It’s their playoffs - families are allowed in for the teams that make round 2.How do the bubbles work exactly? I haven't been following the NBA.
Is every single player not seeing their families for the whole season?
That sounds really counterproductive and crazy. Is that true? It’s their playoffs - families are allowed in for the teams that make round 2.
Hockey only has to play playoffs. Not full seasons then playoffs. Hard to convince players to be away from families for 5 months. Its just sports not war.Hockey took 28 or 30 players per team to their bubble. Same as MLB rosters. NFL would have to do local bubbles.
Indeed. Think early September they can come in? So for teams that made it that far, 6-7 weeks without. That sounds really counterproductive and crazy. Is that true?
They can definitely say no and it would definitely be understandable and probably the way to go. Players would have to balance the money vs what they miss out on.Hockey only has to play playoffs. Yeah I guess more 4 months than 5. I wish they would as I'd love to see a full season but I'm not gonna judge players for not wanting to be away from their families if that's not what they want to do.They can definitely say no and it would definitely be understandable and probably the way to go. Players would have to balance the money vs what they miss out on.
And for baseball it would be 3 months. I get your point but some will find that not to be impossible. I’m sure quite a lot of them don’t have wives or kids yet.
Yes and I think it’s a low risk that elite athletes are going to have any serious repercussions if they do catch itYou realize its not about their ability to play but their ability to spread the virus to others, right?
So its not possible for the players to spread it to non-elite athletes? You think the governors will keep allowing baseball to be played of these players are knowingly spreading this virus? Have some common sense.Yes and I think it’s a low risk that elite athletes are going to have any serious repercussions if they do catch it
Dude come on. This isn’t the case and it’s not going to be allowed to happen. Nonsensical.Yes and I think it’s a low risk that elite athletes are going to have any serious repercussions if they do catch it
Jeez Dan, how dare you have an opinion that isn't in lockstep with the terror your overlords have insisted you live with? I mean, fearing the worst possible outcome is just good common sense, right?Yes and I think it’s a low risk that elite athletes are going to have any serious repercussions if they do catch it
As shady just said, one pitcher already caught it and has a serious heart condition being exasperated or caused by it. So sure, no elite athlete will get hurt by it. It’s a big conspiracy caused by the deep state and Dr. Fraudchi. Play ball baby.Jeez Dan, how dare you have an opinion that isn't in lockstep with the terror your overlords have insisted you live with? I mean, fearing the worst possible outcome is just good common sense, right?
The governor's are allowing protests. Common sense stopped applying decades ago.So its not possible for the players to spread it to non-elite athletes? You think the governors will keep allowing baseball to be played of these players are knowingly spreading this virus? Have some common sense.
Are you going outside? To stores? Take out at restaurants? Your kids playing with other kids, at all? We're all assuming some risk here. And we're all going to get it sooner or later anyway, or it's going to burn itself out. Thinking otherwise is a joke at this point. As shady just said, one pitcher already caught it and has a serious heart condition being exasperated or caused by it. Yes. No. Yes (curbside only, not going in). No. I’m really not assuming any risk at all.Are you going outside? To stores? Take out at restaurants? Your kids playing with other kids, at all? We're all assuming some risk here.
Hint: The right to play baseball isn’t protected by the first amendment. The governor's are allowing protests. Common sense stopped applying decades ago.
Then I applaud you for living out your stance, sincerely. I just disagree with your level of concern. At what point will you assume any level of risk? Never?Yes. No. Yes. No. I’m really not assuming any risk at all.
Also there are pretty substantial difference between taking walks around the neighborhood and sitting in a locker room with 30 other guys though.
I have no idea. I’m in a state that’s currently melting down from the virus so probably not till 2021.Then I applaud you for living out your stance, sincerely. I just disagree with your level of concern. At what point will you assume any level of risk? Never?
Fair enough. I live in a county where there have been only 7 "covid deaths." One was a lady who died of a stroke. She was tested after death and found to have Covid.I have no idea. I’m in a state that’s currently melting down from the virus so probably not till 2021.
The players didnt agree to KEEP PLAYING WHILE POSITIVEAre you going outside? To stores? Take out at restaurants? Your kids playing with other kids, at all? We're all assuming some risk here. The players agreed to this risk. No one's making them take it.
you do realize the OP was advocating players keep playing while positive right? Then I applaud you for living out your stance, sincerely. I just disagree with your level of concern. At what point will you assume any level of risk? Never?
