Being a Packers fan in VA, I think it changes things a little. I don't get to see the daily stuff and insider stuff that people in the GB area see/read/hear, which may be a good thing. I always appreciated Favre and thought of him as a Packer Legend, but since he left GB, I would never pull for him unless we needed his team to beat xxx team for standings or division reasons. If anyone thinks that makes me a bad fan, they can kiss my butt, I don't tell anyone else how to root for their team and I don't need anyone telling me how to root for my team. TIA

who are you to tell me how I feel is wrong? Listen, in a few years from now (assuming he's not playing anymore) I'm sure I'll get over it. Of course I remember all the great year and we'll all think back of how lucky we were to have him on our team. But he jerked us around, quit on us and then ended his career on the rivals' team. In fact, Kampan took out a full page newspaper ad thanking the fans for their support.The difference is Favre was less than straightforward in his dealings with Green Bay, and wanted us to believe 'his' version of events. His aim was divide the fan base and paint Ted Thompson as the bad guy. He wanted to enjoy the same control of the team he had when Mike Sherman was in town, and Thompson believed 'control' belonged to the GM.Regardless of which 'side' you took during the Green Bay departure, most reasonable people now feel they were duped by Favre. His off field demeanor was really buried in Green Bay, and the press has readily admitted they kept stories buried out of respect for what Favre had done in Green Bay. Once he hit New York, all bets were off, and it really opened people's eyes to Favre off the field. I can separate off field vs. on field to an extent. I will always, always respect what the guy did on the field. He was a big part of bringing Green Bay back from the abyss. Not really baffling at all. After the Vikings played the Bears Favre made it a point to tell Julius Peppers to beat the Packers in two weeks. Not even the next week, but in two weeks. A Bear victory over the Packers in the last week would knock the Packers out of the playoffs. The Bears Packers game had no bearing on the Vikings or Favre at all. But Favre had to take sides and root against the Packers. Couple this with other stories of Favre openly rooting for the Packer's opponent (calling up Detroit and offering to share the playbook when he was with the Jets, etc.) and it's no wonder the Packer fans don't embrace him. Packer fans cheered him like crazy when he was in Green Bay. He knows as well as anyone what the Packers mean to the city and state and the fans. And yet he can't put his feelings for Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy aside and takes it out on the fans.

Where are you from that you said Favre was an outstanding leader. You must not live in WI. I've listened to Gilbert Brown and LeRoy Butler over the past 3 years say the opposite. They said Brett was never a leader. He didn't study the game film well, he just wanted to go play. He played great at times but made way to many mistakes to be considered in the likes of Montana, Elway, even Brady. Everything I've heard about Favre was he was an awesome guy when Homgren was around but then he changed when he became HUGE!!! Listen to Chmura talk about him, they used to be best friends, now they don't talk. Remember this to. What team did Favre ever lead to a SB. Reggie White was the leader on the team in 1996, not Favre. I am a Packer fan, and I thought Favre was a great QB, but I never was one who thought he was one of the greats. Way to many TO's to me. I don't think Packers fans will forgive easily. Packer fans are different than most. We feel like we have a stake in the team, like we own part of it, like we have a say in the organization. I grew up in Wisconsin. The reason Chmura and Favre don't talk anymore is that Favre broke his ties with him when he was trying to clean up from his drinking and vicodin. Then Chmura had his troubles with the post prom party and that solidified things with Favre and Chmura. You guys can bash Favre all you want. All I know is I have nothing but great memories for what he game to Packer fans when he played. He was a joy to watch and he loved the game. After watching the Packers in the 70s and 80s it was great to see things change.

Incredibly pathetic. It's amazing to me how Packer fans rip on Favre. Favre is one of the key reasons why anybody cares about the Packers again. Like I said, you don't have to like the guy but he was an outstanding player (obviously), a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer and probably one of the Top 2-3 Packers of all time. Favre is a Top 5-10 all-time QB in my opinion. That would be something if Rodgers became better than Favre. Include the vastly under-appreciated Starr and perhaps we should change Green Bay's team name from the Packers to Quarterback Central.

Being a Packers fan in VA, I think it changes things a little. I don't get to see the daily stuff and insider stuff that people in the GB area see/read/hear, which may be a good thing. I always appreciated Favre and thought of him as a Packer Legend, but since he left GB, I would never pull for him unless we needed his team to beat xxx team for standings or division reasons. The Lions are no longer a laughing stock and could approach 9 or 10 wins if the ball bounces for them a bit. They have the best weapon in the NFL at receiver and if Stafford can stay healthy they will challenge for the playoffs (big if). The Falcons were pretenders but they have a lot of pieces in place. Problem for them is that Turner is almost at that magic number of 30. So the window with him (and that offense really revolves around him) is closing quickly. The Saints are tough but they obviously faltered so who knows. The East is the most overrated division in the league. East Coast bias in full effect here because they are big markets. But the glass of the east was 0-3 against the class of the North this season. Plus they are weaker right on down the line as well. Washington < Detroit.

NFC North is going to be real tough next year. Look at Detroit against the final 4 playoff teams: 1-1 against the Pack, seemingly beat the Bears week 1, and then lost to the Bears by 4 with their 3rd string QB, and choked away the Jets game in the final minute. If those are the supposed 4 best teams in football, it makes me feel good about the Lions next year.
