is it appropriate to call myself a CEO? (1 Viewer)

The amount im willing to do a custom shirt for is very low considering it includes the original signed artwork.

If I die you actually can make a profit.

Also about etsy, I have looked in to this a little for my wife. One recommendation I saw a lot was to start blogging to help build a fanbase.

I guess the FFA kinda is your blog but, just another idea.
Im going to use social media for that. I dont write enough to do a true blog I think. Its definitely something to consider though.
Weren't you planning on writing a novel?
It wasnt happening. Im just not a writer.

Start doing the work and making money before getting all cocky about it.
Im thinking in to the future.

Original artwork can be a valuable thing.
Or it can be worth less than the paper it's printed on.

Worry about making money, not being famous.

Dear lord. You and Eminence crack me up with how you have things planned so far out in the future but have no grasp on the present.

That is what I am focusing on, which is why im producing a practical product rather than just be an artist.

I tried, I just didnt enjoy writing so I moved on to something that im happy doing and much better suited to.

Im a visual storyteller. Not a writer.

Id also like to do an FBG exclusive shirt. Everyone could chip in for that one and wear them to cornholes.

I just want to see cornhole pics because I obviously wont be invited.

I started an LLC and im getting business cards printed soon. Its a t shirt business with products I design.

Is it douchy to put CEO on my card?

I was thinking of putting.....

CEO/Master Illustrator

If this isnt appropriate then what is?
I had a small business once. Initially I had a co-owner who wanted to put CEO on his card. I thought it was a little pretentious for a company with 4 employees and under $1M in sales. That's just me personally. He put CEO, I put "owner." I don't think CEO is "incorrect," but CEO's usually are elected officials that report to a board of directors...which I doubt you have. "President" would probably be more fitting, but honestly even that is a little pretentious for my liking in smaller companies.

If it were me, I'd put "owner" or "proprietor." The other titles indicate some form of seniority...you can't really be senior in a 1-man organization.
This
This is wrong. Any owners of a small business can be the CEO, even if it is a one person company. It's not pretencious or conceited. It's what it is.
I never said he couldn't be a CEO. I said that, in my opinion, an opinion I seem to share with at least a few people on this board, it's a little pretentious, and provided several reasons why I thought that.

I don't give a flying F what you call yourself. No sweat off my back. I'm simply providing my input. Just consider that if a few people here find it pretentious, a few of your potential customers might find it pretentious too.

This what I was thinking. Regardless of how much the company grows I will always be the most senior member of the organization.Im just worried about looking like a ##### by putting CEO on my card. I just want to convey that I am the head honcho and anyone who would like to do business with the company in capacity can communicate with me on all matters
And to this part...when your organization grows, you can call yourself that much more easily. As of right now though, yes, you're the most senior...and the most junior.
I guess I just don't understand why calling yourself what you are is pretentious. When I started my business we had no revenue and no sales, but my partner was the CEO and I was President. We didn't think twice about it.

Like I said...That's just my opinion. You're entitled to yours too. My biggest issue hoenstly was that you just flat out said that I was wrong and I was only stating my view. I'm sure you'll find folks on both sides of the argument. Ultimately, 80% of the population probably wouldn't have a strong opinion either way. Some, like myself, might find it a little pretentious, some like you won't think twice. Just my personal belief, and honestly, I'm probably a little skewed by my previous experience.

It's kind of like how some people love Richard Sherman because he's very cocky and backs it up on the playing field, while others can't stand him because he's cocky and they prefer someone a little more humble, even if he is great at what he does.

Totally understand where you are coming from - especially since you've had a bad experience with your old partner. The pretentious part is an opinion that we just disagree on.

My "wrong" comment was geared more towards you saying: "I don't think CEO is "incorrect," but CEO's usually are elected officials that report to a board of directors...which I doubt you have."

I was pointing out that the owner of a small business can also be called a "CEO" even though there is no board of directors, and it is perfectly acceptable to do that.

Fair...but they are usually board elected and report to a BOD...I agree that it's not a requirement, and also that there's nothing that says smaller companies without boards can't have CEO's.
