I wouldn't dish inside scoop if I had it but this teaser is out there for everyone to read and speculate on.

EXCLUSIVE: Goodbye Charlie?

By John Taylor

OBR Reporter

Date: Mar 5, 2007

Another exclusive story from John Taylor, and one that will set the City of Cleveland buzzing. Read, ponder, but don't miss it...
On the boards the guy who runs the Browns content portion doesn't give any hints but he's made a strong stance that they have a breaking scoop.http://forums.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=149&...47&T=197773

Today's Story on Charlie Frye

We just put a story on our front page that could be one of the biggest we've broken. Either that, or it is one of those it-makes-sense-in-retrospect articles, where you wonder why no one put it together before.

Before threads start up about it, I want to say a couple of things:

1. If possible, we would prefer if you discussed the article in the TAP Room where you're free to delve into all details of the article without worrying about whether or not you're hurting the OBR by giving something away.

2. This article has been thoroughly sourced. Not once or twice, but five or six times. This isn't a "rumor" heard third-hand. We're not in that business, and if you dig that sort of thing, I'm sure you know were to find it.

3. We didn't talk about it in ATI, like we normally do when we get news, because we were concerned about the scoop getting into the hands of others in the media. We're nice guys, but we're competitors when it comes to breaking news as well.

4. We don't think, under any circumstances, that we hurt the team with this article. We thought about this a lot before we ran it. If anything, we believe the article will enhance the value of the team's third pick in this year's draft.

5. We have contacted the Browns multiple times to see if they wanted to deny the story. This includes multiple emails to normally responsive folks, as well as a phone call between myself and the team's VP of Communications.

Now, I'm going to lock this thread. John and I will take any questions you might have about the story via the ATI or Tap Room forums, or you can email either of us if need be.

The title can only be interpreted that Frye is gone and I don't have Insider access and I haven't seen a confirming story elsewhere but I would imagine something will break soon.

I read the article and it basically says the Browns are quietly shopping Frye and are considering taking Russell or Quinn.

In another article Weis seemed very impressed by Quinn's workout, saying that out of his 65 passes, only one of the five drops was his fault.

Romeo and the owner were also there and they only attend a few workouts a year.

I'm sure that the Browns are considering Quinn, just like they are considering Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, and trading down to pick up Alan Branch or Levi Jones. By the same token, I don't think the odds of them dumping Frye for Quinn are very high. I think the Browns feel like they need more line stability to be able to really evaluate where Charlie can take the team. Also, for this transaction to take place they would need to find a suitor for Frye (probably not very easy because of his lack of production) and a veteran to help develop Quinn. If there was one thing that Phil Savage was worried about it was tossing a rookie into the fire without any support. He didn't want Frye to get ruined like Tim Couch. There is some talk about the Browns looking for some experienced QBs (like Carr), but until we see a deal that brings a vet to Cleveland I don't think we're going to take Quinn.

If anything, I think the Browns front office refusing to deny a story like this just helps to confuse people who are trying to figure out where the Browns will go at #3. I think Phil Savage is one of the true experts at generating smoke screens