And it's levels of debate, but walking around your neighborhood assumes some level or risk. So does the take out food. Just sayin.![]()
Not my point. Jeez, relax. They agreed to assume some level of risk. Dan's theory is they should assume more. He's entitled to that opinion. The players didnt agree to KEEP PLAYING WHILE POSITIVE
So your defense of Dan is to move the goalposts to a different point. GotchaNot my point. Jeez, relax. They agreed to assume some level of risk. Dan's theory is they should assume more. He's entitled to that opinion.

My defense of Dan is that he shouldn't be attacked for having a different opinion than you. And that you aren't the arbiter of what common sense is.It’s not being twisted massively for the areas that are having outbreaks - stop watching the national news of you think it’s being overblown. I doubt your local news is melting down about things, right?Fair enough. I live in a county where there have been only 7 "covid deaths." One was a lady who died of a stroke. She was tested after death and found to have Covid.
The other 6 are all from the same care facility. ALL 6, per the spokesperson for the facility, were on hospice (i.e. dying) before the pandemic from other health issues and finally died.
I am of the opinion this thing is being massively twisted. I'm not saying I know what's real, or that any of us do, when it comes to Covid. I'm saying what we're being fed ain't it. I'm not going to give in the panic porn based on that.
And the teams playing against them so 6Marlins, Cardinals, Phillies.
Correct. That is where I'm getting my info - local news. Don't watch national news. I do participate in this forum though. Not hard to see the effect of what I am saying. It’s not being twisted massively for the areas that are having outbreaks - stop watching the national news of you think it’s being overblown. I’m in Florida so yes if I were in the Dakotas or something I probably wouldn’t be focused on it. Here however, you kind of have to assume everybody has it and adjust accordingly.Correct. Eta: I am on Twitter though. Almost impossible to escape the topic there.
This is true. I'm in a smaller town with less overall impact. I need to remind myself that others don't react like someone in my county would. By the same token, not all areas should be expected to react like a person in an area like yours.I’m in Florida so yes if I were in the Dakotas or something I probably wouldn’t be focused on it. I will say despite Manfred's bravado today I'm feeling pretty good about playing the no here. The more cases that pop the more the vocal public sentiment will build to shut it down.At BetOnline, REALLY tempted to max the "No" at this point. Thoughts?
Will there be a World Series in 2020?
Yes -450
No +275
Isn't there something in there about the right to bear bats?Hint: The right to play baseball isn’t protected by the first amendment.
The whole thing is a joke. There was no plan in place and now they're just winging it.So why do the cards get to play after having 3 guys test positive but the Phillies get kicked for over a week for playing the dirty marlins? Phillies have had no players test positive this week? Wtf is that? What a joke
Cards DH on Sunday was just postponedSo why do the cards get to play after having 3 guys test positive but the Phillies get kicked for over a week for playing the dirty marlins? Phillies have had no players test positive this week? Wtf is that? What a joke
Right but why did the phillies have to wait a week? WtfCards DH on Sunday was just postponed
I thought he said yesterday he would shut things down if there was no improvementGood lord Manfred is such a loser.
"I am not a quitter"
Its not about quitting you doofus. Its about having a plan and holding everyone accountable to that plan. And as the leader of the sport, you haven't done that.
What an absolute dope. Tone deaf and absolutely no leadership skills out of that guy. Complete empty suit.
He really is bad. Hard to believe they’re just making it up as they go.Good lord Manfred is such a loser.

Players are definitely screwing up but extra innings rule made up on the fly, no plan for made up games and the late addition to the playoffs just screams clown show. The Rays, a team not involved with covid at all (so far) just had their schedule adjusted this week to accommodate somebody else. It’s insane.Manfred sounds like an idiot, but what protocols did the union sign off on? Did they agree not to visit strip clubs en mass (Marlins)? Did they agree not to go to casinos en mass (Cards)? He's trying to salvage something the players effed up. He didn't create this, he's trying to ramrod the results through. Most times the owners get a pass and the players get vilified in labor disputes. In this case the players should be getting roasted over the coals.
That's all fine. Manfred is not the one making it rain or having Indian casino blackjack parties. The rules don't matter one bit if the season gets cancelled because the players can't keep it (any of it) in their pants for 90 days.Players are definitely screwing up but extra innings rule made up on the fly, no plan for made up games and the late addition to the playoffs just screams clown show.
