Indefinite Tampa Bay Bucs thread: Somehow not on the list of teams to never have won a Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

Lovie was a one back coach while in Chicago, but I've been reading that they are considering using an RB committee next year. What have you been hearing down in Tampa?
Tedford was pretty clear in his opening press conference that he'd have some kind of committee. He alluded to his success with a multi-back system at Cal. Not wearing guys out, etc. They guy had some really talented and productive RB's btw. Marshawn Lynch, Shane Vereen, Jahvid Best, Justin Forsett, JJ Arrington.

Looks like we will be getting a uniform / logo overhaul. I doubt that it will be a drastic change, but a more Nike influenced look. Sapp said the helmet will have a chrome grill, so I would expect an all black helmet. Possibly matte black, or partial matte. Maybe with a red flag, or pirate ship...

I assume it'll be white so that they can do throwbacks.

Hopefully it looks good but I loved the logo and unis.

I could see making them similar to the white helmets oregon wore with the chrome mask. Then they could swap the red sticker for a Bucco Bruce one for the throwback. They have seemed to be putting more white around their branding efforts (the stadium). Black helmets would probably be too hot anyways.

They have a pirate ship alternate logo on Wikipedia. Maybe they use something like that.

From what I have read, the color scheme is not going to change much.

They mentioned that they were disappointed that they would not be able to do throwbacks.

"Fire" was mentioned and speculation on whether or not they incorporate the canon fire into their new scheme.

A new uniform will be unveiled later, but will only have subtle changes.

The Bucs store had a 50% off sale starting last monday to clear inventory, unis maybe here quicker than thought.

Some say the helmet may look like the rutgers distressed chrome-metal look with a dark chrome mask.

Me personally this makes me sick to my stomach. Love the Bucs as is...

In the link above are some of the suggestions for the new look that is being talked about for the Bucs helmet. I like the Black one myself. The white one would go great with the creamsicle unis if they ever have a throwback Sunday.
Those images are from when the Bucs changed from the creamsicles to the Pewter. So don;t take anything in that article too seriously even as hearsay.

This is the current rumored helmet and the logo looks to have an extended flag...

I was going to PM you yesterday. Have you seen them?
I haven't...they have trust issues. The only NFL team who has refused to show their licensees their logo changes until they release publicly that i can remember...but we do know there won't be a color change, like what the Phins did last year. They could move colors around...but it will still be the same red, pewter, black, and white.

Good stuff.

Can't blame them really. This stuff leaks all the time and I can't find anybody who has any dirt on this logo.

I like them, but I'm not a fan of the new skull. The chrome grill looks way more subtle on the pewter than I would of imagined. Tbey first showed a pic that made it look black, but the one they showed on TV looked nice in the light.

I'm meh about the logo/helmet.

What I liked hearing were McCoy's comments on Glennon. He basically said he was "upset" when he heard Lovie talking about taking a QB with the 7th pick. Obviously McCoy prefers another key cog for the defense there, but he went on to praise Glennon for his work ethic. He said "I love Mike Glennon. He can make all the throws."

He mentioned that Glennon made some rookie mistakes, which he did, but for McCoy to praise him like that makes me think he has earned the respect of the veteran players in that locker room. That's huge in my opinion.

I loved McCoy and Sapp going back and forth talking about Lovie and the defense.

Yea that was all good. I like Sapp talking about McCoy too.

To be fair though, McCoy was always a big Freeman defender. And that didn't go too well.

I'm not in love with any of these QB's anyway, so that probably enhances my support of Glennon. Give him another year. If he's horrible they'll be picking early again and they can go after Hundley, Mariota, or Winston (I don't think he'll stay at FSU).

This "new QB every year" strategy rarely works out well. Breaking in a rookie again is just going to waste another year.

All that being said, I expect Lovie to sit right where he's at with the 7th pick, take Mack or Barr, start them right away on the strongside, and get back to playing filthy smothering Buc defense.

Listening to the radio press conferences yesterday, and there are some big takeaways that I didn't expect to hear from Lovie Smith and new GM Licht.

1) Expectations are to win (9 or more wins) immediately.

2) Expect a huge amount of turnover in year one (~ 50%) Buh bye Men of Schiano.

3) The overpaid O-line and particularly Donald Penn is on notice for their jobs. Bucs could shave $20M to $30M in salary if they scrap it all and start over.

4) Glennon is not promised anything. They keep saying all the nice things about him, but it appears they are ready to take a plunge on rookie QB if he falls to them.

5) Mike Williams situation is a black cloud, and the mantra is everyone is going to be held to a higher standard on and off the field. Look for Lovie to make an example of him.

The only one I really like is Bridgewater. If he falls to 7, I'd jump all over him. Any others though....not so much.

I'm a big fan of Mack. Hope he's the pick.

I am interested to see how Glennon does with a full season, real coaching and talent around him.

The pewter looks more brown in the pic I saw.

I'm generally a fan of the Nike new uni styles, but these are going to take some getting used to. Hate them at first impression.

Stunned that there is talk of using another high pick in a QB after what I saw from Glennon last year. Would be a colossal mistake to use the 7th overall on a QB.

I said this year that I was jealous of the fresh look that Seattle had with their uniforms. I guess I got what I asked for.

That said, I did like the more classic look of our now last set of uniforms, but I think these will take.

Agree re: Seattle - love their uni's, especially the way they use the green highlights. They have also used the Seahawks eye in a menacing way in local restaurants/stores, it's awesome.

Lots of potential with these new Buc uni's, I think the online photo I'm seeing just makes the pewter look too brownish. In another light they probably look better.

Yea it looks like the bucs are suing something similar to the green with their orange.

I'm into it. Everybody hates change but these will be liked I believe.

Red unis come out at 2.

