ita official. I'm leaving to take over the Dallas office on October 1st (1 Viewer)

Congrats! I hope the CEO approves it.  No matter how it works out for the company, it will be a good experience for you.

'Branch manager.'  'Staffing agency.'  28k base salary.

Theres a pretty good chance this is a front for coyotes, right?

do people that make 28k in NYC often get offered to relocate to other cities with 50% pay bumps to run business operations?

isn't 28k in NYC the equivalent of fast food money in other towns? like, just barely scraping by if you get all the right breaks.

i don't recall being 16 and having my boss offer to fly me to Kansas City to open a new sub shop for him.

28k is less than scraping by. Which is why our hero lived in halfway housing and repainted his future-ex-MIL's kitchen in exchange for room and board.

28K is fast food money everywhere

What is the downside if you say no?

Worst case scenario:. They dump you because you did not want the fast path.

Take the job.  Don't look back.  Bust it for a few years and ramp up your earning potential.

What type of staffing agency?

Big difference if it's all manufacturing/clerical/light industrial vs. professional/technical.

Staffing agencies are a dime a dozen and if your company currently has zero presence in the Dallas area, it will take years to build a profitable business, let alone expand into 3 or more metro markets within 2 years.

If you specialize in a higher margin type of agency and you have a solid sales and recruiting team, it's possible.  But there are plenty of staffing agencies in every metro city - new ones come and go in double digits every year.

Backstory please.
it's the mc gas money guy.  he does this stuff for attention.  has posted multiple stories in the past of him having all kind of different jobs.  was a truck driver at one point.  hell last week he started a thread asking for advice on starting a food truck.  now he's moving to dallas to manage a ####### branch?  give me a break.

Hold on.....do falafel stands have branch managers?

Yeah, this isn't plausible at all.  No company will pay to relocate a 28k employee unless you are military.  They'd be far better off just paying 50k to someone qualified in the area they are opening new branches. BS index is off the charts

Yeah this is just silly.  I also can't imagine why anyone would want to deal with managing people for 42k (regardless of market). Talk about a headache with very little payoff.

1 week is plenty of time to decide.  I wouldn't even visit your new work location or find a realtor.  I don't think much research is required.

i wouldn't just go anywhere if the opportunity was right.  life is not about risk taking and discovering new things, play it safe here.

:lmao:  ok thanks.  I don't have the energy to keep up with all this ####.  Is he also Eminence?

RokNRole's boss: How do we get rid of this guy? We can't fire him or he'll sue for discrimination. And those damn liberals at the New York Unemployment Office will give him full benefits.

CEO: Hmmm. You know, Texas is the most business-friendly state in the country. Employees have zero rights in Texas. Don't we have a branch down there?

RokNRole's boss: Yep.

CEO: Perfect. Let's transfer him to Texas.

The 28k ruins the story as it just can't be plausible for any real job in NY.

I am retired, work part time where I basically do absolutely nothing and still make more than that on a hourly basis.

Assuming this is a full time job, I think that equates to under $14 an hour.   If I am not mistaken, NY just signed a bill to raise the minimun wage to $15 with in the next year or so.

Let me know how that crow tastes

They will for the right person to promote them.

ive always done what was asked if me.

One thing to look out for: if they put you on a plane, make sure it's a commercial airliner that is actually going to Texas. If it's any kind of private plane, cargo plane, etc., I wouldn't get on under any circumstances.
I'll probably drive down in a u- haul with my stuff

congrats... I agreed with wikkid about making the move out of NYC regardless of the position- while you're youngish and unattached to anything here. given your recent update, it's a no-brainer.

I can imagine how difficult it is for you to make friends. It's not, btw, your residence in your Mom's basement which is the impediment, but rather your personality.  Still, I wish you well in your threads like this one.  It is better that you continue to practice interacting with others, if only on this level, and fail, than that you give up and descend again to your former activities of scratching until you bleed, gnawing on insulation, and pleasuring yourself into tubes of Oscar Meyer Braunschweiger.
