In a blind in the woods, ask me anything (1 Viewer)

Why do they call it a blind? Because you aren’t supposed to be seen by the game or some other reason?

Do you eat anything you kill?

Are you cold?
Not at all. 33 degrees here this morning. Balmy for this time of the year at daylight

Where is here?
In the woods.... are you not paying attention?

Why do you call them window blinds?

This is AMA, not AbelljrA. Get your own thread, guy.

I never thought about it really. But yes, as long as you don’t move deer will usually look right at you and go about their business. In a treestand, not so much, at least in my experience. Also nice to get out of the weather especially this time of year. There is also a heater for the brutally cold mornings.

I usually give most of my venison away. We make our own sausage and ground meat but I’m not a huge fan of straight venison to be honest.
I grew up eating rabbit, squirrel , pheasant, dove, deer. I’ve eaten black bear. I haven’t been small game hunting in years though sadly

Is your flintlock an antique or newer? Pics?
Not an antique.

I got it new 30 or so years ago

This one

What percentage of the time are you on your phone in the blind?
Today…40-50 I guess.
I don’t really care to kill a deer anymore. I killed my share in my lifetime.
I could’ve killed 2 nice bucks in rifle season. I’m out to relax and enjoy being out here. If I see any deer it’s gravy

Not even the backstrap?? Mannnn, that's the filet mignon cut right there! Marinate that bad boy then grill it up. :chef's kiss: It was a toss up between that and fried venison cutlets with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy and cathead biscuits when I was a youngster at the hunting camp with my dad.

You have a thermos of hot coffee and a stern look on your face? And a pick up truck at the end of the lane waiting for you to drive her home?
I have a small thermos with black tea and honey

No stern looks except for when work called earlier and I ignored the call

My wife dropped me off this morning. Only maybe 5 mins from home and the little pulloff I usually park in is full of plowed snow, I didn’t want to chance getting stuck

Yeah, I can take it or leave it and my wife ate a ton of it growing up and doesn’t care to eat it anymore

My circle of family/friends freezers are full by now. If I kill a buck (unlikely) he will probably end up here

There is a butcher shop here that donates their time to process the deer