There's always talk. Especially with the Bucs. The fans here hate the QB. It doesn't matter who it is.

It doesn't matter that Glennon threw for a better completion percentage and TD/INT ratio than Andrew Luck did in his rookie year. Nobody mentions how completely messed up the entire situation was for a rookie QB to get thrown into. He performed admirably considering the situation. No Carl Nicks. No Doug Martin. No Mike Williams. No TE. Freeman causing turmoil left and right. MRSA outbreak. Fire Schiano billboards.

"Hey, rook, our QB is coked up and can't complete a pass. I know you were planning on clip-boarding it all year, but we need you to right the ship after this 0-3 start. Good luck!"

I mean, this guy made Tim Wright and Tiquan Underwood relevant.

I think Glennon can be successful, and I'll be highly disappointed if the Bucs use one of their first two picks on the QB position.

Graham agree with everything you posted.

But after the brass approved those jerseys I have absolutely no faith in them. If they can approve those jerseys, i can see them approving a punter for thier first pick.

I hope for Mack or one of the tackles but I will assume they will pick the worst possible position... Maybe rb

Just got around to finding the new jerseys, those are hideous. They look like something int he Canadian Football League, maybe the Arena league. Seriously, will not be buying any of those.

I feel uniforms look best with 2 colors only, you don't have to agree. The Bucs have black, red, grey, orange, another shade of red for the numbers which look like a digital clock, absolute puke. And then the shoulder/arm is totally different than the rest of the jersey, not a fan at all. And not just ugly but kind of bland after a while despite all the changes. They had a chance to make a solid throwback to those creamcicles that everyone seems to love, I think this was/is a failure. I like the pewter and red much better. I thought they were cool back in '98 or whenever they changed from the orange.

They're different but I think people will grow to like them. Everybody hates change.

Speaking of change, Davin Joseph just got the heave ho.

Agreed Joseph had one great year and has never played up to potential since. He is good but not ten mil good.

Now they want to cut Revis. This has been the worst off season for the Bucs since they have been my favorite team in 86. Lovie, please produce a good product for me... Its all i have left.

I don't really undertand the Revis situation. Why would they not want Revis on the Bucs? Maybe Lovie simply doesn't like him or doesn't want to be strapped to some ridiculous contract. Maybe the Glazes put their foot down.

The cap is going to $150M next year, what's the harm in giving him something that you can live with for the next 2-3 years? You are not going to draft better than him and IIRC the Bears had a pretty strong DB duo at Corner many of Lovie's better years in Chicago.

I just don't understand the move to want to cut him and it doesn't sound like most of you all do either. I was so excited the Bucs hired Lovie Smith, still am but this just feels wrong.

They're signing Michael Johnson today. He's a really good pass rusher. Fits a need. Until they cut him next year for some dumb reason.

Somewhere in the background maybe this was part of the reason for letting the former GM go; maybe ownership was never thrilled with the move and still isn't. As a decision maker if you make a call like that you'd better make it work. Revis was a hallmark of the old regime; that regime is now gone, time to set a new path.

Not real happy about it but I think the addition of Tedford is one of the most exciting things to watch in FF. I'm a little surprised people here aren't talking about it more.

Martin, James and Rainey all hold potential in his offense. So do the Wrs and whoever becomes the TE1. In terms of winning though, I am not sure it's a fit with Lovie though, reminds me a bit of the cross-purposes that Martz and Lovie were always at in CHI.

I agree with Warren Sapp when he criticized the Bucs D from building from the back. It starts up front, and our D line needed a good DE. Unfortunately, the Rockstar banked on Bowers being that guy instead of Bennet last year. This move will make McCoy & Claiborn more effective as well. Up front pressure along with good LB play and we shouldn't need to depend on lock down CBs as much.

I still hope they can somehow get something for Revis though, but a 16mil player isn't in the plans.

Check out this PDF our new front office guy, Tyler Overly, wrote about his statistical analysis on how to build a dynasty.

Wondering if this move comes from the Glazers? Kind of a "you can have a DE and a CB for $16M or Revis for $16M, but not both."

Word is they are going to spend all the way up to the cap, so I highly doubt it.

I think we can put the cheap Glazer meme to bed. They've spent far more than anybody else the past 3 years.

I don't really get the move then if you're willing to spend for a winner. The 3rd/4th round pick thing is pretty arbitrary. That can't be the deciding factor. Maybe they'll hang on to him?

Michael Johnson and Anthony Collins so far. Davin already cut. Penn likely next.

@NFLSTROUD: #Bucs agree to terms with Pro Bowl CB Alterraun Verner

So Verner, Michael Johnson, an interior lineman, the pass catching TE all on day one. Likely to sign a tackle, a guard and McCown.

Geez.

Outstanding moves by the Bucs so far. I was getting sick about Revis but not now. Verner is an excellent young CB and maybe not in Revis range but he is very good and I wanted Miami to sign him. Bucs save $10M a season, saved $10M on Davin Joseph, they grab Collins from Cinci if I have all this right so far. I like the direction they are going, just need a veteran QB and this has the makings of a playoff team or someone you are gonna wish you weren't playing on Sunday.

Lovie is breath of fresh air right now. I'm sorry but this has that same feel you could sense in your bones when this organization had Dungy and started getting it turned around before Gruden showed up. I really would love to see Smith take this team to the promised land.

Great off season IMO so far: "A"

Verner and Johnson's collective contracts are less per year than Revis'. Yeah, I get it, but if they're spending to the cap why not keep Revis and basically have a defense that will approach "best in the NFL" status?

Call it the "Revis 2" or something. Have him cover the other team's #1 and then let the other 10 guys play zone. Why do these coaches have to be so damn stubborn? You have a great player. Figure out how to use him.

Yes, I'm in denial. :kicksrock:
