Jake Locker (1 Viewer)

Right now I would not want a fantasy WR with this guy at QB.
Jake Locker will be the next Brett Favre only better.
I think the better analogy is Donovan McNabb, who had accuracy issues throughout his career, but was a fairly good real world and fantasty QB (never won a Super Bowl, but his teams in Philidelphia were always in contention).
I am not the only one seeing a similarity to McNabb:http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6424/jake-locker
After viewing Jake Locker's preseason throws, The Sideline View's Adam Caplan likens him to Donovan McNabb in terms of passing mechanics and overall skill set. This was the comparison we made, as well, after viewing Locker's 2011 action off the bench. Caplan has been critical of Locker's accuracy woes, which were evident even as he compiled a 4:0 TD-to-INT ratio in limited rookie duty and have continued into the 2012 preseason. Locker has completed just 50 percent of his August throws. He can compensate some with playmaking ability and big-time vertical throwing ability, but Locker may never be a truly efficient passer. I like the kids decision making, and his athleticism. His accuracy seems likely to limit his ceiling though. Hard to see this guy as a potential future fantasy stud but he should be a decent NFL starter, and likely higher end fantasy QB2 (in the future...lower end this year.)

So you're saying he'll be a top 5 fantasy QB in his 2nd year like McNabb was? :excited:
Nope, not this year, but eventually I do see McNabb as being his upside - a perennial top 5-8 QB.

Joke was back to his usual ways this week.Saw this on NFL.com last night from Brian Billick:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000063890/article/dolphins-need-to-move-ryan-tannehill-eagles-have-dilemma?module=HP11_cp

No hope in Tennessee? After a full rookie season and another two games as a sophomore, Jake Locker looks behind in his development compared to rookies Luck and Griffin. Locker is a great athlete, but I'm not sure he has the subtleties to play QB in the NFL. He struggles to slide and climb in the pocket to avoid the rush and keep his eyes down the field. He completed just 50 percent of his passes in Week 2, the same problem he had in college. After more than 16 months of being an NFL quarterback, you would like to see more development at this stage.

The only thing that's worrisome is that he'll always be an injury risk with his reckless style.

I should've known not to bump the thread. Guaranteed karma whiplash. Jekkyl Locker had a big game today, but next week Mr. Hyde will be back for his usual 50% completion percentage and three INTs. :boxing:

Sounds like he is done for the year. But without the MRI gotta wait till tomorrow.

It did look nasty.....he was in a lot of pain. If they fear the worst that is at least a 3rd degree.

I ended up dropping him today because I needed to get a plan into place. It seems like we should be hearing something by now...

Any updates from what anyone else is heard outside of "may" need surgery and "may not?"
They are still mulling it over. He'll either be out two games (my guess) or the entire season.I'm so disappointed. I snatched him up in a dynasty league and I had such high hopes for him, but he seems snake-bitten.

Snake bitten? He has a shoulder injury that is reinjured the first year he is a starter - so afer 4 games you write him off as snake-bitten. I guess Stafford was snake-bitten too with injuries and Bradford also, if you go back to his college days. Injuries happen - at this juncture of his career to say he is snake-bitten is a bit of an overreaction.

Which part of this definition doesn't apply to Locker's current situation?
snakebitten - adj.

Experiencing a period of misfortune or inability to succeed.

I wouldn't call this "a period" He came back from the first injury without missing any games, so this becomes the first time he has missed games as a result of injury.I think people think of "snake-bitten" as a series of, or several, unfortunate incidents.

For those of you mentioning surgery, according to CBSSports:

Jake Locker, QB, TEN

News: Titans coach Mike Munchak announced Wednesday quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will replace the injured Jake Locker (shoulder) Week 5 at Minnesota. Munchak said he is uncertain about Locker's status beyond Week 5, but added at this point there is no need for Locker to have surgery. Locker said he's encouraged he won't need surgery and will play "with no reservations" as soon as he's ready.

Analysis: Locker's left shoulder popped out of place for the second time this season Week 4, so the Titans are going to rest him this time around in hopes he won't have another setback. It seems they are going to treat him as week to week, so Fantasy owners will have to keep tabs on his progress. Stash him on your bench in deeper formats while he recovers.

I think the Titans have decided in the past hour and a half to put off the shoulder surgery.Hasselbeck is dreadful.
they have a Thursday game coming up, right? I'd expect Hass to start that game, before Locker returns.

As expected.

