of your league. In 2017 I believe he was #19 ranked QB over 2nd half of the season. Maybe trending that way again?

It all boils down to who you can replace him with.  Any player is replaceable if you have a better option to replace him with.  Brady is typically very consistent so you know what your floor is while typically having a high ceiling.  Guys like you have mentioned are more inconsistent so you may have flashes you also have duds which cost - especially come playoff time.

Is Brady trending down?  Yes......next year he probably is borderline top 12 and could be streamer fodder.  This year he is probably equal to the streamer possibilities on the waiver wire but he will have a higher floor.  So if you need upside to win because you are a big underdog then I have no problem playing the matchups and picking up a riskier play.  If you are favored and just need status quo then I probably keep Brady because I am fairly confident in the floor I am going to get.

I traded him after Week 7 for DeShaun Watson (okay the deal also included my Tyler Lockett for his Davante Adams); but I don't think he is droppable.  However, he is NOT an auto start like he has been for the last decade.  I'd lump him in the same category as Newton, Watson, Rodgers, and Rivers where you would start them MOST of the time but have a steady #2 to play matchups as needed.

Again I think it depends on your league size and maybe even scoring system. I just checked our league... on the season he's ranked 15th among QBs... 19th over last 5 weeks.

I was mildly surprised when I checked our league scoring system - in years past guys like Brady, Rodgers and even Newton were set it and forget it type guys.  This year:

Tier 1 - Mahomes

Tier 2 - Brees, Luck, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Goff

Tier 3 - Newton, Rivers, Cousins, Rodgers, Trubisky,  Watson, Wilson, Brady

Tier 4 - Fitzpatrick, Dalton, Prescott, Wentz, Mayfield, Manning, Stafford, Bortles, Carr, Keenum

then everyone else

What is startling is that Fitzpatrick is roughly equivalent to Brady (ranked 14th among qbs) and Rodgers is sandwiched between Cousins and Trubisky - a far cry from expectations on draft day.

Drop a 40 year old QB with below average passing weapons and is 17th in PPG? Yeah in many leagues he’s droppable.

Below average passing weapons?  What other QB has a first team All-Pro TE and an first team All-Pro WR?
That TE hasn’t been healthy all season and Josh Gordon isn’t landing on any All Pro team any time soon. It’s not 2013 anymore.
