How Do You Change Rules/Starting Req's in a Dynatsy League? (1 Viewer)

We transitioned from a redraft to a dynasty about 6 years ago. The final year of the redraft we got to keep 2 players and then we had a draft to set up the dynasty leagues.

So right now it's start 2 QB AND 6 pts/TD. So QB heavy scoring and start 2. Obviously we all knew this going in, but it has become apparent that this is a gross over-valuation. It's also non-PPR and no return yardage.

understandably, most want to make the QB less important, but there is one team in particular who is so stacked, and mortgaged his team to get there, that he is reaping the rewards. We don't want to screw owners over by changing the rules when they have planned for/built based on the rules, but most of us feel something needs to change.

Do you announce a rule change of this level several years in advance? Is it even that possible to change something like this in a dynasty league? How have you handled this?

Change to 1 point per 20 yards passing instead of per 10 yards passing and/or start 1 QB.

League vote. New rules start next year.

If he cries, he cries.

Gotta give at least one season's notice (so no changes made now could go into effect until 2014 at the earliest). I'd also make the threshold for changes ridiculously high- (at least 75%'of league owners). Changes can be made immediately with unanimous consent.

In the dynasty leagues I'm in, changes to the rules are announced before the beginning of the season or during the season before, giving everyone a full set of drafts (rookie and auction) and offseason to work trades or adjust their roster. By this point in the season there usually aren't rules added unless its a glaring need, usually some hole in the rules. For instance, the league wasn't set to automatically adjust for the stat changes that came out later in the week, but the commish decided (and league agreed) that correct stats are correct stats.

For your league in particular, maybe a compromise could be removing the 2nd QB for a superflex (QB/RB/WR/TE) as as a transition to removing the 2nd QB all together?

I would be opposed to making such a change in a Dynasty league. Everyone knew the rules at the outset, and now, after one team has played within the rules to build his team to gain an advantage, you want to remove his advantage? Any such rule which changes the league format should require a unanimous vote. I would search for some sort of a compromise. You want to preserve the longevity of the league which is now at stake without punishing an owner who has played within the rules, mortgaged his future and perhaps even conceded prior seasons and entry fees to earn his advantage. Even an owner with a decided advantage should recognize the value in protecting the league's existence; after all, he has no advantage if the league disbands. Perhaps the only reasonable alternative is to begin next season from scratch with agreed-upon rules and an entirely new draft.
