I'm pretty sure they are working on it. Maybe they are trying to get the app to run the FB games. The iBook store. Search for "free" and the amount of books you can get is pretty amazing but they are older. It's girly but I have been reading Jane Austen. I'm also downloading Sherlock Holmes since I have never read the original books. This has surprised me -- I can't believe they don't have a dedicated Facebook app yet. But that HAS to be coming any minute now. Also, when you said you got all the classics for free, where did you download those from? From the iBooks store? Or somewhere else? There are a ton I've always wanted to re-read or catch up on.Facebook: The app is pretty blurry because they have not submitted a new app for ipad and you have to use the iphone app.
is that how you talk? Do you also use the safari to browse the Internet? And that's not how op worded it, just clarifying where the confusion came from.So if someone says I was listening to the ipod while on my ipad - you are concerned people won't know what you are talking about?![]()

it depends on what I was doing - if I was listening to the ipod on my ipad, I would say it like that. if i was using the e-reader on the ipad I would say it like that. If I was listening to music via Pandora I might say I was listening to music on my ipad. We use screen protectors for all our iphones/itouches and love them.I would not get the screen protector. I dont have one on my iphone. One of the biggest selling points, and nicest features of the iphone/ipod/ipad is the screen. Putting a protector over it definitely reduces the niceness of it.Went by the Apple store by central park over lunch to try and get the Apple case (the one that is slim and folds back to a stand as well). They were sold out. Guy said that 80% of the iPads they sold were sold with that case. Also on the Apple store online for that case it just says it will ship in "late April."Bummer. May need to pick something up in the interim. Anyone else have any good cases they've found? Also, I was planning to get a clear screen protector film like my friends have on their iPhones -- it reduces glare, protects the screen, and helps keep it smudge free. The guy at the store said not to bother with a screen protector, and they you don't need one for these new screens.I may get one anyway, if for no other reason than to keep smudges off.

I asked that earlier and I was told not without an ORB like APP.Trying to do the orb on my android tonight but as nice as the product is, I really hate how apple "locks it down" with certain things, I feel like the nickel and dime you, much like MS and the XboxBump. Can I view pictures with the iPad that are elsewhere on my home network?I have an actual question about this thing (sorry to detract from the Apple Vs Windows stuff):
I see they have this great picture viewing type stuff on the iPad. Do all those pictures have to be stored on the iPad, or could they be on my PC, or perhaps my Apple Time Capsule, and viewed on the iPad?
I ask this, cause I have quite a collection of pictures that would be really cool to view on these in the living room, but would vastly exceed the storage space I think...
In iBooks, search "Project Gutenberg". 30,000 free books. Also, when you said you got all the classics for free, where did you download those from? From the iBooks store? Or somewhere else? There are a ton I've always wanted to re-read or catch up on.
Hmm, this seems like a major annoyance to me.I have a lot of pictures and music. I can load them into iTunes (my music is already in there), but I don't think I could come even remotely close to fitting them all on one of these at their current size.I asked that earlier and I was told not without an ORB like APP.Trying to do the orb on my android tonight but as nice as the product is, I really hate how apple "locks it down" with certain things, I feel like the nickel and dime you, much like MS and the XboxBump. Can I view pictures with the iPad that are elsewhere on my home network?I have an actual question about this thing (sorry to detract from the Apple Vs Windows stuff):

Yes I know there are workarounds etc but I was told if I import everything into I tunes I should be ok..
OK. You guys have got to educate me on the apps usability thing. The ipad is excellent at browsing the web, right? Why would you use an app for facebook and not facebook.com like anyone on a desktop?JThis has surprised me -- I can't believe they don't have a dedicated Facebook app yet. There maybe no need for an app. I think iphone users may just be used to looking for apps for certain sites due to phone capabilities and just haven't thought to actually go onto the site. Good question. I understand the value of apps for phones in which full rendering of the webpage is nearly impossible, but on a device that is supposed to be the best browsing experience ever, why would anyone want an app instead of the actual webpage? Then again, I never understood the hype behind Apple having "10 million apps for that" when 99% are useless and aren't used within 30 days after installation.OK. I have run into a few sites that treat this as a mobile device and divert me to a mobile site.I expect they will get that fixed, and espn at least asked which site i wanted.Good question. Fortunately for you it's only $499.One thing that is shocking is that everyone who has tried it loves it. I've never seen a tech release with such overwhelming positive reviews.meh, i still dont need it. nothing against those who have one, i just have better things to spend $1k on![]()

