If you could know the stats of any one QB (1 Viewer)

... who would it be and why?

I suspect a lot of people will say Kurt Warner. Possibly Drew Bledsoe after that.

I'd want to know the stats of Chris Simms ahead of time. I think the Tampa offense has the potential to be really good this year, and knowing Chris Simms could say a lot about Galloway and Clayton for '06. He's a young guy who Gruden could turn into quite the fantasy QB for years to come.

For purposes of this question, games played/started would be part of their stat line.

As an aside, I'd like to know the stats of "QB Detroit" in '06, but that's outside the scope of the question.

Interesting hypothetical. I'd guess guys that can be had relatively cheap due to uncertainty but with top 5 upside.

Warner

Brooks

Culpepper

Vick.

His numbers would at least tell me whether he'll stay healthy.

Screw knowing the stats, give me the records and Super Bowl champ ;)

Roethlisberger and Culpepper.

Of course there will be one or two surprises like Palmer etc. but since I can only pick one name it is Manning.

I don't think I have ever taken Manning because he usually goes too early, but it would be really good to know whether he will end up a super-stud (worthy of taking in the first) or merely very good (worthy of passing up unless he falls to the fourth).

Delhomme.... probably could be had far cheaper than the roths/mannings/warners/bulgers/etc. and with smith and meshawn could put up bigger numbers than he did last year. i wonder what his ADP will end up looking like around training camp. hmmmmm.....

He probably wouldn't be my first choice, but one interesting choice would be Carr. Everyone loves to rag on him based on how things went last season, but many overlook that the year before he was a 3500 yard passer on a team with only a single WR and RB as competent offensive options. He isn't as popular a choice of a possible great value as Brooks, Warner, Kitna, etc. But if under Kubiak he can get back to or exceed his 2004 yards plus add a few more TDs and fewer picks, he could be a good starter and had very late in a draft.

Palmer is the clear answer here, IMO. His current ADP has him going in the 3rd-4th round, however, if he replicates last year's stats, he's likely a 1st round pick. If I knew that going in, it could be an opportunity to dominate the draft.

This is one I didn't expect to see in here, but I like your analysis. It's not every day that a QB of his caliber falls to the 4th round, but it's not every day a QB of his caliber suffers a brutal leg injury at the end of the season either.

:goodposting: This is the right call. He's actually the PLAYER I'd most like to know the stats for, regardless of position.

I would want to know the stas of my keeper (Bulger) to decide whether I should trade him away to some unsuspecting owner before the draft. ;)

Another Bulger owner wondering if he will stay healthy or try to get a package deal for a Delhomme and something.

I don't think it's Palmer - yes it might tell you how many games he will play, but likely the preseason will tell us if he is going to start right away or be out for a few weeks.

The QB with the greatest upside is

The QB with the greatest downside is

They are both the same - KURT WARNER

If he stays healthy, I think he will have a great year. But yes, will he play every game? Thats a huge question.

I'll go a different route.

Knowing his numbers would clue me in on RB and WR, which I think would be the key reason to know a QB's numbers ahead of time.

So my choice is:

Jake Plummer.

If his numbers were high (3200+) I'd know to target Javon Walker and Rod Smith.

I'd also know to shy away from Bell and Dayne, as if Plummer is throwing that much, neither back may be doing well.

Conversely, if his numbers are bad (and I assume I know his games played / started number), I'd grab one or both backs.

If his numbers were low because he missed time, I'd know whether to grab Cutler.

Culpepper would be my choice. He just got traded straight up for a 1st rounder next year in my league. Lots of arguing both sides of the fence on that one.

I'd be very interested in McNabb's final line as he's a guy who seemingly could be a huge bargain or a major bust.

Favre and McNair fall in that category too.

It would tell you if he was going to remain upright and not suffer any effects from the injury. If I could see his stats right now and know he was going to go for 4,000 yards and 34 TDs right now and I could get him in round 4, there's almost no way I could lose my league unless I got horribly unlucky with my top 3 picks.Warner, Kitna, Culpepper are all good ones too. If you could see stats like the ones I posted for Palmer above and get those guys in the later rounds, that much the better. I still think Palmer has a much better upside than Warner, though.

I don't understand why you would necessarily want to know the numbers of someone you already have targeted as a top 10. I have some second tier QB's that I am going to target as my QB2, and I would be much more interested in finding out how they will produce, since I have little doubt that the top tiers will produce good numbers. I would think most would want to know the stats of one of their potential sleepers. I would want to know about someone like Carr, Kitna, or Pennington.

Assuming that such knowledge could be used for good (helping me alone) versus evil (my competion knowing it too), so by process of elimination:

Warner - still with the same team + Edge, not too big a change.

Palmer - We'll know his injury status soon enough and adjust accordingly.

Bulger - Linehan will still throw enough to keep his value.

Plummer - Known quantity.

Kitna - We can learn about him a little more in pre-season, but he's still playing for the Lions and they still only have one good WR.

I'd probably lean toward Culpepper due to all the changes in his circumstances.

Good thread BTW

From a fantasy perspective it would be John Kitna, not only for Kitna but for the potential receiving points out of their receivers.

From a personal perspective, I would like to see Greise's stats. It would give me an idea on their situation come year end.

Brooks- TD's and how many over 50 yds.

Kitna- Yardage.. Fav target.

Bledsoe- Yeah, an easy guess why.

Brees- Does he make Stallworth a legit #1.

If just one, I would be interested in Aaron Brooks. I think with his numbers known it would give us a great insight into 2 other players' possible production this year..... Moss and Jordan.

The Raider offense can be explosive and seeing the numbers for Brooks would allow us to see whether that offensive will live up to its potential this year.
