I just read through the Raiders recent beat writer tweets.  They said murray has shed the boot and is upgraded from doubtful to questionable.  Working with his shoes to handle the toe injury.  Sounds like they may let him play.  It's dumb, but that kinda sounds like the raiders.

Do not confuse the new Raiders with the old Raiders.  If Murray is not looking good, he will be benched for the rookies.  The Raiders are not afraid to give both rookies snaps as shown by the usage in the last couple of weeks. 

 
Have Washington rostered but not Richard. Picked up Corey Coleman a few days ago to sit on him. Better to stand pat or drop Coleman and get Richard too? Also have Smallwood as a lotto ticket.

I wouldn't drop Coleman. He should be good once his hand has healed.

Ryan Matthews is expected to play for the Eagles this week but Smallwood is another decent prospect to hang on to.

I dunno you would need to cut someone obviously to make room for RIchard. Tough call. One thing that I think is in Washington/Richards favor compared to Smallwood is that they are being used more as receivers, while the Eagles have thrown almost exclusively to Sproles and barely at all to their other RBs (only 2 targets between them).

I have to wonder what your other cut options might be as I think all of these players are worth having. If Matthews is back this week, the short term opportunity may be better for Washington and Richard.

So just drop Brotles then. He is on bye this week. Winston will be on by next week, so you would need to pick up another QB then. If this isn't a 2QB leauge or 16 teamer you should be fine.

Bortles does have a nice match up against the Bears in week 6 but there are likely other QBs you could pick up should someone snag him.

That is probably what I would do.

With Murray injured and not a lot on the WW (16-team league), I have to start him this week, but I don't feel good about it. The one thing that makes me feel a little better is that they've been splitting up the touches all season, so hopefully all of them get a little bump rather than Washington getting all of Murray's touches.

I think they will

  Worst case is murray doesn't sit and it's the 3 or 4 man horror show its been all season.  Don't forget about the fb stealing GL carries

Are you allowed to start a player on BYE? If so (and depending on DST scoring in your league), I might eat the donut at DST for one week to keep from dropping a player I want to hang on to. I have done that before. Vikes DST been on fire but what is typically a good week for DST in that league? Possibly another option for you...

 
ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Raiders plan to ride the running back who shows the hottest hand Sunday versus San Diego.
"Carries distributed evenly, then favor the hot hand," a Raiders source told Caplan. We're still expecting DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard to end up with a similar amount of work. We lean slightly toward Washington as an RB2 play, but Richard is absolutely at the higher end of flex-play discussions.

Didn't want to get stuck with the wrong OAK lotto ticket so i waited until 1 minute before the Browns kickoff and dropped Corey Coleman and picked up Richard too. This way i can bid on Coleman next week if i decide i want to try get him back.

 
If I could have gotten Washington, I would have started him, but had to settle for Richard. Was literally thinking at the beginning of the game "If he can just get me 10 points, I'll be happy." MIssion accomplished.

I would think you can drop Smallwood now that Matthews is back for Coleman.

Smallwood did have a good game when Matthews was out, but did nothing with him back in.

Richard did better than Washington although they split opportunities pretty evenly. A situation that likely continues (the split that is).

Richard out-performed Washington today, but not by enough that I think Oakland's approach is going to change going forward. Coaching staff has made it very clear all season that they're going to maintain a relatively even split. Frustrating for fantasy owners, but it's working pretty well in real-world terms.

 
Richard had about 15 in PPR...I don't mind Richard in a split of any kind but he has proven he should get about 40% of the touches and if Washington is the lead back then it should be Richard/Wash or if it's Murray then Richard/Murray. Oakland has at least one half of a potentially explosive back field IMHO. I love the way he runs and moves. He is short and tough to pick up. 

 
25 for 175 and then 11/105 out of the backfield. 7 yds a clip on the ground...I know the number is skewed but he looks like he could break one at any moment when he finds the right hole. Almost 10 yds a clip receiving. He needs open space but when he finds it he can exploit it. 

 
Slightly more muscular version of Sproles and you know what he can do in the right offense. I see Richard hauling in 50 to 60 balls the rest of the way. Oakland needs a 3rd weapon in the passing game, this is their best option. He adds a lot of speed to go with Amari Cooper up top. Crabtree working the middle, this gets dicey for a defense real quick. 