The dude didnt buy a 499 ipad, so the whole premise of his rant is flawed. He bought the 3G capable, 64 GB one that isn't even out yet.$1170. why would anyone get one of these without a memory and wireless upgrade?Fortunately for you it's only $499.One thing that is shocking is that everyone who has tried it loves it. I'm sure i would be impressed by it, may even think that its "cool". But If i'm at home and want the internet, i have my Desktop, Laptop, or ipod touch. If i'm on the road, chances are i need multi tasking to keep up with work, so i've got my laptop with a wireless dongle. If i want to watch a movie, i use my 55" plasma if at home. Or, my laptop or ipod if on the road.
FTR, i'm as much a techy as the next innerwebs guy. hell, i spend 10-12 hours/day online for my job. i just see no need for this thing.
Now that is badass.http://www.soundmancaraudio.com/home/2010/...d-in-a-car.html

So I was debating whether to get an iPad or wait till a later generation. After all the positive reviews I decided to go to an apple store at lunch today to check one out in person. I fully expected it to be sold out so All I really wanted to do was put my hands on one. Turns out they had stock. Decided to take the plunge and get the $499 version. Initial thoughts, so far I love it. Very surprised with the speed of this thing. I have an iPhone and love it but one gripe is how slow the programs load. The screen is gorgeous and love the periodicals apps I've browsed so far. DL'ed a bunch of free apps so far including the news ones (NY times, AP etc). Love it so far, the touchscreen interface makes the newspaper type apps extremely cool. Being able to touch with article you want and have it fill the screen, or slide up/down to continue to read is very cool and intuitive. Sliding left or right to read the next "page" or article is almost like reading a real paper. Can't wait to play around with it some more after DL'ing some games.Still getting used to the keyboard but I think it'll be fine once i get used to it.

--There are just so many things we wish Fusion Garage did differently with the JooJoo. Even putting aside the fact that Apple's $499 iPad brings more to the table than just web browsing, the JooJoo is less portable, has a worse (if larger) screen, is unintuitive to use, and ships with half-baked software. We commend the start-up on its nice piece of hardware design, but until the software is given some much-needed love and the price is seriously reevaluated we simply cannot recommend this tablet. To add insult to injury, Apple's entry level iPad provides a much more seamless and feature-packed experience, and there are plenty of $199-ish ARM-based tablets just around the corner. We told you it was terrible timing. The one shining light we can see is that Fusion Garage has actually managed to finish and build this thing, which is a lot more than can be said for the dozens of ARM / Tegra / Fairy dust-powered, Android / Linux / CE-based tablet prototypes we've seen in the wild
I'll try and take a stab and explain. Yes the website is exactly like browsing on a computer, however apps are really built with the touchscreen interface in mind. And for me, comparing a touchscreen UI vs a keyboard/mouse, it's no contest. Touchscreen is just way more fun and intuitive. Hard to explain if you've never have used a touchscreen extensively (the real advanced ones, not like the basic ones at a supermarket self checkout system). Thanks One. This is a classic case that harks back to all the "haters" who tout devices with far superior "specs". This JooJoo has a bigger screen with a much faster processor, 4x as much memory, displays Flash, etc... yet the end user experience is far far inferior to the iPad. Better hardware numbers doesn't always translate into a better product. GUI is Apple's specialty.
I'm certainly intrigued by this theoretical systems that everyone has in the works that all seem to have more powerful hardware... but I'm skeptical that anyone will have a better overall product/experience than the iPad. It could happen but I'm not holding my breath.
I'd agree if we were talking about a major hardware manufacturer running an OS like Chrome. Fusion Garage?
Not unrealistic. It took the industry two years or so to really compete with iPhone. Same could happen here.Again. Not saying that Apple will be the only ones to get it right... I just think we're a ways off from seeing a TRUE competitor.
You really thought that Fusion Garage was going to come up with something that competed with the iPad? I've never even heard of them. I agree that having better specs doesn't automatically mean better user experience. Apple's interface trumps all right now. I think the real competition will come from Chrome/Android. I wouldn't put much stock in some small company with zero market share hyping themselves as the "iPad killers".I'd agree if we were talking about a major hardware manufacturer running an OS like Chrome. Fusion Garage? They sure tout it as the Shizz
camera, flash, 12" LCD, 1.5Ghz Processor, 1GB RAM, elegant design, no buttons, etc etc etc
Point is... there are going to be a lot of these and Apple's the only one who's gotten it right yet. It's like the Nokia iPhone killer that htey had in the works. Commercials showed a gorgeous display with fluid touch-interface and great smooth transitions with iPhone-esque response times (instant).
The result of the manufactured product was noway near as smooth. the gorgeous transitions were gone. All smooth interfaces were jerky. Response was sluggish at best.
Again. Not saying that Apple will be the only ones to get it right... I just think we're a ways off from seeing a TRUE competitor.

If it's not something you can put in your pocket, how are people planning on lugging it around?YesIs this supposed to be targeted as more of a mobile entertainment device than a home entertainment device?![]()
