Best owner here that watched every play (been watching football for 35 years). I wasn't impressed at all. I'm not going to say he won't have his moments, but he is very small and didn't have the burst (today) or elusiveness that I have read about. There wasn't a whole lot of holes to run through, but I was looking for a guy that hits the holes hard and makes people miss. He did neither. He hit the hole slow with those little steps. In fact, he looked like a slower Darrin Sproles with maybe a little more drive after contact. I say MAYBE. I don't think the playcalling helped him any. The Lions brought a VERY conservative gameplan for this one. They waited until the last minute of the game to feed the ball to C. Johnson. They need to be doing that from the opening kickoff (as Tim eluded to) to open up the running game. He may be the biggest mismatch in the league for any corner. Hopefully getting Best on the turf will make him look different, but he did nothing (aside from 2 touchdowns) TODAY that a ton of backs over the years have done. I hope i am wrong going forward.
The problem the lions had was play calling. Not until the last drive did the Lions make any threat to throw down field. They could have played 10 men in the box with the Lions play calling.
I won't disagree with that. I guess I had a much different back in my mind and will admit I have seen him run very little until today. Again, I'm going to keep him on my team and will play him a lot of time in my flex position (also have Turner and Benson). To sum it up, I was looking for that special player today, and maybe it's because of playcalling, offensive line or being his first game, but what I watched was not a guy that seemed to have that special something that sets him apart from anyone else. I will gladly come back when he shows me that and admit he has IT.
