A number of times over the years, I went to salons or high-end local places. My experience is that there was little to no difference between the cuts I got and the ones I got at say, Sport Clips. The chain places, you just need to find someone that does a good job and make appointments with her and then hope she doesn't find a better job.I'm mildly shocked to read so many are going to chain barbers. I thought for sure the super elite upper tier guys would be going to local shops only.
I don't believe his comment was for you EG. Nor was he confused on the definition.I'm very highly educated, I have the best words.
(In the mother of all ironies, I'd wager our president has no idea what this word means.)
Me too but since I'm bald I go the lowest possible setting, no guard, once a week.Just me and my Braun clippers. #4 setting every 2 weeks.

Nope just trying to paint a complete picture here. Some of the self cutters aren't bald either. All you make pattern bald dudes, we get it you cut the sides and back of your head yourself. This thread is really about those of us with full heads of hair.
Funny I get my haircut there too!#3 on the sides faded to a #5 on top. Wife does it then I bang her.
I go to the Aveda 10 salon. I get a free beer with my haircut (decent microbrew selection also).I'm mildly shocked to read so many are going to chain barbers. I thought for sure the super elite upper tier guys would be going to local shops only.
Been buying the HeadBlade, it works well. 4 pack of blades is $17, one blade lasts me 2-3 weeks. So $17 ever 10ish weeks.I shave it, so whatever the cost of my razor blades are.
Agree with this. I have a full head of hair, and would go down to a #1 all around by my wife hates the look. Her words, "why would you bald yourself if you're not bald?" I said ok, I'll keep some up top but told her as soon as it starts to recede, I'm buzzing it. That was when my brother, who is two years older, started to get a bigger forehead. Mine hasn't started yet.Nope just trying to paint a complete picture here. Some of the self cutters aren't bald either.
Mani/pedi too, Jamie? At the salon from my stylist, just a cut $25 +$10 tip. Cut and color $60 + $15 tip for the stylist +$5 tip for the shampoo gal.
I go every 6 weeks and get color every other time. Haven't been for about 10 weeks now though as I'm growing it long right now. Hair variety is the spice of life. Ok, not really but it's a way to shake things up.
I don't know if the regulation is state to state or what, but there are different levels. Some guy came into Sport Clips on day and wanted to be clean shaven with a blade. They had to tell them they didn't have that liscensing to use a blade.Walking Boot said:Over-regulation killed the industry. In most states, you can't get a barber's license anymore. You need to get years of training at a salon school, learning to cut men's and women's hair, and get a Cosmetology license. Used to be you just had to buy scissors, a couple of combs, and get an apprenticeship at a shop. Now you're looking at three years of school. Once you're done, well, you really going to throw away 90% of that education giving guys $15 haircuts, or, put what you spent all that time learning to use and cut women's hair for $90?
I go to an old-school guy who uses scissors, no electric clippers. Took forever to find a decent place that still had scissors.
Never. I just want my hair to look top notch. And there's nothing wrong with that.Mani/pedi too, Jamie?
I go to a real barber shop with a real barber pole out front and rear barber chairs inside. Men's cuts are $10. I toss in $3-5 tip. All the hair cutters are women.I'm mildly shocked to read so many are going to chain barbers. I thought for sure the super elite upper tier guys would be going to local shops only.
So you're either a Brad Pitt caliber hunk, or you're bald (or near it). Gotchaaaa.I won’t pay more than $10 with a $5 tip. Any more than that is stupid. If I get a bad haircut I still look good.
Yep, though I go #2 or #3, and it's every 3-4 weeks.Just me and my Braun clippers. #4 setting every 2 weeks.
Similar thing here - but my tip is a jerk from The Stranger in the shower - I call the whole process the The Barber of SpillvilleI do my own and tip myself a $20.00
Exactly. I went once and was disappointed yet paid twice as much.A number of times over the years, I went to salons or high-end local places. Sounds more like a hard on shop![]()
If his name ain't Sal or Vito or something similar, it ain't a real barber shop.
All the barbers under the age of 70 around me are women as well. They went specifically to barber school to cut mens hair.![]()

Proper protocol is to also leave a $20 on the toilet seat.Similar thing here - but my tip is a jerk from The Stranger in the shower - I call the whole process the The Barber of Spillville
