How I Met Your Mother (2 Viewers)

Seasons 1 through 3 were money...with each episode since then it just gets worse and worse...i would be surprised if it made it through another season

Agreed. They just need to find the mother and end the show.I could see it ending with Ted finally finding the mom, Barney and Robin get back together and Marshall and Lilly having a baby

I only caught random parts of episodes when they aired the first time and always sort of though of it as "that show that came on the same night as Big Bang Theory", but I've caught about all of the episodes now that it's syndicated all over the place. Boy, has my opinion changed. This show is really fantastic. I think it's funnier than anything on TV now, with the possible exception of Modern Family. One of the amazing parts of the show is that it has 5 main characters and I'd really have a hard time picking my favorite (though my least favorite would be a fairly easy choice with Ted, though he's still pretty funny). They all really shine when called upon. Contrary to what some have mentioned here, I think Robin is really funny. I probably shouldn't still find the Canada schtick as funny as I do, but I can't help it.

I think that Seinfeld is a good comparison. Actually that's probably what the writers were going for. A group of friends who meet up at the same place frequently. The show revolves around the main character but it's the other characters that make the show. The main character goes through gorgeous girls week after week, many being recognizable stars from other TV shows.

At this point, I couldn't care less about the Mother. Every time they have a show that mentions it I want to turn it off and hope it was just a one-off plotline and it won't corrupt other episodes.
 
OK, how many people spotted the countdown in the episode? The episode counts down from 50, finishing right before Lily breaks the Bad News.

And I love it. It's what made Scrubs and MASH two of the best of all time, for example. That emotional hook that comes from some of the depressing lows makes the comedy highs that much funnier in the long run.But I will say that it doesn't work for every comedy.
 
Wife and I were watching the countdown totally assuming it was going to lead to Lilly announcing she was preggers.... We weren't ready for the twist.

Yeah, I guess I don't mind it (actually, I like it a lot) when it's used consistently like in those two shows. I'm bothered by it in shows like this, though, where the drama comes out of the blue and they end the episode with it.

Scrubs was awesome...so many great episodes like that one.
 
I didn't notice the countdown until the 2nd time ( :bag: ) I watched it.

This show is right up there with Seinfeld IMO.

It helps us to identify with the characters, makes them more real which makes the show better. Like it or hate it, I thought Friends did this pretty well too.
 
I only noticed the 36,26 and 6 the first time around...wasnt sure what it meant but assumed there would be some sort of devil child announcement.

I liked that show and don't remember that.I don't mind the idea of showing us an emotional side but I found Barney and Ted's "make him laugh" routine annoying. Robin was actually decent and I love Lilly. Here's hoping next epidode is good old fashioned hilarity.

Nope. Ted meets the mother at a wedding where he is the best man. This was said in the first episode this season. The writers wanted to end the guessing game of "is this girl the mother?"