The Titans have ruled out Jake Locker (shoulder) for Thursday night's game against the Steelers.Struggling Matt Hasselbeck will get another start in a brutal matchup, and he'll be backed up by Rusty Smith. Coach Mike Munchak indicated the Titans are hopeful Locker can return in Week 7 against the Bills
Awesome that they're no longer talking surgery anymore. Give the kid one more shot to NOT get injured.

Titans coach Mike Munchak reiterated Friday that he's "hopeful" Jake Locker (shoulder) will practice next week and start in Week 7.

Munchak essentially confirmed that there's no quarterback controversy in Nashville, despite Matt Hasselbeck's Thursday night upset win over the Steelers. Locker is the starter when healthy. The 2-4 Titans could get back to .500 with wins over the Bills in Week 7 and Colts in Week 8. Buffalo's defense has been terrible, so Locker could reemerge quickly as a productive fantasy QB2.
Well that's good news. I gotta admit, the bolded occurred to me as a possibility. Even though Hass looked terrible the game before, he played well last night.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am a Peyton (week 7 bye) owner, with only Locker as a backup and a grand total of 0 starting NFL QBs available on the waiver wire. I woke up this morning with a queasy feeling that I would be rolling with Colin Kapernick next week.

He should do pretty well in the quarter and a half before his shoulder pops out again.

Agreed. I am hoping in the quarter and a half he outscores Tyler Thigpen, who is my second best option

With Locker presumed this week's starter in Tennessee, is anyone considering a preemptive stash add now before the bye week? Titans defense is turrible and Locker could be the garbage time QB king down the stretch of the fantasy season.

I never dropped him. :shrug:Admittedly, I'm this kid's biggest fan... going back to when he played at Washington. I think he's got a ton of talent. If he ever gets to the point where he consistently makes good decisions and uses his God-given ability to scramble more, he'll be fantastic.I should point out that I'm in a start-2 QB league and my only other options for QB2 are Ponder and Bradford. :X

I am a fan as well - although probably carry a little more reservation. It would be nice to see him stay healthy enough to judge his progress. He certainly has the physical makeup of a quarterback who can be a weapon. I do worry about his accuracy but that is something that will have to be evaluated after he gets a stretch of time as a starter.

I am stashing. I think he's a nice hedge for those that are currently starting struggling QB's such as Rivers and Vick.

You speak to me. He'd be a luxury 3rd QB, for now. But I worry that if he goes off against Miami, it will be a bidding war to get him later and I'll miss out since I'm dead broke in FAAB budget. Vick is no sure bet going into the fantasy playoffs.

picked him up this week in my shallow keeper league. i start two QBs and am seriously considering going with palmer and locker and sitting vick.

miami is 31st against the pass.

In a 12team league, I have Vick as my starter, but I'm really considering going with Locker this week.

Dallas Pass D is solid and Philly O-Line is unbelievably awful.

Locker, on the other hand, is facing a Pass defense that just allowed Andrew Luck to break the rookie passing record. He also has real weapons in Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, Jared Cook, and Chris Johnson. Miami won't have much of an answer on the back end of the defense, and another positive is that Miami's run D is no joke. I don't expect CJ2K to have a ton of room to run, so going to the air may be the answer.

I have the same 3 QB's and I did notice that Miami pass rank too. Wasn't sure about starting Locker right off the bat, but Vick is a risky start just to hope he doesn't get injured behind that jailbreak line, and Palmer could be in for a long day playing out East in a 10AM start. Locker might be a nice what-the-heck start this week.

It's interesting that a few of us are on the same page regarding Locker. I'm big fan of his and the only thing really holding me back is the fact that it's his first game back, but as mentioned he couldn't really have a better passing matchup.

My projection this week: 29-43 295yds 2TDs, 4att 25RushYds

Didn't see the game, but the Box score looks pretty bad. I was thinking future top 10 before the season, but I'm ready to sell.

He's very rough around the edges, no doubt about that. In his defense he should've had at least one other TD (Washington bobbled an easy catch in the end zone) and maybe a second on a pass to Williams that was ruled out of bounds (officials reportedly said after the game if it had been ruled a TD on the field it would not have been overturned). But he made a number of really bad throws. I'm not sure what to make of him either. I thought he could be a nice QB2 for the stretch run given his schedule and the talent the Titans have at the skill positions but after yesterday I have my doubts about him too.

Good points about the two "almost" touchdowns. I think the Williams play might have actually been one. I watched him closely in this game and he does make some very nicely placed throws right on the money. Other times he looks a bit shaky though. I think overall, he had a better game than his final stats indicated. He also seems a bit more accurate and comfortable makings throws outside the pocket. I've been trying to tier several of the young quarterbacks in the league including Locker, Tannehill, and Wilson and have a hard time deciding what order to place them in.
