Footballguy
so come on guys be honest.... when you read an injury report thread posted a day or two after an injury occurs do you think to yourself "old news buddy"...

when you look at a "what do you think of this trade" thread, do you say to yourself, "does this guy watch football"?

when you're mock drafting and you see a player is reached for way to early do you want to punch a hole thru your monitor in anger (ie: ryan mathews #1 overall in a redraft) and smacktalk him until he leaves the room?

what's your level of arrogance?

me... 4 haha.

I gave myself a 4, but could easily have been a 5. I relish the role of Arrogant *******. The beer is pretty damn good also!

Not as arrogant as I used to be. It took me a while to realize that winning leagues against a bunch of guys who drafted off magazine cheat sheets didn't make me a fantasy "expert".

So I'm probably about a 2.

Not arrogant, just knowledgable and confident in my abilities. Don't get everything right but more often than not I'm on the right path.

I am a humble, silent ninja. I don't talk trash and I don't make fun of how people run their teams. But I am very active, discussing trades, making moves, etc, and I generally find myself with very solid teams.

I have a lot of confidence in my "abilities" (for some reason that made me :D ) too...by doing pretty much what Matt Walman and other people who do this for a living tell me to do. ;)

Think the only time arrogance bugs me is with people who refuse to acknowledge when they are wrong or they repeat the same tired notions over and over.

 at this thread.

We're still talking about fantasy football here guys. I wouldn't say it's a topic that you should pride yourself on knowing a bunch of knowledge on.

 A huge part of fantasy football is being arrogant as it is a game that calls for bashing etc. However, when someone fails to see they messed up big time with a trade or a pick and will defend it even though they know are wrong it is highly annoying.

I must have missed that memo. That's too much work for me these days. I've become lazy.

:banned: I don't get the narcissim with patting yourself on the back and stroking your fragile ego with " I rule at fantasy football, yeah dude!" :tinfoilhat:Edit to Add: No one gives a #### about your team dude!

I know I understand how to build a team, how to work the system, usually how to trade well, and generally how to manage a team.

However, I readily admit that I don't always know who's going to be a future stud vs. bust, always who the sleeper is, or what rookie sensation is going to bust. For practically every DeSean Jackson and Chris Johnson I draft, I get a Matt Jones and Charles Rogers. NFL scouts and GMs get players wrong all the time, so do we.

I also admit that I've made some bonehead trades. Giving Pierre Garcon last year cheap, Steve Smith (Giants) for a little more after acquiring him for a 2nd, trading Aaron Rodgers in a salary cap league, dropping Tom Brady and Antonio Gates... the list goes on.

So I voted 3.

What kind of FBG poll is on a 1-5 scale...with no 7 or 11 option?

New here?

And no "alternative lifestyle" option either?? Good Lord.

You're doing this SO wrong.

4 consecutive winning seasons playing fantasy - went from 5+ leagues, to 10+ leagues, and last 2 years at 18-22+ leagues (redrafts, dynasty, draftmasters). Won around 17k last 2 years, so yeah i think i do ok with this HOBBY(LOL) - tx for the catch Mr. Potato

Some leagues offer more trashing of others teams than others. My leagues which are primarily a lot of good friends it is alomst expected to chirp each others teams. It also makes it easy to do so if you have a league at MFL as it tells you who is on line and the live chat feature really lends itself to my team/players are better than yours type attitude.I always say..... while you are on top you might as well take advantage and let others know how "awesome" you are because especially in redraft leagues the winners can ofter be losers in any given year. If you are going to give though you better expect and be good at taking as well. I can't think of a hobby that allows for as much trash talking as fantasy football. I find it a whole heck of a lot more fun when there is bashing all over the message boards and such, but I am sure that is different for everyone.

One of the things I have come to appreciate is that where knowledge of a subject is concerned, all we humans can ever see clearly is what we already know - never the parts of the subject we don't understand or realize. So we all think we understand at least 80 or 90% of nearly everything, even if we really understand about 10% - because we don't know what's out there that we just don't grasp. Its the human condition.

I would bet that in this thread there are guys who know ten times what I do about FF even after I have been playing for 25 years, and there are guys saying and believing the exact same things about their FF knowledge, who know far less than I do. I think its more how your ego runs than about how broad your knowledge really is that determines your arrogance factor. Realizing that all I can comprehend of FF knowledge is what I know, and that I have no idea of the facts, concepts and truths that I don't see or comprehend keeps me from getting too cocky. Whipping a bunch of guys who pay less attention than I do tells me nothing about how many guys know a lot, lot more - but (happily) aren't in my leagues.

I just think the levels of knowledge and ability are bizarrely different among people who all think they know everything about it.

I make bad & good trades.

I draft above average.

My initial trash talk it lame.

I usually hold my own returning it.

Just part of the entertainment.

I think arrogance actually works against fantasy players, frequently. Just like with NFL front offices and coaches, fantasy owners often let their egos run wild, resulting in contrarian fancy play moves/trades aimed at proving they are the smartest guy in the room. I'm not that arrogant, but I have a pretty good track record. I think for the amount of time and effort I put into this game, my results are pretty good. I'd give myself a 2, because I realize that there are surely many who do better. I'm also sure that luck plays a much bigger factor in results than any highly successful fantasy player cares to admit. This makes arrogance about fantasy sports kind of bizarre.

Further, the reality is that, ignoring luck, and assuming you have at least a decent level of raw intelligence to work with, the biggest factor in fantasy success is commitment. If you are willing to spend enormous amounts of time studying, researching, breaking down tape, and so on, you will very likely be successful in any fantasy sport in the long run. Some people don't want to admit it, but that's what it boils down to: spending a ton of your free time reading about and watching a game you don't play, and avoiding bad luck. To be arrogant and have a huge ego about such a thing is kind of ironic, isn't it?

Yeah, that's kind of a downer. I still love fantasy football, though.

After my dynasty league debocle last season (finished 2nd to last in a league with several guys who are clueless), I was taken down several pegs. I once would have voted as high as 4, but today I voted 1.

I also hate Braylon Edwards.

1. I am overly competitive...have been since I was very young

2. I am pretty good at this hobby....

3. I like to run my mouth a little and bust people's chops....the banter is fun

4. I do my homework and use the rules, roster size, scoring and starting lineup requirements/restrictions to my advantage better than most of my leaguemates.....

5. I know it's just fantasy football, but I take some pride in being good at it...

the above lends itself to what some of my leaguemates might call arrogance, but to me it is just having a good time......however...

much of that perceived arrogance could actually be attributed to my leaguemates....in some ways it is their fault.....the skill level in my local leagues is probably about average to above average, we have a mixture of talent... since I am usually pretty good and I talk a little crap, I have become everybody's "big game"...the ol' circle it on the schedule game.....if most of them knew they were only going to win one game during the upcoming year, they would say they wanted it to be against me....my teams are always competitive even if hurt by injuries, etc, I keep plugging away and find a way to make the playoffs....I am usually ahead of the curve and my leaguemates know this, so almost every pick/move I make is watched and scrutinized.....I think I have made some of them have to improve their game.....so the combination of these dynamics lends itself to a little arrogance, and quite honestly I am perfectly fine with kind of taking on the role of league villian......it is actually a compliment in many ways....

but I also know I haven't really competed much against the big dogs that frequent a site like this....so while I may be the bully on my playground and I am pretty confident in my abilities....I know my game can always get better........

1st of all, you shouldn't even be allowed to vote unless you have 3 digits or less in your member number.
I'd say only the first 250 know anything.. after that, everyone is dumb as nails until we get into the 40100+ member range... Draft Domintor is all over that dropoff.
