Indefinite Tampa Bay Bucs thread: Somehow not on the list of teams to never have won a Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

In the interest of fairness, Glennon looked really good yesterday. And other than VJax he doesn't have many weapons on offense.
So that means you really like Glennon's dynasty value, right? So then Schiano stays? Everything works out in the end?
No. God I hope not. Probably not.
This team is going to find a way to sneak to 5 wins and save that bum his job. They will miss out (or skip) on the top QBs and Clowney and draft a safety.

We'll be right back here next season, complaining about Schiano. I hate this team.

I still think Glennon is just a guy. But his success in Schiano's system points to Freeman's complete sucktitude. What a waste of a promising young career.

So what is the deal with Doug Martin? I mean these other backs have come in and done better than he did. I realize he's got talent but why the lack of production compared to the two inferior backs? Has the line been shuffled? Better playcalling? What gives?

I'm with the rest of the Bucs fans here. It's looking like the Bucs are going to play themselves out of a top pick. If they can make this a 4-5 win game season Schiano may not get fired. I have no idea how they would plan on selling tickets for 2014 with a coach everyone in town hates.

If they play themselves out of a top 5 pick what do they do in the draft?

-a QB not named Bridgewater or Mariotta? Hundly, Manziel, Taj Boyd?

-trade picks to move up to take a top QB :wall:

-We really need to upgrade pass rush

-I could see them going O-line and getting rid of one or two of the high priced vets.

-WR. This team really looked like it needed another option besides V-Jax and Williams. If Wright continues to progress he could be the guy, but we still need another target.

You know what - the Bucs are playing pretty well.

I rather like them this week - and their defense - vs the Panthers.
Be careful. The Bucs are minus their starting safety and starting MLB Foster, all because of another helmet to helmet hit by Goldson that led to his suspension plus knocked Foster for a concussion. Just know the score. I was at the last Bucs-Panthers game and the Bucs defensively had no answer for Cam Newton.

Unbelieveable, Goldson's a real loose cannon.

Thanks.

Goldson was suspended last week. He will be back this week.

I'd love Manziel in the middle of the first half.

All I know is we better not hire another inexperienced guy like Raheem or Schiano. I want someone with head coaching experience. I would have to think the Glaziers have some kind of a plan in place, since they have had since week 6 to start thinking about it.

A bunch of questions,

-I wonder if they will go with an offensive minded coach? They were worst in the league...

-If they go with an O guy does that guarantee a 1st round QB?

-What is going to happen with these aging vet contracts on the O-line?

I just hope the Glaziers don't miss out on their first target again, and hire someone relatively quick. Their long search last time made us get stuck with a nobody like Schiano.

McKay got the team in a bad cap situation for many years, but he did help build a SB team. My only problem is neither McKay or Lovie could hit on a QB, and they are coming into a situation without a QB. I would take Lovie though.

Do any Bucs fans think Glennon could be the future? Seems like he had a pretty good rookie year for a QB.

I'd like to see him get another shot in 2014 with a healthy Martin, Nicks, and Williams. I don't see a QB in this draft worth the 7th pick anyway (not to mention at least 5 of the teams in front of the Bucs need a QB), and there is too much money tied up in free agents/veterans to break in a rookie QB.

That's part of the reason I thought Schiano would get another year, but his firing leads me to believe, especially with the rumors already swirling around Lovie, the Glazers have had a plan in place.

Maybe they're getting ready to throw some money at Jay Cutler?

A lot of teams are getting ready to throw money at Jay Cutler. I don't think that is a wise plan. I know most people in Tennessee feel strongly that he is going to be signed by the Titans.

I didn't say it was wise. Just speculating. Lovie obviously has a previous relationship with Cutler. How good of a relationship?

Yea...doesn't look like a #1 pick will be used, but would be surprised if the Bucs didn't draft another QB in the 2nd or 4th. Homer in me would love McCarron. Glennon looked pretty good for a rookie, but I can't imagine a new regime will just hand him the keys.

Can't imagine that Glennon has any future with the Bucs. He was a Schiano man, and while he wasn't horrible, he's barely average at best and his upside is extremely limited. Any reputable new head coach coming in will look at Glennon's tape and want to divorce himself from that ASAP. Not that Glennon has no future in the NFL as a backup. Bucs starting QB is in the upcoming draft, imo.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

The guy completes close to 60% of his passes with 19 td's to 9 ints as a rookie with a bad offensive line, a guy named bobby Rainey at rb, and throwing the ball to Tim wright and taquan underwood. I'm not claiming he is the next Peyton manning. However, he easily looks like a young qb with potential and no competent head coach should want to divorce him immediately.

