This has surprised me -- I can't believe they don't have a dedicated Facebook app yet. But that HAS to be coming any minute now.Also, when you said you got all the classics for free, where did you download those from? From the iBooks store? Or somewhere else? There are a ton I've always wanted to re-read or catch up on.

I'm pretty sure they are working on it. Maybe they are trying to get the app to run the FB games. The iBook store. Search for "free" and the amount of books you can get is pretty amazing but they are older. It's girly but I have been reading Jane Austen. I'm also downloading Sherlock Holmes since I have never read the original books.

it depends on what I was doing - if I was listening to the ipod on my ipad, I would say it like that. if i was using the e-reader on the ipad I would say it like that. If I was listening to music via Pandora I might say I was listening to music on my ipad. Right now I use my phone as my ipod - and would probably say I was listening to the ipod on my phone.

Guy said that 80% of the iPads they sold were sold with that case. Also on the Apple store online for that case it just says it will ship in "late April."Bummer. Hmm, this seems like a major annoyance to me.I have a lot of pictures and music. I can load them into iTunes (my music is already in there), but I don't think I could come even remotely close to fitting them all on one of these at their current size.

Shame, cause that photo slideshow thing looks completely awesome. Having that in my living room to show people pictures would have been great.

There maybe no need for an app. I think iphone users may just be used to looking for apps for certain sites due to phone capabilities and just haven't thought to actually go onto the site. That's my excuse!

I played around with a coworker's iPad today for a minute or so. Pretty damn cool, and way thinner than I had imagined. I was prepared to hate the thing, but after checking out the e-reader app and UI, I came down with a serious case of tech lust.

I'm sure i would be impressed by it, may even think that its "cool". But If i'm at home and want the internet, i have my Desktop, Laptop, or ipod touch. If i'm on the road, chances are i need multi tasking to keep up with work, so i've got my laptop with a wireless dongle. If i want to watch a movie, i use my 55" plasma if at home. Or, my laptop or ipod if on the road.

FTR, i'm as much a techy as the next innerwebs guy. hell, i spend 10-12 hours/day online for my job. i just see no need for this thing.

The dude didnt buy a 499 ipad, so the whole premise of his rant is flawed.He bought the 3G capable, 64 GB one that isn't even out yet.

So I was debating whether to get an iPad or wait till a later generation. After all the positive reviews I decided to go to an apple store at lunch today to check one out in person. I fully expected it to be sold out so All I really wanted to do was put my hands on one. Turns out they had stock. Decided to take the plunge and get the $499 version.

Initial thoughts, so far I love it. Very surprised with the speed of this thing. I have an iPhone and love it but one gripe is how slow the programs load.

The screen is gorgeous and love the periodicals apps I've browsed so far. DL'ed a bunch of free apps so far including the news ones (NY times, AP etc). Love it so far, the touchscreen interface makes the newspaper type apps extremely cool. Being able to touch with article you want and have it fill the screen, or slide up/down to continue to read is very cool and intuitive. Sliding left or right to read the next "page" or article is almost like reading a real paper.

Can't wait to play around with it some more after DL'ing some games.

Still getting used to the keyboard but I think it'll be fine once i get used to it.

Even putting aside the fact that Apple's $499 iPad brings more to the table than just web browsing, the JooJoo is less portable, has a worse (if larger) screen, is unintuitive to use, and ships with half-baked software. 1) Even taking a nail directly to the screen won't scratch it.

Bummer but understandable:

2) The back can be somewhat easily scratched

Common Sense:

3) Pouring a gallon of coffee over it then rinsing/washing it under full power faucet for a minute will kill it.

4) Dropping it face down from 4' to concrete will break the screen after a couple drops

And somewhat troublesome:

5) Several drops from lap height to carpet can cause screen damage.

I'll try and take a stab and explain. Yes the website is exactly like browsing on a computer, however apps are really built with the touchscreen interface in mind. And for me, comparing a touchscreen UI vs a keyboard/mouse, it's no contest. Touchscreen is just way more fun and intuitive. Hard to explain if you've never have used a touchscreen extensively (the real advanced ones, not like the basic ones at a supermarket self checkout system).

Air Sharing is a great app. Can wirelessly find my iPad from my desktop and dump files onto it (PDF files for work etc) and view them. Can't view my word docs for some reason but will figure it out.

We commend the start-up on its nice piece of hardware design, but until the software is given some much-needed love and the price is seriously reevaluated we simply cannot recommend this tablet. To add insult to injury, Apple's entry level iPad provides a much more seamless and feature-packed experience, and there are plenty of $199-ish ARM-based tablets just around the corner. That would be a fair comparison except it's not. They're both $499

This is a classic case that harks back to all the "haters" who tout devices with far superior "specs". This JooJoo has a bigger screen with a much faster processor, 4x as much memory, displays Flash, etc... yet the end user experience is far far inferior to the iPad. Better hardware numbers doesn't always translate into a better product. GUI is Apple's specialty.

I'm certainly intrigued by this theoretical systems that everyone has in the works that all seem to have more powerful hardware... but I'm skeptical that anyone will have a better overall product/experience than the iPad. It could happen but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd agree if we were talking about a major hardware manufacturer running an OS like Chrome. Fusion Garage?

camera, flash, 12" LCD, 1.5Ghz Processor, 1GB RAM, elegant design, no buttons, etc etc etc

Point is... there are going to be a lot of these and Apple's the only one who's gotten it right yet. It's like the Nokia iPhone killer that htey had in the works. Commercials showed a gorgeous display with fluid touch-interface and great smooth transitions with iPhone-esque response times (instant).

The result of the manufactured product was noway near as smooth. the gorgeous transitions were gone. All smooth interfaces were jerky. Response was sluggish at best.

Again. Not saying that Apple will be the only ones to get it right... I just think we're a ways off from seeing a TRUE competitor.

Not unrealistic. It took the industry two years or so to really compete with iPhone. Same could happen here.

You really thought that Fusion Garage was going to come up with something that competed with the iPad? I've never even heard of them. I agree that having better specs doesn't automatically mean better user experience. Apple's interface trumps all right now. I think the real competition will come from Chrome/Android. I wouldn't put much stock in some small company with zero market share hyping themselves as the "iPad killers".

I checked one out today that my friend has. I really wanted to like it, but I can't. I was expecting it to be a lot nicer than it was. It is more portable than my 3 year old laptop, but it doesn't have near the same functionality. Is this supposed to be targeted as more of a mobile entertainment device than a home entertainment device? While it is certainly more mobile than a laptop computer, I don't see how I could lug it around just anywhere like a phone. I could maybe see myself picking one up for letting the kids use on road trips, or if I wanted to go outside and use a multimedia device, but beyond that, I am just not seeing the upside.

Maybe someone else could explain to me what niche this is supposed to fill. If I want to watch tv, I would prefer to watch it on my tv. I would rather browse the web from my laptop. I would prefer to stream music to my home theater system. I would prefer to type on my laptop. It is easier to read a book on then my laptop.
