How did Denver dominate this draft AGAIN? (1 Viewer)

My broncos have manupilated everyone in this years draft. They goth their main target in Jay Cutler, and also picked up their need in the WR spot. How does Shannahan do it? They only got rid of their 15th and 68th for the 11th, and gave up their 37th for JAVON WALKER! These Broncos are something special. They always seem to do whats right. My question is, who wins the AFC West? Cheifs make a run at them? Chagers pull the upset? Raiders come from Mexico City to win it?

:corrected:But, point taken and given - I think the Broncos maneuvered magnificently before and during this draft.

The whole thing hinges on Cutler. If he's the next Kyle Boller then you'll be singing a different tune.

Broncos drafted for the future today - Cutler won't make an impact this year (15th and 68th picks), and Walker is going to get #1 overall money if he shows he's healthy.

Not the bounty that it appears to be on the surface. Hope Shanny enjoys negotiating that contract with a WR demanding $10MM up front coming off of an ACL.

You are aware Mario Williams got $26.5m in guarantees, right?

Slight hyperbole.

I'm very happy with their draft so far, but I think it's a reach to say they always do what's right. As with all teams, they have made some bad moves.

For instance, if they'd done what was right three years ago, they wouldn't have had to trade for Javon today, because they'd already have him. They took Lelie right before the Packers took Walker.

not sure walker will be 100% this year.
As a physician, his actual knee is 100%. But psychologically he may not be there, confidence, etc.But as a professional athlete, I assume he should be ready to go mentally!

do you think they can draft Clarrett again?

Walker should be fairly close to his old self by the end of the year. So that's not looking too far ahead. Its faster than waiting for a rookie WR to develope.

I've never liked Jake Plummer. Even when they signed him, it was like they did it because he was the only available FA who they felt was good enough to start for them. I'm surprised its taken this long for them to bring in a quality young QB. While it is looking to the future, I wouldnt be surprised if Cutler wins the job over Plummer during 2007's training camp.

For a team that has been up against the cap, can they afford to carry Cutler's large cap number for too long before making him the man? See Rivers, Philip.

Like drafting maurice clarett in the 3rd round? Bravo.

They had a bad 3rd round pick. They really suck. :X

I highly doubt they spend a high 2nd rounder on him if they weren't confident his knee is/will be fine.

Like drafting maurice clarett in the 3rd round? and not actually paying him any money in case he busted out Bravo.

you're some serious homers!

what a great draft so far:

a QB from vanderbilt. he was the only from vandy at the combine, what a surprise! has a strong arm, but has trouble with accuracy. sounds like boller to me.

then they trade a #2 for a WR with ADD, a lousy attitude, coming off a major injury, and a free agent next year. i think they got taken.

I prefer the job the Jets did.

So the fact that they threw a fairly valuable pick in the toilet doesn't bother you because they didn't pay any money for it? I can see how that would make the pain more endurable, but I'm not sure I would applaud that.

They took a chance and it backfired--it happens.

well said-i think they messed up big time!

It was a compensatory pick and they reached the AFC championship game despite the Clarett pick - so, no I am not to worried about the missed opportunity

It's a wonder they ever a lose with the way they draft! I wouldn't mind having Shanny draft for MY team. But maybe I'll have someone ELSE coach them! :banned:

Well at least they didn't try drafting a WR, we know that they #### that up every year  . Great draft so far overall, Cutler is going in to the perfect situation  I'm really interested in tommorow's 4th round, there is still some good players left, and we got 3 picks

If I thought Jay Cutler wasn't destined to be a total bust, I would have to say the Broncos had a masterful draft. But since I honestly believe Cutler is nothing more than backup fodder in the league, the Broncs get a solid "B."

Being I had two semesters of Bio in college my professional opinion is that his knee is not 100% and that it wont be 100% for a couple of months.

I'm with Wood on this one.

