Stupid poll options, unless it was either yes or no. Or:

1- Yes because parents should let their children do whatever they want even if it is assaulting police officers where he will end up in prison

2- No. Children deserve to be beat.

Either way, pretty easy NO here.

I don't have a problem with the way she handled it. That "beating" could save her son's life one day.

When my daughter was 2, I remember she ran off away from me towards the street. I grabbed her, gave her a quick (pretty light) swat to the butt before telling her never to do that. I don't consider myself a child abuser because of it.

That's pretty much how I see what that mother did. It didn't look like she hit him hard enough to even hurt him (I wouldn't say she "beat" him), but I bet it helped get the message across.

She took the right course, but she stopped short of the proper destination. She needed to stick her foot firmly up his ###, or to have rolled his head right off his shoulders. Still, a nice start and correct use of discipline.

That was nothing more than trying to knock some sense into him. Hopefully it worked.

All I know is he's gonna get "heckled" by all his friends for days.

She could be, but I would need to see more signs of abuse other than a few smacks to the head before I could make any conclusions.

All I know if that was my mother and I raised my hands toward her regardless of the reason why my father would have taken my head off. No boy should be ever be disrespecting his mother. Kid got what he deserved and should have gotten more.

Given our current culture what she did was fine.

But- I would like to live in a culture where ANY hitting of minors by adults is considered unacceptable behavior. We're not there yet and may never be, but I think we'd be better off if we were.

Not sure when in this situation the guy outgrows being a minor. He is taller than his mom. She can hit him when he is being stupid and breaking the law.

The three who say yes. May I ask what is your reason. Is it the head blows?
It looked like she was trying to hit him upside the back of the head. She was interviewed this morning, and was asked what her kid said to her once she opened up a can of whoopass on him, and she said he was saying, "Ok, Ok, Mom, Ok Mom..." She was also asked what she thought to herself when she saw herself on TV, and she said, "What is my pastor going to think." She said she knew it was her son when she saw the baggy sweatpants and locked eyes with him. She said throwing bricks and rocks at the police is totally unacceptable. She also said she doesn't want to lose her son to the streets, but there is only so much she can do to protect him.
