Lions fans melting down on losing Heiden and possibly Tanner so that makes me feel like they are solid at least lol
I think Wilks is a good hire. He never should have lost his gig at Carolina after he was promoted to HC mid-season and led a terrible roster to a 6-6 record in his 12 games as HC. Players play hard for him.Wilks new DC, Banjo from Denver new DT coach, Heiden Lions TE coach new OL coach.
Agreed - and besides being a good coach with HC experience for AG to lean on, it allows AG to be more of a CEO and not get enticed to concentrate on the defense like the other failed Jets DC HCs. Not to mention his failure at HC makes it unlikely he'll be poached if the Jets turn it around.I think Wilks is a good hire. Seems like solid moves so far. I like that the first thing Glenn did was kick Keith Carter to the curb.
Once they look at personnel, I hope Clemons is the first one to get booted into the sun.
Gotta think they have already decided on Rodgers. I can't imagine they keep him especially bringing in a first-time OC. He spent all season alienating Wilson. I can't imagine that they would allow him to undermine the new OC, especially if it's Engstrand. Run with Tyrod and make GW5 the focal point of the new offense. At least Tyrod knew to pass to Wilson. Draft or sign another QB for when Tyrod eventually gets hurt. Then kick out Lazard and all of his other cronies.
Gotta think they have already decided on Rodgers.
Im sure they will have discussions because if they are considering bringing him back it will have to be on a new contract. There have been indications they wont let it drag so not going to wait for ARs usual darkness retreat. Decision is solely up to th new regime.Gotta think they have already decided on Rodgers.
I don't think they have, NYRAGE. If the way they're talking about him is any indication, they seem amenable to having him back. Nothing but praise for Rodgers from the GM. Glenn was a little more noncommittal in saying that they weren't answering questions because they hadn't finished evaluating the situation.
If they knew they were moving on, I think they would have said so by now. I think they're really going to evaluate it, and the more they do, the more they're going to figure out they can't run it back with him. But that's just me. We know these guys lie through their teeth to the media; it just seems like there's no benefit to that here.
Agreed - I'm sure they want to make sure they have a Plan B if they don't want Rodgers back. And it may take some time to have a Plan B at this point, well before free agency and the rookie draft.Im sure they will have discussions because if they are considering bringing him back it will have to be on a new contract. Does anyone know roughly what the dead cap ramifications are if Rodgers is cut/retires/signs some sort of new deal? Are we sitting on dead money with him no matter what the outcome is here?
All fair pointsGotta think they have already decided on Rodgers.

We'll see. Rodgers does help them win the most next season, but I'm betting on they move on because:
1) Glenn just said it's about the team and not one player, while everything with Rodgers is about me, me, me. His type of offense. His cadence. His players. Him choosing to go to Egypt instead of camp. Him throwing players under the bus for not reading his mind when plays break down. Him alienating G Wilson. His records and forcing the ball to his guys. Him having to deal with an inexperienced new OC. His timeline for coming back. Does anyone trust Rodgers to be a team guy after all these years even if he agrees to be a team player?
2) Even if they decided to bring him back and he wants to come back, then what happens the following year? Do we have to go through his timeline and a darkness retreat again? Another year of getting older. Not exactly the best way to build sustained success relying on a 40+ year old QB.
I think Glenn and Moog had to present a plan to Woody during their interviews. They're not exactly going to express it publicly now. I'm sure they want to come off as being diligent and thorough about it. I'm sure Woody wants to dump him and is saying the right thing publicly (leaving it up to them).
Plan B doesn't have to be more specific than saying they are drafting another QB or adding someone like Fields to compete with Taylor for this year until they draft another QB (maybe the following year).
If they decide to keep Rodgers for next year, then that's fine. I just hope they have an honest realistic discussion of what they can accomplish next season with Rodgers vs long-term success of starting fresh.

