Starting from scratch and assuming it will be a couple years to assemble the rest of the talent to compete, it's either Anthony Davis or Karl Anthony Towns.  Voted Davis in the poll.

For me, it is between Davis or Curry. I would lean Davis as he is five years younger, but I could easily see Curry aging similar to Steve Nash and carrying his prime for another six or so years and being a all-star level player for a couple after that. I still think Lebron would be the guy I would pick for next year, but he's starting to really gather some mileage and has to pace himself during the regular season.

I just can't see a guy like Davis. Not doubting his ability but the league rules have not favored big men for some time now.

Davis or Curry. Voted Davis based on age and concerns over how long Curry can sustain his current output but I don't think you can argue much with either of those two.

LeBron is old. If the question was "start a franchise and win next year" LeBron is at the top of the list. Guys like Leonard, Davis, Towns and to a lesser extent Curry, have a lot of years left compared to him.
I won't disagree.

You think Cleveland can win a ring this year?

Yes. They're not better than the Spurs or Warriors though. Getting a free pass to the finals helps tremendously.
I think the Spurs will give the Warriors a run for their money in the Western Conference Championship. That's a 7 game series. I'd take San Antonio from an experience perspective alone.

I think from the list there's only I would immediately eliminate all but 5 - Curry, Leonard, Davis, Durant and Westbrook.  I'd eliminate Durant for health concerns and Westbrook because he's a little bit of a head case.

Until they change the rules it will continue to be a guards game or better not a big mans game - so Davis is out.  If Leonard were a better shooter I'd consider him but Curry may be the best shooter EVER.  Think I'd take Curry in a toss up.

He is a 24/10 guy that can protect the rim and run.  What else do you need from a franchise player here?  If he had anyone around him he would dominate even further.

If Curry can get better at defense, he will be a top 10 player in NBA history by time he retires.

I'll take Kawhi, mainly because I'm just a guy who prefers defense. And the only reason I don't say Davis, is because it's a perimeter game now, so he's going to be underutilized regardless.

Gun to my head Curry....but Towns is right there with him.

I think Davis has a higher ceiling than Towns, but the injuries are scaring me.

Kawhi is good, but he's smaller than Towns and Davis and isn't the revolutionary player that Curry has shown. Kawhi might get there, but I'd rather bet on Davis and Towns.

No Kobe option?
At a college basketball board I occasionally check in on, a hypothetical being discussed right now is if Kobe was granted college eligibility this fall, what level of contributor would he be at a blue blood, P5, or mid-major program?  Answers have ranged everywhere from "he would lead D-I in scoring at La Salle" to "wouldn't even play at Kentucky".

Leonard was 3rd in the league in 3pt% and shot over 50% from 2. Damn near joined the 50/40/90 club.

After looking at the numbers in some more detail... I change my answer to Towns.  I didn't realize his midrange shooting was so good.  Between that and his free throw shooting, I'm willing to bet he becomes a legit 3PT shooter down the road.

I've heard the SportVU data shows a lot of hidden value in Towns's game, too.

Just back to laugh at Carmelo Anthony one more time :lmao:

Give me end of the bench Cleanthony Early after a strip club shooting over Melo and his max contract.

Wiggins is in the conversation as far as I'm concerned.  Today's rules don't favor the bigs like Towns and Davis to truly dominate like the wing players can.

Wiggins should have been an option. :kicksrock:
