CBS saying he was taking snaps today as wildcat QB
He ran the wildcat at Cal. In fact, the TD he got injured on was out of the wildcat. (Well, not exactly; he was lined up as shotgun QB, but I don't think it was technically the wildcat as it didn't have a second RB in motion).

The only time to trade Best is right now. Expectations are so high he can't possibly match them.

The only time to trade for Best is if he has a terrible game against Chicago. I don't see it happening but it will be your only chance.

You think he can't possibly match being the 19th best RB? That's where he's being drafted since August 25 according to MFL. #18 in PPR leagues. He may or may not meet that expectation, but I think it's obvious that he can.

I think the window of opportunity to trade for Best is bigger than just this week. Look at his upcoming schedule. His next three games are against the Eagles, Vikings, and Packers. That is a very rough schedule against the run. I'm planning on putting out some offers after week 3. As long as he doesn't blow up against the Bears this weekend, I think his owners may be frustrated with his production by then and not looking forward to his match up against the Vikings.

 Why would you trade him? Unless you are going to get a top ten player, what is the upside in doing such a trade? I remember all the people who traded Ray Rice last year after two pretty good, but not spectacular weeks. That turned out pretty well, right?

Vikings run D is overrated....DTs get old real quick in the NFL and Minnesota's are past their prime. Plenty of rbs were able to score on them last year. I am a Packer fan, and I have a pretty large feeling that there will be many 35 - 28 games played this year with that team. Philly...I don't know if they scare me too much either.Anyways, my guess is that after Sunday, not many people will be talking about trades with this guy.

Because the hype is so big on him you probably could get a top 10 RB in return.

I hate that the player I'm most excited about this year is playing against the Bears week 1. I won't be cheering for Best during the game but I wouldn't mind a nice box score after the fact in a 45-38 Bears win. Yes, 45-38.

Been there, done that, Cedric Benson vs NE this week. Offering my premature consolation for the schmack down that Best will drop on your team, it will not end well.

hes being drafted in the 3rd or 4th round...hes certainly not actually considered a sure stud yet.

Detroit is going to be playing from behind a lot this year. Does everyone think he'll get enough touches to put together the 1,500-1,600 total yd season that everyone is expecting?
Detroit has one of the best defensive front fours in the game. It will make their horrible secondary and their less than stellar linebackers look better. Detroits defense will go from one of the worst, to one that is a bit below average. Detroit's offense is dare I say, going to break into the top 10. Detroit will not make the playoffs, but they will have a competitive football team. They will have a well balanced offense and Best will be the focal point.
I agree with the talent of the front 4 and I agree about the offense having top 10 potential. However, I think the Lions defense will once again be amongst the leagues worst. Any team that can spread the field and make quick throws will eat us alive. We have 1 healthy NFL caliber LB, Delmas isn't 100%, an undrafted free agent at the other safety spot, and 1 NFL caliber starting CB. When you factor in the other inevitable injuries, our defense is going to get picked apart.
The reason "they" all say to pick defense and kickers last is because of the unpredictibility of them both. I'm not a Lion fan, or even a Best fan per se, but you never know how a defense is going to turn out until you're into the season. NFL is one of those sports where undrafted players can turn into studs. You just never know. Coaching is perhaps more important than talent (since they are all physical studs). So, i'm not saying that Detriot will be the Ravens defense from their super bowl year, but i am saying you just don't know. For anyone wondering, i am in 3 leagues. In my first 10 team 2-keeper league, i got both Spiller and Best at 70, and 50 respectively. In my other league i didn't get either. Last night in my "main" dynasty league (start up this year), a 12 teamer, i had it planned to take Spiller at 36/37, but when he wasn't there i took Best instead. While i got both a lot later in the first league, I would much rather be in my main dynasty league where i had to take him at 36/37. Why? Because any league where Best/Spiller last until pick 50, 60, or 70, is a weak league with a bunch of novices. My league last night was a shark league, guys who knew what they were doing. And I'm glad i got him at 36/37.