 
I'd have to watch the film but from what I saw, Richard wasn't getting hit in the backfield the way Washington was  or getting his big runs taken away by penalties like Washington was. That's the way the cookie crumbles though. Peg him as good flex as long as Murray is out

I count one run for Washington for 7 yards negated by a holding penalty. And were they not running behind the same line? Maybe Richard is just more elusive.

I may have exaggerated the penalty thing, it really left a bad taste in my mouth when it happened. But no, it was not solely because of Richard that he did well where Washington did not. When you are getting no gain or negative gains, I rarely blame the RB unless he's running for the side line. Washington was getting hit in the backfield much more often than Richard. Maybe the roles they were to be slated for were obvious early on with Richard the passing guy and Washington the runner and thus they sold out for the run when Washington was in. I don't know, I'm just saying that Washington wasn't given a fair shake by the offensive line for whatever reason. Doesn't matter though, Richard is the hot hand right now, he got the yards, especially in the passing game.

People hate this but if we take out the longest run for each and recalculate the numbers we find the following:

  • 140 rush yards
  • 4.5 yards per carry
  • 0 TDs

  • 100 yards
  • 4.1 yards per carry
  • 0 TDs
Washington has a long run of 30 yards but he also has runs of 28 and 26 so he is hitting long runs more often but Richard longest run outside of his lone 75 yard TD scamper is 10 yards.  His second longest run is only 9 yards.

They both are physically similar with Washington standing at 5'8 and 204 lbs and Richard at 5'8 and 208 lbs.  

I was hoping to find more separation since the raw numbers seemed to suggest Richard was better but I dunno.  They are very similar to each other.

Excellent work however I believe this is the wrong approach. I feel like this offense requires 2 backs and JDR said they plan on using them all. Richard and Washington have diff styles. I feel that Riachard is more dangerous in open space and that shows up in his ability in the passing game. He is a complete mismatch for most LBs. 

i don't believe any of them will get a hundred percent of the touches like other teams who have a bell cow. It's find to like both rookies and I see Washington taking Murray's role at some point but then it will be a 60/40 split in snaps with Wash/Richard. I didn't think Murray would land on the bench but I'm changing that view a little. 

I'm not trying to do a Murray 60 percent and then 40 to either Rich/Wash...I think Richard is going to be involved in the passing game more and Washington more the ground although he can catch. 

I would keep an open mind, again excellent work

The common approach it seems is to always label the smaller back as the CoP guy, but looking at what Oakland has here, the better approach might be to incorporate (and alternate) two backs who fit your game plan to a tee, and as the game wears on, the back on the field is fresh and hungry.  Richard and Washington splitting 22-32 carries a game 50/50 is the way I would go if an NFL owner was paying me to make these decisions. Maybe bring in an Andre Williams on a league minimum contract for the express purpose of dishing out punishment and delivering a few body blows.

 
I've been ingrained in this mess since the beginning in 3 leagues because of drafting plus WW moves and yes there is value to  be had here but man is it messy to sort out. All I can say is that those that throw their hands up in the air and say 3 man rbbc no value here are wrong, i have enough FF experience to know that eventually there will be a solid rb1/2 here in ppr, we just don't know who yet. happy guessing friends.

Why is it an eventuality that OAK will stop using these guys the way they have been for the first 5 games?

 
Now is the time to buy in dynasty leagues.  Go lowball all those salty Richard owners that started him this week looking for the matchup.

Resurfacing this post from Mass -- indeed, looked like the Raiders were trying to feed Murray to get him back on track after his toe issue. I think we're looking at the proverbial 3 headed monster with Richard potentially showing some big play scores, but nowhere near the predictability or volume of carries necessary to make him startable.

Further injury may change this, but not sure where you could confidently start Richard with all three backs (Murray, Washington, Richard) and the FB (Olawale) vying for carries.

 
Nope you can't start him now.  He's a cheap stash for if Murray gets dinged again and to see what happens next year.

I would not. Richard is clearly the #3 right now, and when Murray leaves after this season, they are going to bring in another back. And that back will have a better pedigree than Richard.
