How I Met Your Mother (1 Viewer)

Solid penultimate episode IMO. If they knock it out of the park with the finale, they can salvage the past 2 seasons.
Sadly, I think this type of pattern is going to become more common for sitcoms. Office pretty much suffered the same fate, 2 bad seasons but then nailed the finale.

Not sure how they can knock it out of the park at this point....but going in with an open mind. - they love the head fake so the fact that they essentially threw the mom is dead theory right out there a few episodes ago makes me think it does not happen....

There are still a few loose ends they never tied up, aren't there? By "loose ends", I mean some of narrator Ted's "that's a story for another time" items. I think there is at least one story about the goat, and I don't think they ever told us the pineapple story. Probably a bunch of others, too?

I'll assume Ted talks to his kids more than 30 minutes a week.

Now that the actress playing his daughter is 27, can safely say that she's super hot. http://how-i-met-your-mother.wikia.com/wiki/Lyndsy_Fonseca

Seems odd that so many chime in here on how terrible the show is yet you keep watching it. What gives? Usually when I think a show sucks I find something better to do with my time.

Check out The Walking Dead thread. It's not just this show. I don't understand it either.

Most agree that it's really only been this season that's not very good. And when you've watched for 8 years, hard to quit cold turkey without seeing it through.

This. This show used to be fantastic. Then it slid into decent. Now its a shadow of its former self... but I still want to see how it ends.

I still enjoy this show. I've definitely abandoned ship on The Walking Dead. I am very guilty of hate-watching the last couple seasons of Dexter though.

The only show that I've ever REALLY been into, that I quit cold turkey was "The Killing".. when they ####ed with everybody by not revealing who killed Rosie in the finale and then claimed

"Well, we never said we'd reveal who the killer was THIS season"... I was out..

That being said, I'll be sad and happy at the same time when this show wraps up...

It's one of my all time fav's and i'll miss it.. but it's time.

Because guys on the internet feel their plot lines and way of writing would be superior.

Works like that for many shows.

While there's definitely some of that going on, it's more the case that it's clear the writers ran out of interesting chapters to the story.

It's not MMQB'ing as much as it's just a reality of the TV industry. A really good piece of work will be driven into the ground more often than not.

Because guys people who live their lives on the internet World Wide Web (www) feel that their plot lines and way of writing would be far superior.

It Wworks like that for many popular television shows.
fixed

So Marshall and Lilly story line is pretty much done

Robin and Barney go through with the wedding...despite one last dip in the same dry well with ted and Robin - did like the ring bear though - not that I never noticed before but man is Robin flat...that wedding dress did nothing for her! I thought she was so hot the first few season but she really went down hill - seems like the show went out of its way to make her look unattractive.

So last episode should be all about Ted and the mother....about darn time....once again the mom nailed it last episode....the writers/creators really blew it on their under use of her....there is great chemistry there and she makes Ted much more likeable...should have had her as a major character the entire season rather than a bit player.

Finally does she live or die....can't see them ending the series on such a bummer....I'm going with illness but she pulls through - and maybe the kids dont even know about how serious it is which is why they acted so bored.....either way looking forward to the finale but not expecting it to be a great one.
THIS

The Bob Sagat voice is telling the kids something about first meeting the mother..... he starts to break up a little bit.... then the sound of a door....door opens....mother walks in.....flashes the camera a relieved look.....Sagatvoice gets happy and says "and that kids...is how I met your mother".

FIN

So last week was the wedding. This week...? Recepetion? I see a small problem. From the finale 2 years ago, we're led to believe that Ted doesn't meet Mom until they're both at the train station (and maybe not even then as they were a distance apart on the platform)

Yep. Guess he could see her at the wedding but not be able to talk to her for whatever reason, leading to "meeting" at the station.

But I'm forgetting...isn't the mother at the wedding because Rachel Bilson's character told Ted about her old roommate's band? So he should be thinking already of how this is the most perfect girl ever for him, so you'd think he'd make it a point to meet her ASAP.

Yeah, I brought that up many pages ago. That's the one big flaw.

I think I even asked you about it

Best Burger in NY will always be my favorite. Everyone describing what they'd do to the burger, and Marshall's monologue on its greatness..."Flavors mingling in a seductive pas de duex" kills me every time.

Bummed to see Swarley didn't make the list. Was one of my personal favorites.
I could easily make an entire top 10 out of episodes they skipped, and not feel too choked up over it.

I'm a big fan of his #2, Ten Sessions...but my favorite part is when Barney tricks Ted into growing a mustache to win a meaningless bet from a year ago. In response to "You ruined my second to last session with her for $10!", his delivery of "I know, I would have done it for FREE!" literally knocks me off the couch laughing.

So I assume in the finale we'll have one more "wait should Robin and Ted be together" moment because we haven't quite beaten that horse to death yet?
I really thought we were done with those when that weird episode of Robin floating away happened about a month ago. Guess they needed to go to the well one more time. Other than that, was a pretty solid episode. Will be interesting to see how they wrap it all up next week.
The last 2 seasons they've been pounding on the theme of how much more Ted understands and cares about Robin's feelings than Barney. Ted understands her and is always coming through for her while Barney is not. Then I think of that episode where Marshall and Lily have that "long term bet" of whether or not Ted and Robin end up together. At the end of that one Lily (who bets they will NOT end up together) says "pay up", and Marshall smiles and says "not yet". So no, I don't think they're done.

Here's my theory...Ted marries The Mother, but she does get sick and dies. Robin and Barney get divorced, because let's face it, Barney will be a terrible husband.

In 2030, Ted and Robin are both ready to move with each other, which Ted is about to reveal to the kids (we know at this point she's only "aunt Robin").

I don't want them to end up together, but I have a feeling that somehow they will. I feel like they've been foreshadowing it forever. :oldunsure:

i can see this

I get trying to dissect shows like LOST and stuff...but man some of you are getting way too into theories about the ending of a sitcom.

... seems like the show went out of its way to make her look unattractive.
It's the haircut. At some point she went from actual long hair to some kind of shoulder length semi-mullet. All over.

They've had at least 8 episodes of pure filler and ignored a new character who could really have breathed some life into this thing.

I'll admit, I too love & hate this show. The last 2 season's have been painfully awful, yet I've continued to watch in hopes of the payoff. This year's episodes all taking place in 48-hours is not too enticing.

I'm most curious to find out if there will be any spinoffs from this. Clearly the big-3 won't be back, but I could easily see Ted & his family now in their own little show.

Get the grown up daughter a show. We'll watch. ?

It won't have any of the same cast. Bays and Thomas will be involved, and I assume they'll be hanging out in a bar that's probably called McLaren's (I assume a table is opening up).

It'll have Greta Gerwig as Sally (new Ted). Big indie film girl and also played Natalie Portman and Mindy Kaling's roommate in one of those friends with benefits kind of movies ("There's a crime scene in my pants").

The Indian chick from "The Internship" was just cast as one of her friends.

Guessing they set this one up with the second MacLaren's in the mother-centric episode.

with 15 minutes left I was thinking.. idiot writers are going to have Ted & Robin end up getting married after all ... then the wedding finally happened and I thought good... and then the sickness happened and I thought... no they didn't kill her off... did they?

They handled the death of the mom as "gently" as could be and the kids pushing him to date their "aunt" is a little creepy :oldunsure:

going to have to digest this for a bit to decide what I think of the ending..

The thing that made me mad was people called this on here months ago. I was hoping they were wrong. The finale was everything I didn't want it to be. Was calling things out to my wife before they were happening. Too predictable
