Houston Texans sign DE Mario Williams (1 Viewer)

Good pick or bad pick, people in Houston are so pissed off, I'm hoping to score a good deal on season tix.  As much as I would have liked to see Bush here, I'm still happy with the Texans' off season moves and lord knows we need some defensive pressure on the QB.
I'm more numb than pissed.I feel like a kid at Christmas who was expecting a Deluxe GI Joe with Super Kung Fu grip, but instead got all sweaters.

I guess I think Houston had Bush rated higher but not higher enough to make up for the greater contract demands Bush had. I don't have a problem with them taking Mario if they had him rated that high. My issue is that I think Mario is less likely to reach that high level of special player than Bush is. The lack of consistent production in college for Mario worries me.

But what really is worrying me is that the talk of taking a RB with the next pick, or maybe even trading up today, might be real and not a smoke screen. The only reason I see to have been looking at RB in day 1 was Bush's once-in-a-generation ability. There are too many other good players in this draft to be looking RB other than Bush.
Just wondering if you watched an NC State game in the past 3 years or if you just paid attnetion to last season? I saw everyone of the home games the last 4 seasons and a fair number of away games. I understand Texans fans being dissapointed with them not picking Bush but come on and get over yourselves already.

I am just wondering if you had actually seen Mario play. I bolded the comment I felt was questionable.

If you've seen him pay then you would understand the talen that your team got.

I am just tired of all the crying by Texans fans about not taking Bush. How bout talking about what a talent the player is that you got.

Texan fan here and Footballguy. I love the Mario pick! As they say offense sells tickets and defense wins championships baby! And then again, championships sell tickets too!

I'm confident in Kubiak and the staff he's put together. They are obviously of the Denver school of thought with "we don't need 1st round RB's or linemen to have an effective offense." Our defense was 32nd in the league last year! We needed more help than a part-time RB would give us. Now we've added Winston and Spencer to help out the O'line and hopefully protect David Carr enough this year to see if he is worth a flip.

As I've said in countless other threads, who cares what the fans think, as long as you win games the fans will come. The guys running this team are suppoused to be experts and should know what is going to win us more games. yeah, we at FBG think we know a lot more than most people, but we are afterall posting on a message board, not working int he NFL for a living!

No, I haven't had Mario stand out to where I noticed him in the little bit of NC State football I've seen in his career. My comments are based on the fact I've seen the same thing said in every single scouting report I've read on him, from general articles on ESPN to Scouts Inc and other scouting services. And I'm not sure why you feel the original Texan fan bashing was warranted let alone scooping on some more. Edit to add: But you know, I don't really care. Not even sure why I bothered responding judging by what's been contributed to the discussion so far.

On the Texans draft in general, while the Ryans pick wasn't a bad one, I was shaking my head in disbelief that Justice fell that far and we didn't take him. However the front office ended up redeeming themselves in the long run in my eyes. I'd felt they should come out of rounds 2 and 3 with a tackle (probabyl Winston or McNeil), a guard and then the best player available, preferably cornerback. When they took Ryans I didn't think we'd get a tackle in the third anywhere near what we passed up in Justice. But the way they played it seems to me to have worked out better in the end. Ryans plus Winston and Spencer are probably better overall than Justice, Spencer, and the other defensive players we'd have ended up with in the 3rd.