However AG wants to win now and it may be important to stabilize the situation and not have 2 lousy QBs for another 5 win season. This roster can compete for the playoffs now with AR, a solid coaching staff and a kicker who can make a FG when it counts!
Rodgers is absolutely a diva but I dont see him as toxic like a Kyrie - still hate him for what he did to my Nets superstar team - I doubt he wants to go somewhere else and probably has 1 more year in him. He has indicated he would rework his deal and even take a pay cut. If thats the case then why not roll one more year with Rodgers. The new deal could keep them out of cap hell, give AG a much better chance to establish a winning culture - and hopefully draft a QB in day 2 or 3 to develop for a year.
I will still be rooting for them like an idiot come August no matter what they do.
agreed - and if contingent on Wilson and him get on same page - def not alienating him for 1 yr of AR -I will still be rooting for them like an idiot come August no matter what they do.
Yeah. Same here. I will say that I will root much less enthusiastically if Rodgers runs this back without demonstrating that he wants to be a team guy first. No cronies, no anything.

Offense definitely wasnt firing early but they put the team in a position to win a few times where kicking, defense and coaching blew it as well - not that im giving the O a pass. This roster can compete for the playoffs now with AR, a solid coaching staff and a kicker who can make a FG when it counts!
I have to say that it wasn’t so much the kicker as Rodgers’s age that did us in. That offense looked flat anemic at times, even while it was looking ten times better than under Z. Wilson. We still had miles to go and promises to keep.
I just don’t want to paper over that it wasn’t good by blaming the kicker. We were downright mediocre on offense.
Rodgers also had a top 5 season for a QB in Jets history
Rodgers also had a top 5 season for a QB in Jets history
I take your point, though. Rodgers was not bad and the offense was leaps and bounds ahead of where it was since Sam Darnold was named starter.
To make it worse the guys at the top of the Jets single season passing records are one year wonder journeyman like Testeverde and Fitzpatrick. That simply tells you how bad the QB position has been for the Jets over the years. Ken O'Brien for a few years and Testaverde for a year or two and then who? Sanchez? Nope.
I don't count Namath. He was more famous than he was good. If the Colts hadn't thrown SBIII, hardly anyone would remember him nowadays. To make it worse the guys at the top of the Jets single season passing records are one year wonder journeyman like Testeverde and Fitzpatrick. That simply tells you how bad the QB position has been for the Jets over the years. If you don’t count Namath, their all time best QBs are O’Brien or Chad Pennington. Sanchez actually has a legit argument. That’s pretty amazing.
Im very much at peace with the situation - I have faith that it will be quick - and if he comes back everyone is on board and there will be a plan in place contract wise as well as future. If they rip off the band aid then im fine with that as well.Put me in the camp that would rather not have Rodgers back. I’d rather a small drop off of Tyrod Taylor for a season while we clean his and the prior regimes stink off.
I’d be on board with Justin Fields being brought in if he’s willing to take a short term deal.

Could do worse than a Tyrod/Fields competition - Fields is still young with upside - not crazy to imagine a Baker type jump if the lights go on.
I can name a number of teams just last season that had a worse QB situation than a Fields/Taylor combination including Las Vegas, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, NY Giants, Indianapolis and Jacksonville.Im very much at peace with the situation - I have faith that it will be quick - and if he comes back everyone is on board and there will be a plan in place contract wise as well as future. It's an interesting spot. And always good to have the "at peace" position on it.
As far as doing worse than Tyrod/Fields, I'm not sure. It's possible of course. But I wonder how likely. That's a pretty low bar.
Fields would be a good fit. Get back to running the ball and playing defense. As an aside, I think Fields is vastly underrated. Steelers were 4-2 with him, and 6-6 with Wilson. Sure, Fields isn't a great passer, but he's an elite runner, and has gotten a lot better about not turning the ball over. He's absolutely a top-32 NFL QB, and he's never had much of a supporting cast, NY has much more talent than anything Fields has had so far, and there is already a familiarity with Garrett Wilson as he and Olave were a 1A/1B with Fields at Ohio State.Put me in the camp that would rather not have Rodgers back. I was actually rooting for them to draft Fields over Zach - I know it didnt work out for him in Chicago but he has shown flashes and I think he looked improved in Pitt. Bottom line is a team could win with him - and I wouldnt trust Tyrod to stay healthy anyway so they need to bring someone else in. I dont think Fields would cost too much either. He'd be hungry for a shot to be a full time starter againI really always been a Fields fan. Never understood taking zach over him and it certainly seems like he got a slightly raw deal in Chicago. He's a flawed player but I think there's still untapped potential there