I imagine some people are going to jump off the hype train after this week, despite the 2 touchdowns. In the game thread, there were a few people really ripping on him- "Best sucks" was a constant refrain.

I'm not worried. He played on the road against one of the better defenses in the league against the run, especially with Uhrlacher back. There simply wasn't any room for Best today. My one concern is that when the Bears brought their safeties in, Detroit never tried to go down the field. You've got to stretch the field to allow room for your running back. But I think that they will address this during the week. Best is going to have much better games this year.

I think you're giving the Bears run D too much...no, far too much credit.
There simply wasn't any room for Best today.
And I fear that this may be the case more often than not this year.
Best is going to have much better games this year.
I agree wholeheartedly with this.

Best owner here that watched every play (been watching football for 35 years). I wasn't impressed at all. I'm not going to say he won't have his moments, but he is very small and didn't have the burst (today) or elusiveness that I have read about. There wasn't a whole lot of holes to run through, but I was looking for a guy that hits the holes hard and makes people miss. He did neither. He hit the hole slow with those little steps. In fact, he looked like a slower Darrin Sproles with maybe a little more drive after contact. I say MAYBE. I don't think the playcalling helped him any. The Lions brought a VERY conservative gameplan for this one. They waited until the last minute of the game to feed the ball to C. Johnson. They need to be doing that from the opening kickoff (as Tim eluded to) to open up the running game. He may be the biggest mismatch in the league for any corner. Hopefully getting Best on the turf will make him look different, but he did nothing (aside from 2 touchdowns) TODAY that a ton of backs over the years have done. I hope i am wrong going forward.

The problem the lions had was play calling. Not until the last drive did the Lions make any threat to throw down field. They could have played 10 men in the box with the Lions play calling.

I won't disagree with that. I guess I had a much different back in my mind and will admit I have seen him run very little until today. Again, I'm going to keep him on my team and will play him a lot of time in my flex position (also have Turner and Benson). To sum it up, I was looking for that special player today, and maybe it's because of playcalling, offensive line or being his first game, but what I watched was not a guy that seemed to have that special something that sets him apart from anyone else. I will gladly come back when he shows me that and admit he has IT.

Could be worse, he could be Spiller. Who also looked terrible.

if the point you're trying to make is that the Lions don't have an offensive line, I would like to know what you're basing that on. The yards per carry average of Kevin Smith, an average running back?
I'm basing it on me watching them play. But I guess if you want me to cite some objective experts, FO had their line last year rated at 29/22 run/pass. They gave up 43 sacks, which is ungood.
From FBG's analysis of the Eagles game:It's also worth noting that blocking for the Lions all-around was exceptional, including great efforts downfield from the Lions receivers and tight ends. ROBOPUNTER, I'd like to hear your educated rebuttal.

do you bench him at Minny?

just askin.

BTW - I think he's a must start.

Since he has proven to be so effective in the passing game, I don't think when he faces a tough run D you would automatically bench him or even strongly consider it.

Glad I traded him in Dynasty a few days ago.

Best, Stafford, B Marsh, 2nd round rookie pick in 2013 for Brady, A Peterson, R Moss and Daniels.

:championship:

(KFFL) Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best (toe) suffered a toe injury in Week 3 and is questionable to return, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

:bag:They were bad last year. No one gave me any evidence, including you that their OL would be so much better than it was last year. I haven't seen enough Lions games to determine how much better they got. But thanks for the bizarre response.

What's the deal wiyth Best? Isd it time to givbe up on him yet? I'm gettting squatt producition out of hjim at this pont.
Wow, were you having a seizure while typing this? :goodposting: I agree, Best has been pooping the bed like his name was Frank Reynolds. You can do nothing but hold on to him for now and hope for the best. The time to "sell high" has passed, unless you're in a keeper/dynasty. He's technically still a starting RB on a good offense, and he's certainly shown his upside already.