Denver's draft brings to mind the Suggs/Boller Baltimore draft of a few years back. Walker will impact, but it will be a flop if Cutler fails.

What do you mean by AGAIN? What was the name of that RB from THE Ohio State that they drafted last year? Oh yeah he made the HOF ALREADY. Come back in 3-4 years then tell me how good or bad they did.

The 37th and 68th may sound like they were giving up chump change but in reality those players(Jimmy Williams and Claude Wroten) are very highly regarded prospects that could very well turn out to be steal for their draft position. Plus Scheffler seems like a big reach to me.I think Gunz makes a good point in that this was a good draft for DEN but doesn't pay immediate dividends. I honestly felt SD improved their team more today then DEN despite SD drafting Whitehurst with other good prospects on the board but hey, I am a homer.

Agreed. Lofa Tatupu was taken with the 45th pick last year. It's a mistake to simply dismiss a 2nd round pick as chump change.

When I think of the NFL analysts that know QBs, one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. That analyst is VERY high on Cutler. That's all I need to know. So, I defer the evaluation of Cutler to him.“It’s not my decision, obviously. It’s a tough decision,” Jaworski said. “I have studied all the quarterbacks, and I like [Jay] Cutler the best of them.”

Simply amazing how Shanny worked like a surgeon. Dove Valley was electric after the Cutler pick.

Shanny waited to have a press conference until after the end of the 2nd round. He was beaming and I had some post-conference words with him. He's very excited about Cutler and is bringing him in to compete and push Plummer. More than likely we won't see Cutler until '07, but I thought it was interesting how he phrased that statement.

Got to interview Cutler today and am meeting him tomorrow. :excited:

Also, the Broncos were trying to deal Lelie to the Buccaneers for the #59 pick. Deal never materialized.

Bring on Day 2!

Am I the only one that thinks Denver didn't have to trade up to get Cutler?

St Louis didn't want him (otherwise they wouldn't have traded)

Baltimore? Doesn't look like it, looks like they were praying for Ngata

Cleveland, No

Philly, no

It would of been genius to wait and take the slight risk of someone else trading up. Then they would get an A. No one expected them to take Cutler so I don't think any teams targeting Cutler would of felt the need to jump infront of Denver.

Its amazing to me that the general consensus is that Mike Shanahan is a below-average GM. It seems pretty clear to me that he's one of the top-10 guys in the league. Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly not far behind.

They traded up to take Cutler? Are you kidding me? They were afraid of the Rams taking him? That was well played by the Rams. Denver better have a nice 2nd day, because so far they have not really helped their team. Relying on a WR asking for major money but coming off an ACL tear is officially shaky ground to stand on. Who here doesnt know that the year after a knee injury is never the highlight year of a player's career?? Dominating ?......Im not seeing that.

If I were a Denver fan, I would be extremely disappointed about the draft so far. The Broncos did such a great job maneuvering themselves into better and better positions in the draft. After going deep into the playoffs last year, I would have been hoping for the picks that take my team to the next level. Instead, the Broncos used all of their improved draft picks on a QB who probably won't play this year and a WR who is coming off an ACL injury. Which means they'll be about the same team they were last year, except a year older and without Mike Anderson.

Oh, I am terribly sorry that we took a risk on Maurice Clarret. His upside was very high, and if he busted, we could have just released him. And that is exactly what we did. RB isnt a need for us anymore, anyone can rush for 1000 yds in the Broncos system. Just ask Ron Dayne (NY's leftovers) who is going to turn out to be much better than everyone is saying. You have no clue what you are saying. Notable picks; Terrell Davis, Olandis Gary, Clinton Portis (2nd Round) and he turned out to be pretty good right? Darent Willaims is going to be a superstar DB in this league, so can you just never talk again?

I think you are missing some other notables there sport. Either way, you are happy and that is all that matters. You can certainly justify the BRONCOS RULE! sticker on your Trapper Keeper.