I think we have different opinions of Taylor and Fields..
Believe it or not, Fields passer rating (so not counting his rushing at all, which was an 800-14 pace this season) was better than such names as Geno Smith, CJ Stroud, Dak Prescott, Trevor Lawrence, and of course Aaron Rodgers, and all of those guys had better weapons around them.
I wouldnt rely on taylor by himself - only if they brought in another decent option. I personally like Fields - at least hes young with upside.I do think Fields could be interesting. Starting Taylor would be giving up before the season started in my opinion.
Both give them way less chance to win than Rodgers in my opinion.
But should be fun.

I guess? I mean I'd love to hear how those teams had better QB rooms than a Fields/Taylor combo - Fields went 4-2 last season while all of those teams are picking in the Top 10 mostly because they had horrible QB play.
Minshew, O'Connell, Rudolph, Levis, Watson, Winston, Daniel Jones, Tommy Cutlets, Lawrence, Mac Jones, Richardson, Flacco.... I'm not seeing how you can really make that claim???
Fields is easily better than all of them and Taylor is better than most of them. I don't even think this is remotely controversial.
Pittsburgh would be the only one I'd even consider was possibly better but personally I don't think Russell Wilson is good anymore and would rather have Tyrod Taylor who people seem to forget was a very good QB for many years in Buffalo and looked like the best QB on the two New York teams the last two seasons when he got his shot.

Rodgers on paper would definitely give them more of a chance to win but its possible the new regime wants a fresh start...or Rodgers doesnt want a reset - and the biggest issue of all is his contract where if it doesnt get reworked is a massive hit for the next 2 yrs vs ripping the band aid off now.
Or I have a low opinion of all those other QBs I named to show that a Fields/Taylor QB room wouldn’t be the worst in the league. I obviously wouldn’t call it a slam dunk duo that would take the Jets to the Super Bowl next season but it’s my opinion of the best option out there.Again, you have a much higher opinion of Taylor and Fields. It'll be interesting.
Fields was 4-2 last season and was playing very well - his stats were posted a few posts back.Starting Taylor is giving up. Hoping Fields becomes a viable starter on the 3rd try is something to hope for.

I don’t think he’s one of the best QBs in the league but he would provide this offense with a different dynamic that is the winning formula in the NFL now
Right now there’s risk so I’d put him in about the QB18-22 range but with upside if he improves as a passer.I don’t think he’s one of the best QBs in the league but he would provide this offense with a different dynamic that is the winning formula in the NFL now
This is the better way to ask it: Where would you rank Fields among QBs based on real NFL QB value? Without regard to contract.
Rodgers may be a slightly better QB than Fields or Taylor still at this point but the guy is a cancer and his antics aren’t worth the juice he brings anymore. Plus Fields is obviously much younger and if he hits they don’t have to look for yet another QB in 2026.Or I have a low opinion of all those other QBs I named to show that a Fields/Taylor QB room wouldn’t be the worst in the league. I truly cannot grasp how people would want Rodgers back simply because he MIGHT 'be the best option available.' This is an incredibly short sighted, Joe Benigno-esq thought process that involves NEEDING the team to somehow be competitive or win (lol) next year. This isn't about next year. Not anymore. And don’t sell me on Rodgers “buying in” as his history shows that’s a long shot even if he gives it lip service now.
