This is sad. And inevitable given the way they approached it.

I don't even think bubbles work. This thing seems to want to get smuggled into permeable bubbles.

We are up to 4 sports leagues now where bubbles appear to work tremendously well.

I guess so. Are you including the NBA and NHL? Because I'm not really sold yet. The European soccer leagues seem to be doing well, but that's soccer and Europe, two things that are huge variables in the equation.

If I go to the heart of the matter instead of debating around it, I'm really not sure how bubbles could work for the NFL and MLB given the amount of staff and rigid adherence to the bubble that is required for both sports, though.

Funny thing is, baseball was the one sport everyone thought would do well due to the natural distancing versus other sports. Doesn't bode well for the NFL.

doubt these players are getting infected on the field. Its going out, in the clubhouse, in the locker rooms, on the bus, etc

Works as well as letting Joe Q Public decide whether to wear a mask or not.
I mean if the players don't want a bubble thats kind of a non-starter no? Its either attempt a season without a bubble or there is no season. The first might lead to a cancelled season anyway.

MLS has been in a bubble with no issues.

Right. Probably should have been "soccer or Europe." The point generally stands. The MLB and NFL have staffs that are not conducive to bubbles. I know you're an optimist about the year, so it doesn't seem to be worth us debating the pessimism/optimism part of it. The bubble needed won't be in place. The unions would have to consent to it. So far, it doesn't sound like any contingency plan has been made in either league.

It appears bubbles work tremendously well. If MLB and the players decide not to go that route they just don’t want to play, period.

Put the west divisions in LA, central in Chicago and East in NYC. Two mlb stadiums in each city, easy peasy.

NHL rosters are close to the size of MLB and have no problems. NFL could do essentially 32 bubbles keeping players at local hotels. It sucks but if everybody wants their money they better bubble up.

Soccer and hockey has just as many people as baseball - MLB could have done a bubble. I agree NFL is more of a problem to hold it "in a bubble". I am losing my optimism for the NFL season - unless they go into it knowing players are going to get sick and get better and just allow it to happen.

I don't disagree. The question is will they?

Average nfl career is 2.5 years. They’re gonna bubble up. They need that money.
Huh. I will take it under advisement. Again, I don't disagree. It just seems like all signs are pointing the wrong way for that to happen. But they do need that money.