Bucsnation.com has a breakdown of every throw he made this year and why it was right or wrong. Trust me, Glennon is horrible. Or don't trust me and go read for yourself.

This is a pretty harsh criticism.

I don't think Glennon will be a stud, but the Bucs won a SB with Brad Johnson at QB. Obviously, QB is a very important position, especially in today's NFL. However, the rest of the team is important too.

I'm curious to see whether there will be a house-cleaning of players and total rebuild, or if high-priced players will be kept and the new regime will try to do more of a quick reno and try to compete.

There is definitely some talent on the team, but they have holes as well, and definitely need improved coaching.

I'm not a huge Lovie fan, but I do like that he knows defense and is an experienced HC.

I thought Dom did a fair job the last few years, but I also like the chance at a fresh start. Dom was the one who drafted Freeman. It's fitting that he's gone with Freeman.

My problem with the QB position in the draft is that I don't think we are drafting high enough to get Bridgewater or Manziel without trading up. It is going to be difficult to trade up without a 3rd round pick, and probably wouldn't be wise anyways. Guys like Broyles, Hundley, Carr, or Boyd don't excite me. A 2nd year Glennon may be just as good as any rookie, but odds are if we improve our team we won't be drafting this high next season.

I think the house-cleaning may occur on the o-line. If that is the case, then we may go OT in the 1st. DE is also a possibility with 3 guys looking like top 10 (Barr, Clowney, Mack).

Rumors are that Kubiak is going to get an interview for the Bucs job. Has NFL head coach experience and knows how do build an offense. What would Bucs fans think of Kubiak as head coach?

Meh. Guy had all the talent in the world in Houston and couldn't get past the divisional game in an awful division. Pass.

@VincentFrankNFL: Tampa Bay doing great things. Jason Licht is probably the best hire of the entire offseasonm, coach or GM, for any team in the NFL.

I don't know anything about GMs but this is encouraging.

With far superior coaching now in place, this team would be better next year if they didn't make another move. But I think they go after an edge rusher in free agency (Jared Allen makes too much sense) and then add another pass rusher or offensive threat at pick 7. They also have a high second round pick.

I'm usually not very confident about this team but I think they have a chance to get to 10 wins next year. The secondary is loaded, and with McCoy and David in the front 7, it's hard to get a lot better than that.

Interesting comment. Quite the resume on this guy.

n 1995, Licht was hired by then-Miami Dolphins scout Tom Heckert as a scouting assistant before serving as the Dolphins' offensive assistant/quality control coach in 1996. He then spent the 1997 season working for the college scouting agency National Football Scouting and the 1998 season in the Carolina Panthers' scouting department. From 1999 through 2000, Licht served as a college scout for the Patriots before being promoted to national scout for them in 2001. He then was promoted to assistant director of player personnel in 2002, a position he held for one season before re-joining Heckert, then the Philadelphia Eagles' vice president of player personnel, in 2003 as the Eagles' assistant director of player personnel.[3]

Upon Heckert's promotion to general manager in 2006, Licht was elevated to vice president of player personnel, but was fired by the team in May 2008.[4] In June 2008, Licht was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as a personnel executive.[5] He left the Cardinals and returned to the Patriots as their director of pro personnel in February 2009.

In 2012, Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo was fired by the team. During the team's hunt, Licht was among the candidates for the general manager job, and he and Phil Emery were the two finalists.[6][7][8] The Bears hired Emery, and Licht returned to Arizona as the Cardinals' director of player personnel beginning in 2012 and was promoted to vice president of player personnel in January of 2013.

Licht has been on staff with one Super Bowl Champion (New England-2001), 2 NFC Championship teams (Philadelphia-2004, Arizona-2008), and 2 AFC Championship teams (New England in 2001, 2011).

I thought Smith was the best hire of any of the new coaches including O'Brien in Houston which I don't view as enthusiastic as others. But the GM on top which looks like a great hire, he'll have control over the draft. Smith has assembled great people around him, Bucs should be an improved team next year depending on the QB situation.

Was hoping for at least 1 more to go in with him. Felt it would have been special if Dungy was going in with him. Sapp, Brooks, Lynch sooner or later, maybe Barber, Simeon Rice probably not but I always felt he was when I saw him.

Cool for Brooks to get 2014 to himself though.

Ronde is a definite and Dungy will get in at some point. I don't think Lynch will ever make it.

That's 3 from a legendary defense and the coach who orchestrated it. Seems fair.

Lovie was a one back coach while in Chicago, but I've been reading that they are considering using an RB committee next year. What have you been hearing down in Tampa?
