Darius Slay being released. We added him, retain the important pieces- I think that is a top 3 defense in the waiting. (happy to see the optimistic Chad back guys?)
He's 34 and coming off a Superbowl win. CBs tend not to age well into their mid/late 30s - those that do, tend to convert to Safety. At this stage in the career, the risk is high that a player who comes to a struggling/rebuilding team does so only to chase the biggest contract still available, which is a terrible motivator once signed. If only offered more reasonable dollars, he either re-signs with Philly or goes to another contender. The current Raiders franchise isn't at the point where this type of signing has a good likelihood of success. They're likely better served retaining key core UFAs - Spillane, Butler, Chiasson, even Koonce and/or Hobbs - and then targeting younger, upside UFAs from other teams looking for 2nd or 3rd (rather than 4th) NFL contracts.
